Venting

January 28 2015

I have read a few posts and noted that some people occasionally like to vent (fair enough and probably good for the constitution). My vents are that the last 4wks I have had to work 10-12 hrs days, due to the industry I work in and the weather, also because of the weather, the grass is growing way to fast and I therefore need to mow the damn lawns more often than I have time What are your "Vents", if any, or are you happy with everything in life. (just fun general vents and complaints about life in general, not serious), Could be Politics, sex, partners, weather, work, kids, parents, friends (or lack of), the cost of beer, wine, or salami !!!! anything.

started out well but the last third or so was a bit of a let down. To me it did succeed in creating a creepy / ominous atmosphere though...plus I liked the score and the cinematography which were very obviously inspired by Halloween / John Carpenter's movies. I've seen scarier since. The Banshee Chapter kept me up for a few hours the night I watched it.

Luck Dragon, I love the horror genre and appreciate most types of horror except the horror-comedy ones. I loved Insidious 1, 2, and 3 and It Follows. The latest horror I've watched left a huge impression - Crimson Peak. I have decided I am a definite fan of Guillermo del Toro. So, hmm... since The Conjuring has sorta the same style as Insidious, I'm guessing that perhaps you didn't enjoy it as much too? I watched The Banshee Chapter and found it staid. LOL! What about Babbadook, a made-in Australia production? That was predictable-decent. Or, The Possession, where the famous Director, Sam Raimi, had a hand in? That is based on a true story and it spooked and enthralled me. Another movie that's based on a true story, The Atticus Institute, was pretty good. It wasn't all that scary per se, but the fact that it was based on real incidents was spooky!

Quoting 'PurePeony' So, hmm... since The Conjuring has sorta the same style as Insidious, I'm guessing that perhaps you didn't enjoy it as much too? The Conjuring didn't do much for me. It's funny how one person's scary is another person's yawn, but that's just more evidence of how different we all are. I do find that in general these days the 'mainstream' Hollywood horror productions don't appeal to me. Sinister wasn't too bad though, and I liked that it didn't go with a happy ending like the Hollywood movies usually do. I did enjoy The Babadook...didn't find it particularly scary but I liked the themes it explored and the production values. It was something different. Lake Mungo is another good Australian horror. Guillermo del Toro has done some great stuff. Pan's Labyrinth is amazing and I still consider the pale man from that one to be among the scariest characters in movie history.

I'm looking forward to seeing that one....apparently the director spent 4 years working on it before starting to make it, and he made sure that every aspect was as authentic as possible to that time period and location (even down to the type of fastenings used in the house).

I'm going to be on the lookout for that one then! I still think Asian horror can be really potent but then again, it's not everyone's cuppa tea. Thailand, South Korea and Hong Kong make great horror movies. Japan... yes but sometimes, they are so weird that the horror is lost in the general fucked-up'ness. LOL! Great to meet a fellow Horror fan!

I watched that one just the other day. Thought it was ok...I did like the all female cast aspect of it and that they didn't have them floundering around like helpless little girls like female characters so often do in horror movies. Haven't seen Inside but have read about it. There's another French one called Ils (Them) that's supposed to be very good but I'm having trouble finding a good version with subtitles. REC is a good Spanish horror, only if you don't mind the found footage format though, lots of shaky cam going on.

They say the film was not a copy of a book but it is plainly obvious it was an adaptation of a truly scary book of the same name by Jeff Long. Can't say that I enjoyed the film much but loved and highly recommend the book to horror readers. Really looking forward to seeing 'the witch' but from all reports have heard it is not terribly scary but a good story to follow, it certainly looks wonderful in presentation. Not a huge fan of horror as I find my mind is much scarier than anything I have seen, more of a fan of twisted dark thrillers and suspense.

Summer, I loved Descent 1 & 2! I hope they'll come up with a 3! I just watched the latest Paranormal Activity : Ghost something this evening. Entertaining, but a bit cliche. I think the scariest movies are those that CAN happen in our lives. For instance, Wolf Creek, Lemon Tree Passage, The Hills Have Eyes, I Spit On Your Grave, etc. These movies have made my toes feel chilly and drained of blood.

Wyrmwood was a really enjoyable watch I saw after one of LD's posts a while back. Totally different films but it kind of reminded me of Bad Taste just not a complete comedy like that.

Apparently they've copied some of the designs using public domain fabrics that BM have used, but in the past they've also ripped off some of their licensed clothing, which is illegal so I'm not sure if they still have any of that stuff up. There are a lot of BM rip offs around. The only place you can order the genuine stuff is from Black Milk themselves. A lot does get sold on ebay and also gumtree so they can be good for picking up stuff a bit cheaper, I've bought a fair bit from ebay.

The IT Crowd was a great comedy series and speaking of Chris O'Dowd, Moone Boy is a classic and O'Dowd plays an awesome imaginary friend

Not by a doctor, I don't think there's a need for that as there's no blistering or infection. I'm using one of the ointments specifically for burns to keep it moist, and will keep it bandaged until enough new skin grows over. I know a little bit about burn and scar management from uni so I think it should be ok. Will probably end up with a residual scar no matter what but that doesn't worry me.

Stupid Night Owl didn't have any Reese's peanut butter cups. Bloody travesty. Had to get a Bounty instead. Coconut and chocolate just does not hit that spot like peanut butter and chocolate does...

And I'm Not Talking To Them.... Little furry bastards pinched a huge bag of Thai glass noodles! And instead of crunching them up on the floorboards they crunched them into the huge chocolate brown shag rug in the family room.....took me an hour to pick it all out! That feels better! Rant over now 😊

I've been active and out and about too much this Summer! Despite using Sun Block, I have tanned several shades darker and my skin has aged noticeably despite my regular skin care regime! The sun is soooo bad for our skin!

Grrrr! Well to put a positive spin on it - at least it wasn't cooked spicy Thai noodles.....that could have been worse to clean up! And I know the feeling.....my toddler has a habit of doing something just as delightful every.single.day.

Quoting 'SO_SO' Try Whittakers Peanut Slab or their peanut butter chocolate. The peanut slabs are really good, not really what I was after though since I was craving the peanut butter & choc hit. I've never seen their peanut butter chocolate but it sounds awesome!
