Earlier this year my son went on a bus trip to Sydney to a theatre production for the HSC. He broke his ankle the week before and was on crutches. He left the theatre at 5.30pm and on the bustrip home, texted me to say he lost his wallet. I thought...OMG...he has EVERYTHING in it. Licence, student ID, keycards, EVERYTHING...I looked up the theatres telephone number and rang them at 6.30pm. I got the cleaner. He said he was just about to go and clean the theatre before the next show. He got my number, said he would ring me if he found it. Anyway, 5 minutes later, phone rang, he found it. OMG GREAT. He offered to send it back home to my son. I told him to take money out of it to pay for security mail. He said don't be silly. Ill make sure u get it. A few days passed and I never received the wallet so i rang the theatre back. He assured me he had sent it. ANyway....about 4 days later...one afternoon....there was a knock on my front door...I went to answer it...and it was a lady...holding a small package....She lived in the next suburb....and the stupid courier left my sons package in her letterbox sticking out.....without even getting a signature to say it had been received....She had opened the package and saw the contents and read the address on my sons drivers licence...and thought it best to drive and personally deliver it to the correct address. I cannot believe my son got his wallet back in its entirety...Esp losing it in Sydney around lots on other young people....I must say it restored my faith in human nature. I offered the lady $20 for being so honest but she refused to take it...She just said she had teenage kids too and would like to think someone would do the same thing for her.... Anyway...thats my good news story....

Hiya Tool, I have a story that will remind you that there are decent people out there....last year near xmas time, my dad had asked me to check his lotto ticket, Turns out he won $3000 but he wanted to cash it in himself, as he worked away i just kept it in my purse waiting for him to come home... Anyways so i carry on doing my normal thing, I had to drive into the city to get some papers signed went into the city, did what i had to do, went back to the car, and found i had a parking ticket so i put my purse - yes the purse with the $3000 wining lotto ticket in it, on the roof of my car, grabbed the ticket, being all pissed off jumped into the car took off.... Without the purse :( :( :( Got home, realised what i had done and i was kicking my own ass... Has about $150 cash in my purse... But it was the lotto ticket i wanted back.So I called the place where i was asking if anyone had handed my purse in, and all the businesses around the shop i was at, no luck ... left my details with all the shops. Recieved a call the nect morning, Someone that worked in that building had seen it on the road picked it up but as it was too late he just took it home, thinking he would just hand it in the next day. So i drive into the city, Pick up my purse, check it, The lotto ticket was still there as well as all the cash in my purse. PHEWWWWWWWWWW I was soooo relieved. So i pulled out all the cash in my purse, $150, put it in an envelope and gave it to the lady at reception, asking her to give this to the guy who handed in my purse. And i just wrote " "merry Christmas" on the envelope. So there are still a few genuine, honest people out there "Merry Christmas" Tiges xxx

I had the embarrasing misfortune to be at a checkout recently and was just $2.30 short of the total..... As i was about to deduct one of the items from my list the lady standing behind me offered to pay the difference..... I of course said that was not necessary but she insisted saying that she understood how these things sometimes happen It really did restore my faith in people.... I now return the favour whenever the chance arises.... xxxpandaxxx

Hi Tool,The best thing that happened to me lately is that I woke up every morning! I'm not going to elaborate on that but believe you me that it is really something to be greatful for.Nice things that have happened to me of late:I see a stranger in the shopping centre, our eyes meet.....the stranger returns my smile! How fantastic when in this day and age seems like most ppl are afraid to return a smile. Do a test next time you are out and about, just wear a smile on your face and observe the ppls reactions. Its hillarious.A while ago I went into the city by train for the first time in years. After doing what I had to do, I boarded the train back home. I got off at the local station and on reaching my car I couldn't find my keys! On the keyring I had car keys, house keys and work keys. I wasn't sure if I had lost them on the trip too or from the city. I phoned my kids to fetch me. Once I got home I phoned the lost properties office and the guy took down some details. He told me to hang on a minute and when he came back asked me to describe the largest keys on my key holder. I told him that there were 2 large brass keys and described my identifying marks that I put on them as they are for the two locks on the front door at work. He told me that while talking to me he saw someone hand in a bunch of keys to his co-worker and that the keyring was like the one I described! The person who found it boarded the train when it was on its journey back to the city and decided to hand them in. My kids took me back to the local station where I caught a train into the city and I collected my lost keys. I asked the guy about their work and success rate and he assured me that people hand in heaps more stuff than what gets reported as lost. He also said that it is amazing that lots of very valuable items, wallets, mobile phones etc get handed in all the time. BTW I asked him to thank the good samarithan which he did. So that was my last experience with getting something back.I find that if I'm positive and happy then I see lots of positive and happy people, yet whenever I'm down ( doesn't happen often tho) then I seem to see or meet people who are down, but heck that one shiny diamant that comes along glitters like a star!Have a happy day, smile and (most) the world will smile with you!Take careWoodyguyperthXX

