The Roof Top Beer Garden

January 27 2019

Welcome! Please take up a comfortable perch under the umbrellas and palm trees, to blow the froth off a cold beverage or two. There's a pool/spa too for those who want to have a dip. Talk and share about **what ever really tickles your fancy, news, food, drinks, TV shows, movies, your highlights of the week, etc etc just like you would meeting friends/coworkers, meet ups, in a Beer Garden. **As a gentle reminder the Forum Posting guidelines: (Cut and pasted from the Forum help section, "Stay on Topic".) QUOTE: From now on, if we notice a considerable shift in discussions (ie - people going off topic), the Topic will either be shut down or the poster who takes the Topic off track (on purpose and with no regard for other people) may be banned from posting for a period of time that they feel is appropriate. If someone has taken a Topic off track deliberately and with malicious intent, please feel free to report that user. Playful banter and exchange is fine but as a matter of etiquette, please consider if that in itself is causing the topic to go off track. Keep it to a minimum! Thanks for the sensible advice you offer without forcing it on me Ms Foxy. I'm just back from counselling and on top of the world with some much needed confirmation that I can't possibly be responsible for everything that goes on in the world. Whew! Taking responsibility for myself is the way to go as it is for any adult who is capable of making their own choices. Look at me babbling, pity it isn't like a brook. 😂 Cheers dears, not too long to Chrissie now, who's ready for it? 🍑 😘

The problem insect for me was slaters, the little grey micro armadillos. Prepare the area before planting by putting chooks on it or using saucer beer traps or rolled up wet newspapers to trap the fuckers. I just use shit beer I wouldn't drink, like VB, Emu, XXXXX, whatever is the industrial swill in your area. And keep that going after you plant the seedlings, the iron based snail pellets work well and so does a chilli based spray.Keeping up the maintenance is the key, 10 minutes every morning is way better than a couple of hours on the weekend, also, going out at night with a torch is a good way to check out the nocturnal marauders and stay ahead of them.Happy Gardening.

Need more than a barrel of something alcoholic over car parking at shopping centers and the Parents with Prams bays of entitled mums having complete ownership over them. The anger is unbelievable! 😡 Am currently on days off. Thank God I'm working through the silly season. I'm blessed to be working in an office by myself, so I can hide away from the Christmas silliness. Ms Foxy 🎄

Am I a grinch? Christmas seems to literally send some people crazy. It seems more drama than what it’s worth. All the stuff, all the stress. I can’t muster enthusiasm . I’m going to the beach on Christmas Day #oldjaded

I'm good with kids being closer to the store rather then having to drag them through busy car parks and it makes sense for the carer to have a bit more room for the pram &even being able to bring the trolley into the bay rather then having to leave it or kiddy stuck in the traffic. I'm a big one for looking after kids having had an active one I had to keep a literal leash on. I know that drives some people crazy too but this little 'un liked to balance on the verges of busy roads etc if I didn't keep a sharp eye out. All that reminds me of the child we saw when we were out today who was walking on the side nearest the road. We always walked ours on the inside away from traffic. Anyway I feel like shouting from the roofs after I got good results from the lump in my breast today, no cancer and no removal needed! Geez it's been a stressful month but nearly everything is back on track now. It can seem so overwhelming when I'm in a bad place and all these little things are going on around me that I have no control over but I took it easy and made it through. Peachy, already supped a teeny tiny tipple or two to celebrate

Why label as a Grinch is my thought. Well, just as long as you don't go around stealing any pressies! Enjoy the day as you will, some families are way too toxic to want to spend time with. We only spend time with our kids and family, and fuck the rest of the world. I count my blessings when I remember that year I spent totally alone with the world silent around me as everything used to stop for the day back in the early 80s. It was a quieter time. Peachy

This poem was an answer on Jeopardy yesterday, I thought I'd share. Beautiful and poignant. Merry Christmas, everyone. Mia x Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. Max Ehrmann © 1927

There have been 16 deaths this year so far due to family violence (8 women, 3 men, 5 children) and we haven’t heard an outcry about most of them. The Baxter case got most of the publicity because the sick fuck lit the whole family on fire in public. I’d like to know though, exactly what are people trying to achieve by comparing men to women? Does it matter who committed the violence or why? It should NEVER happen, we’re all capable of walking away before things get to that point so things like better education and practices in self control for example could be beneficial but the only thing you’ll achieve my comparing men to women is more division and animosity. Ms Phoenix.

  • RHP

    RHP User

Why? For me, it's because of the convos I've had in the forum where I've been slammed because according to some who think they know all... Men don't need special attention when I've brought it up. Have a man kill a woman though and we start counting... Then someone like me posts, and the man who is dead now gets chaff instead of any realistic answer. I don't blame victims either because we don't know they got where they are... But however you look at it, this guy left his missus... AND SHE KILLED HOM FOR IT. It barely hit the news but women are dying and we're counting them... Time domestic abuse was recognised as being across the board.

  • RHP

    RHP User

There is a truckload of issues to discuss on domestic abuse especially about men, on the victim and perpetrator side but any discussion of men other than persecution and damnation is just not tolerated.I'll not say anymore because I fear it will escalate rapidly into a shit fight rather than a considered discussion.Of course if you (or anyone) want to message me and discuss this off the forum i'm open to it.

Let's all please remember there are special groups of people in our community who do not have the ability to shop on a regular basis, and when they do, they really need the essentials, such as toilet paper, tissues and basic pain relief to be readily available. In the past few days we've seen images of empty shelves across the nation, yet our most vulnerable community members - pensioners, residents in retirement homes and people with disabilities, are turning up to their local shops on their weekly shopping trip, only to face bare shelves and head home empty handed. Our aging parents, our grandparents, our elderly neighbours and the vulnerable, struggle to duck to the shops when they run out of items. Travelling from suburb to suburb looking for essentials is out of the question along with online shopping. By all means, be prepared and stock up on two weeks worth of essentials, but please ask, do you really three or six months worth of products? We will all get through this with a sensible and caring attitude. Be kind to one another. #ZeroHunger #BeKind #NoPanicBuying
