in 3D. Liked it. Can understand that it needs linking to the original as it is really a "reboot" of the story. Going to see it again after I return home. Liked the Daniel Craig cameo. Not too impressed with Kylo Ren but hoping the character improves. Too many potentials to figure out Rey's biological history. Bit sad that Han Solo was killed off but glad Harrison Ford agreed to return for this. It wouldn't have been right without him. So I'm just going to watch and enjoy like I did yesterday .

Something I knew... Lukes face wasn't on any posters, so I assumed he wasn't going to be in the story much or at all, short of him being the one in the mask! Somewhat predictable storyline... the new "Death Star" was going be be defeated at the very last moment, after blowing up some planets to show how it works, again by simply flying in and shooting some important components after disabling or bypassing the shield. Actually, standard process for destroying most of anything big in Star Wars :) I liked the designs of the ship/s, reminiscent of 4/5/6, with minor changes, but thought they might have changed more in 30 years, but if it ain't broke etc. At least the Tie Fighters aren't as flimsy anymore. Or maybe that's because they are used here to transport the heroes. Didn't quite buy the story of a stormtrooper having an epiphany. But if they aren't clones, surely other stormtroopers can be "reasoned" with under the right circumstances? Like when they are ordered to shoot the unarmed villagers, clones obviously do this fine, as they obey any order without question. But if they are all individuals, many of them being apparently kidnapped and/or brainwashed, you would think they would have more trouble with them being "non-compliant"? (A term they used). At least they referred to the idea of maybe going back to clones if this army was going to be unreliable. If they are individuals, wouldn't they be more variable in height etc? Maybe I'm missing something here the diehards (ie more diehard than I am) can correct me on. Haha I also thought the AT-AT was out of proportion. Will have to see again or at least a still shot. But maybe there were different sizes made? That's what I thought perhaps, considering it would have been used for a desert campaign? Characters and character development - no real comments or issues to add. Unrelated, I have made a couple of the "MetalEarth" 3D steel models. I must order more online this time as they are cheaper elsewhere. I have even made an equivalent paper model of an AT-AT. I do need more things to do with my hands... errrrmmm....

Out here it is nonsense what I've seen them selling at. I liked that the vehicles stayed the same, consider how little change we have in our combat planes over time. They swapped from Mirages to the F/A-18 on the RAAF base I lived on when I was 4 or 5, those planes are still flying there over 30 years later with just a few upgrades but little visible from the outside.

...I think it's reasonable now that Kylo Ren made such an apparently poor showing against Rey and Finn. In retrospect I can see quite a bit of emphasis was paid to Chewies improved crossbow weapon, the one used to wound Ren, with Han blatantly talking it up. Blasters never get any attention in Star Wars, that's usually reserved for lightsabers - "not as clumsy or random as a blaster:an elegant weapon for a more civilised age" - as Obi Wan once said.We saw the damage that crossbow was doing to armoured stormtroopers, throwing them around...I think Ren was quite badly wounded, probably using the Force to hold himself together.

From Reductress.com Have a hot date Friday night, but all he’s interested in is seeing the new Star Wars movie? No problem! Even if you have no interest in this movie, you can still feel like a part of the evening and work this to your sexual advantage. Nothing gets a man more aroused than the latest installment of the greatest sci-fi film franchise of all time, so ride that Millennium Falcon all the way to bonertown by reaching over and giving him a little hand action during the most exciting parts. Here are the five most dick-touchy on-screen moments that are sure to awaken his force:1. The First Time Harrison Ford Appears On ScreenGay, straight, bi, wookie—whatever your preferences, Harrison Ford transcends them all. So give your guy’s semi at seeing the beautifully aging visage of a Hollywood heartthrob a little warp speed boost with a well-placed hand to the crotch. His body will be saying, “I love you” while your hand replies, “I know.”2. When An X-Wing Explodes Prep yourself for a grab anytime there’s a big chase scene with a bunch of X-wings, because when they shoot across the screen, those fighter jets won’t be the only thing heating up. Exploit his natural animal response to speed, violence, and shit blowing up by causing a little explosion of your own…in his pants.3. When Daisy Ridley Kicks the Shit Out of a Dude in Hand-to-Hand CombatNothing’s hotter than a girl who can fight, especially if that girl is also already insanely hot to begin with. But don’t get jealous of the beautiful and talented Daisy Ridley who plays the film’s heroine, Rey. Just channel all of your boyfriend’s sexual excitement at seeing her kick ass into that magic hand of yours and give him a 3D, surround-junk experience he won’t soon forget.4. The Crossguard Light Saber FightA light saber is already a deadly weapon, but this new film features ones with short, but just as dangerous, glowing lasers coming off the handle at 90-degree angles to the main blade. Sure, fans of the franchise have complained that this added feature would only serve to increase the likelihood that the owner would cut himself with the laser, and you know that any type of gun would be way more efficient at defeating enemies than a light saber, but all he’ll be thinking about when he sees two of these badass weapons go head to head is how horny he is. Push his below-the-belt laser beam button and watch it fully extend and prepare for combat.5. When John Boyega Removes His Stormtrooper HelmetHoly shit, stormtroopers can go rogue?! Unless he’s a total racist, your man will be jacked up by the newness and empowerment of Finn’s plotline, so take advantage of his excited state by adding some more unexpected stimulus to the mix. Is that an R2 unit in his pants, or is he just happy to see a positive and significant depiction of a person of color in the Star Wars universe? Either way, you win. Remember, Star Wars is about childhood wonder, epic battles of good versus evil, and a good, solid handjob when the lights go out, hopefully. Sure, he may say you’re just distracting him from “the most important cinematic event of the year”, but you’ll be sure to make this Star Wars a movie event to remember. Have fun, and may the force be with you!

