The Roof Top Beer Garden

January 27 2019

Welcome! Please take up a comfortable perch under the umbrellas and palm trees, to blow the froth off a cold beverage or two. There's a pool/spa too for those who want to have a dip. Talk and share about **what ever really tickles your fancy, news, food, drinks, TV shows, movies, your highlights of the week, etc etc just like you would meeting friends/coworkers, meet ups, in a Beer Garden. **As a gentle reminder the Forum Posting guidelines: (Cut and pasted from the Forum help section, "Stay on Topic".) QUOTE: From now on, if we notice a considerable shift in discussions (ie - people going off topic), the Topic will either be shut down or the poster who takes the Topic off track (on purpose and with no regard for other people) may be banned from posting for a period of time that they feel is appropriate. If someone has taken a Topic off track deliberately and with malicious intent, please feel free to report that user. Playful banter and exchange is fine but as a matter of etiquette, please consider if that in itself is causing the topic to go off track. Keep it to a minimum! Take a seat, place your order, wind down, relax and enjoy. 👍

At some point, I saw a thread that was along the lines of "Silly thread ideas", something like that. Anyway, I can't find it and it's no great matter or consequence. However, I was going to mention in "The Coffee Shop" but didn't, so up here in the new establishment is as good a place as any, the reasoning, like anyone cares, lol, as to why I place the three dots, an Ellipsis, within the subject line. Usually, without further reference. .. In mid 2016, I had an idea to start a thread that was, in essence, a conversation. Now, of course, things like IP kind of muck up the order in many flow on or conversational thread topics. And we certainly haven't ever had IP, nor are we likely too, that's fine. However, I believed it would work with reference back to specific posts, and without a long line of quoted comments, that can be confusing. .. I was going to use the thread to discuss issues interests and thoughts I had and then hope that might spark discussion, rather than a myriad of different threads. Frequently , I have found myself posting comments that refer back to past comments or are in some way linked to my or our past comments. Anyway, I decided not to do it. Although, my wonderful wife thought it a great idea. .. Instead, back then, in mid 2016, I began simply using the three dots as a indicator of omission of subject reference, a connection to a previous post, (so as to remind or hold a thought) and reference of vague continuation of subject, I or we posted, that might contain omissions of thought and conversation, as we often discuss my thoughts prior to posting, Always discuss them when posting together and sometimes, if my wife has fallen asleep, discussed after I have posted something I have written. .. Anyway, of no consequence. Just been thinking of tying up loose ends for a while. I realise many find my comments quite long, et cetera, that's fine, they don't have to read them. Not sure if any have been longer than some by PP. (PurePeony), ontology, or a couple with quotes included by Peachy., they are just what pops into my head on a subject, frequently just as I'm typing, although I might have thought about or discussed broader ideas, with the delightful Mrs. urn. ... Mr. urn. .

Thank you Troy for your service. :) I can totally understand Troys decision to go overseas. I remember when my dad was going through Chemo (reacted to all 6 different ones), radiation and medication, he stated to Doctors "I just want to shot myself to end this pain and sickness, not just to myself but to my loved ones" (his words). His statement was so frowned up by the doctors that a note had been added to his file along with a letter stating his statement to his GP. He was a very proud emotionally stable man before diagnois. For my dad to say something like that, was absolutely mind-blowing and heart-wrenching because he had no control over what he wanted to do. Ms Foxy

I've survived 3 types so far, though some might wish it had been different because I'm a Dickhead, bizarre lyrics those. I'm blessed they were all caught early but last year's scared the shit out of me. 2 types with the rare lump bringing attention to the lump/s in the other breast I hadn't even noticed, both benign and still healing from the surgery. Now I have a life sentence of yearly mammograms with contrast to keep an eye on my lumpy left breast lol. That can join the 5 yearly colonoscopies to check for polyps. Thank God for how far medicine has come in my time on Earth. A shout out for the Breast Clinic in Perth, the people there are the bomb! Don't waste time going anywhere else. And don't wait to get tested, early treatment makes all the difference. That includes you men. Cheers, Peachy, downing a stiff shot

I'm told about a religious woman doctor who was married to another equally religious doctor, both were staunchly anti VE. The hubby got a terminal illness and the wife who was not only anti VE but was campaigning against it did a complete change of tune because of the nature of hubby's death. As my cousin said "it's the god botherers" who make the most noise, change is inevitable but it will be a bloody battle. You only have to look at the Popes opening speech at the child abuse conference at the Vatican to see how entrenched they are.Sadly not everyone has the means to go to Switzerland. There's also going to be opposition from the aged "care" industry who won't let go of their meal ticket until it's clipped to confetti. There can only be one death for every birth so the false argument about there being more death is full of it, hell if you did that to your pets the RSPCA would prosecute you. There will not be more deaths but there will less suffering, a lot less.My Mother lived, and died on her own terms, having her great nephew in the ED was a help but at the end she refused antibiotics and was given excellent palliative care without any grief from the God botherers. She also had a letter publish in the newspaper about VE and it was the letter of the day.Ultimately the will of the people will prevail, maybe not in my lifetime but the force is unstoppable. The baby boomers will push the envelope a bit further soon enough, interesting times indeed.

Things are generally back to normal here but there are still parts of town where businesses are closed, and of course people whose houses were badly damaged are going through a tough time. Insurance coverage complexities are a huge issue (I read an article the other day about the likelihood that the Townsville area will end up being uninsurable due to the greatly increased risk of floods in the future). The river is still very deep and dangerous in some areas, as we tragically saw with the drowning of two little boys a couple of days ago We had a few days of heatwave after the flood and it was pretty bloody awful. It's been much better the last few days, and not as humid, so good to not be drenched in sweat again a minute after you get out of the shower.
