We so enjoy reading the threads and probably have felt a bit intimidated about commenting as we are only guests and therefore could be fake-as (except we are not), but, as a writer (Mrs F2P) I am so happy that a lot of sensible, horny, sexy and genuine people are not being sucked into publishing hype with the fifty shades of shite. And for all the wonderful mums out there, "mummy porn"?? Oh, kill me now!! What a stereotype. Having said that, how much better could we all do?? A collaborative effort here on RHP for one hour would give a much better plot line, more realistic sex scenes and a more satisfying conclusion ... Sad state of the business if everyone modelled their fantasies on a cardboard cut-out :)

I was recently at a school open day where my female colleagues were all talking about Fifty Shades.Mostly they were amazed, astonished, intrigued etc but I doubt that many actually wanted to explore the world of bdsm. There have been similar books,The Story of O for instance and while it may have had a profound effect on a few,I don't think that hordes of women were breaking down the doors of their local dungeons. This book is mildly entertaining and it's content will be a revelation to some but IMHO the hype is just that, hype.x Hugs H

You have the kind of face, I like to paint. Have you read Song Bird, its on the tv now, the oral sex scene in that series is to die for. Goes to show red hair and freckles can work at times. Its set in world war One in France. I have to go buy the book the series was so good. ABC book shops

We are new to this and not knowing what to do really and still not knowing if it is for us yet, as we haven't tried any thing yet. But it is something that has had me at least wondering about what it is like. All I was waiting for was a partner that was willing to give it a try. plus I think not having the kids to worry about any more much.I think in this day and age people have learnt to be more open to do this sort of thing even though it has been going on for years behind closed doors. Plus the young ones to day seem to be a lot more out there and get in to it very early up in their sexual years. Good on ya's and half your luck. So in that case I feel that the younger ones might be spurring us older ones on in the fear of missing out maybe. But there again my view might be totally different after we go to a swingers night or try a private night.I love my partner very dearly so we will wait and see.

A couple of things sprang to mind when reading the original post. I was of the understanding that the 50 Shades relationship was monogamous. (I didn't get past the end of the first book). So I don't understand the connection between 50 Shades and a swinging website. Increase in rope sales yes, increase in sex toy sales yes, swinging - not so much. The other point is similar to the ones already brought up. The book is a pile of poo and an insult to people who do live that lifestyle. In my opinion the author did some market research and then produced something that she hoped would make her a million and she got lucky. All kudos for her being so smart and in the right place at the right time. However the knock on effect is that people have had their eyes opened to a whole raft of new ideas. It is now acceptable to talk about this thing in the school carpark (yes I have had those conversations), at work and waiting for the bus. That in itself has to be a good thing right? The other knock on is that genuine writers producing quality erotica will have an increase in exposure and revenue and possibly other good writers will come out of the woodwork. Perhaps publishers will take the erotica genre a bit more seriously as a money spinner and therefore support and encourage said authors. All those things have got to be positive. If you are looking for some great BDSM writings there are about a zillion blogs out there telling tales of real life stories some so exceptionally beautifully written that I feel like I am reading art. There are also many many erotic writers just putting it out there for free every day. You just have to look Mrs Jones

There's a whole world of sexually naive, repressed women out there, who read the book and have their minds opened? What if they find the courage to learn more, explore more and expect more satisfaction than they realised they could even have before? How can a book that destigmatises sex, kinks, and freedom be a bad thing. Yes, it might be average writing and a thin plot but the author has done something few (if any) before has done - normalised sexual kinks and eroticism. People on this site are probably already was past needing the enlightenment offered by the book, but people on this site are the vast minority of all the people in our cities. I'm all for books that put previously taboo topics into the mainstream vernacular - it breaks down the barriers for everyone. So what if the book's little better quality than your average pulp fiction piece.

We got half way through the book and have gave up reading any further. It is not that well written and the scenes are becoming repetitive. Pity as it looked promising at the start and a good sexy book can be great to read. We would find it a turn off if a RHP profile or username made reference to the book and much prefer to see originality.

As I said in my earlier post from a literary and originality point of view this book is a pile of poo. BUT it has brought sexually repressed and ignorant people out into the sunshine to play. You are right. Just because we are enlightened we shouldn't deny other people the opportunity to become so. Also we shouldn't deride people because they are not at the same stage in their journey as us. I have a friend who is my very best publiscist. When she hears vanilla people raving about 50 Shades she just points them in the direction of my blog saying if you like that then you will definitely like this. How could I be unhappy about that?