I saw it again tonight with a friend. It was great to pick up on a bit more in the flashback scene when Rey touches the light sabre. What really annoyed me though? At the end of the rolling intro at the beginning, there were 4 periods. Four!!! Everyone knows that they should be in multiples of three!!! I seriously hope some editor's job was lost over that. There is so much I could get in to when ripping this film apart. I'll start with the good first though.Rey could be a promising lightsaber duelist, they have a chance to introduce a more elegant style of fighting - especially if shes using a double bladed staff. It will be a move away from brutal hacking seen in the past films. The Bad. Besides being a rehash of A New Hope - who wants another Death Star when you have Grand Admiral Thrawn? It went down the same path of the prequels. In A New Hope, the Monomyth (or Hero's Journey) was Luke's and Luke's alone. The prequel trilogy and TFA was a bit messy where you couldn't really grasp who's Hero's Journey this is. We see this again with Rey, Finn, Poe and even Kylo/Ben all with their own journeys. Disney disbanded all of the EU to make money on new stuff but their lazy writers heavily steal from the expanded universe. We have the Knights of Ren (Kylo being the son of Palpatine), the Solo twins - with one turning to the dark side (although no twins in this film). Chewbacca dies in the EU fulfilling his life debt to Han, now he has to live the remainder of his life as a failure and live in shame. A shitty Yoda ripoff from the Golden Girls. Who somehow came across Luke's lightsaber even though it was lost on a gas planet. Storm Troopers that are actually elite as shit (really that riot baton swinging scene, what the fuck was that? A lot of people dont understand the history of vibroswards and lightsaber resistant materials when they ask why the saber didnt cut through it). The troopers even better than Vader's 501st or the Emperor's Red Guard (although they do explain that these troopers are not clones and are actually taken from their families at a young age). Stopping the energy bolt was a great show of power, yet Kylo/Ben got his ass kicked in lamer ways. TFA would not have changed at all if they cut all of the Captain Phasma scenes. Super disappointing as I had high hopes for Gwendoline Christie. All of the useless masked non-speaking cameo roles that they wasted the film budget on. We had that amazing moment in Empire when Vader reveals that he is Luke's father, where in TFA we're instantly spammed with Ben/Kylo being a Solo, also having him remove his mask way too early. We hear about Emperor Palpatine throughout the original trilogy, yet we only really see him at the once as a shrouded hologram then again at the end of RotJ. Another thing they rushed in TFA. Too much too soon. Each part of the trilogy was meant to be one part in a 3 act story, they nailed it in the original trilogy, fucked it in the prequels and now again in the new trilogy. I have a background in Film Production and it grinds my gears noticing JJ Abrams' shitty freehand documentary style camera handling, the lack of sweeping wide shots (a lot of TFA felt cramped and crowded in shots compared to the original trilogy) and the generic Hollywood colour grading that has been pretty much copy/ paste industry standard for the past 7-10 years. All that and the weak ass plot gets 4/10 potatoes from me. I'm rambling now... and this post is totally unstructured due to how much rage this film makes me feel - questioning my own career choices as it makes me sad seeing the majority of people lapping this shit stain of a film up and asking for more :/

Not much of a Star Wars person myself, more Star Trek, Star Gate and so on, but truthfully, was so disappointed by this and wondering what they'll pull out for the rest.

...to be honest, I thought it was a conservative plot, but it was executed well. Visually, at least.I don't blame the bigwigs behind it for not wanting to take any chances after the disappointments of Episodes 1,2 and 3...if that was the case.It doesn't have the surprise revelation of, say, Star Trek: Out of Darkness, but that franchise didn't have anything that it desperately needed to prove, either.I'm pretty confident that Episode 8, the second last one in the series, will really roll out the thrills.Like The Empire Strikes Back did.

Quoting 'Koolgrey'It doesn't have the surprise revelation of, say, Star Trek: Out of Darkness, but that franchise didn't have anything that it desperately needed to prove, either. I thought the Star Trek reboot was pretty necessary for them to shake the boring tag that goes with Star Trek - Star Wars generally has a nerdy/geeky label but not so much of the 'boring' association IMO. I enjoyed the recent Star Trek movies - but previous ones just put me right off.

I don't think that I would say the Star Trek franchise had a "boring" association to it...that's subjective...but I do think the older movies and the various TV spinoffs had become dated. Much like the Batman franchise had needed a freshen up for a new generation. The early Trek movies were fresh and vibrant...Out of Darkness is a homage to The Wrath of Khan, after all. That secret was kept beautifully and several scenes deliberately mirror key scenes in the earlier film. I love both movies.