Heyya Tool!Im far from perfect but as I do travel regularly to the City on public transport, I see plenty of behaviour that makes me wonder what our next generation will be like and I was brought up with courtesy to the elderly and pregnant for instance. On a recent bus trip into the city, it was pretty much standing room only. Towards the middle were a group of younger Asian (im not being discriminatory whatsoever - some of my best friends are asian) teens, hats low and crooked, rockstar hair, loud and bling flashing everywhere. Not to mention a portable MP3 player that had external speakers :) Ok so we had a few stops to go... and on jumped this little old lady. She shuffled passed me as I was standing, and I saw other more abled bodies turn their head pretending they hadnt seen her. Here we go i thought. Another elderly person forced to stand. All of a sudden the music stops, and the group of teens who seemed like the most unlikely candidates, offered their seats to her!!!! The look on the little lady's face was priceless :) It made me smile on the inside. It gets better, as they were sitting in her vicinity, they respected her privacy and kept chat to a minimun as well as keeping the music offAs they walked off the bus at Wynyard I patted the shoulder of the person who gave up his seat and he turned and smiled. He knew what I was on about. That morning I had concluded that not all chivalry and courtesy was dead, well not just yet ;)

I had lost my phone a few weeks ago, and a perosn i knew went to great lengths to get it back for me! We really werent even that good of friends. But he did it anyway! :)Pandateddy - I just love it when people will do something simple like give you an extra 50c for a train ticket! What a great society we would have if everyone helped out someone they saw in need on a regular basis! Thanks heaps for sharing :)

I saw this yesterday at Hurstville Railway Station. I had been to the shops hanging out in the vegetable aisle flirting with the housewives and was just sitting down having some lunch with a new friend...... The a guy walking along was scoffing down a hot meat pie with sauce...... and a Chinese shopkeeper obviously from the best bakery on the planet chased this dude for 200m just to hand him his change. Really the world is full of beautiful people when you look for it. Hugs Gazza

Ok....this story starts when I was 15 and living in Tassie. From out of nowhere, a sailors' hat turns up at our house. It was meant for my little brother, but me, being into hats...kept it.Over the years, all my other hats disappeared...but strangely...this hat was always around.Maybe it was because my Chrissy doll was always wearing it...and I'll never get rid of her.Anyway...I digress.Jump ahead about 15 years. My stepmothers' father had been in the Navy...so he restored the cap to its original condition. That's when we noticed a name and a number inside.So...praise Jesus for google....i went about tracking this person down.It took me about 4 months...but i eventually came across an ex-sevicemans site...and there was a note from the year previous saying that this man was very sick and that his old shipmates should call the number to perhaps say goodbye. To my suprise...it was a Gold Coast number. So, the next morning...very nervously....I rang the number.I had no idea whether or not this person was even still alive!!A woman answered. I said...is this the home of sailor itchins, with registration number ????.She said yes, hang on, i'll get him for you. Boy! was I relieved! He came to the phone...and i explained who i was...and said...I have your hat.Next thing...clunk...he dropped the phone. His wife picked it up and said he was crying and couldnt talk.See...this man had a war room...containing everything he ever had during his service....and the only thing missing was his sailors hat. The navy only issues one...and if you lose it...you can buy a plain one...but thats all.It turned out that the wife was the sister of my neighbour in Tassie. Her cousin had borrowed the hat for a fancy dress (without asking I might add) and had gotten pissed and lost it.My brother was little at the time and someone thought it would be a fun dress up thing for him.Thats how it came into my family. So, 20 years after it was lost...that man's hat returned home to him.I felt and still feel privileged to have played a part in its safekeeping and return.Just my story....BJxxx

Just over a month ago I took my then 10 yo to see a rheumatology specialist at the childrens hospital...She has a condition called hyper mobility syndrome where all her joints in her body are double jointed or they dislocate. Anyway, she needed to be seen by a podiatrist to get orthotics for her feet to help the joints in her ankles, knees and hips.....turns out the cost for this will be around $530.00. Now being a single parent who is currently not working I was stressing quite a bit as to how I was going to come up with this money to pay for it especially being so close to Christmas and other bills to pay as well. I mentioned it to a friend of mine on the weekend and that person rang me yesterday morning and said they were chatting to someone who I dont know, about my daughter, and this person wants to pay for my daughters orthotics and on top of that.....several years ago I gave away all that we owned to needy people and went back to new zealand to help my sister whose husband is terminally ill and whose son became tetraplegic in a hit and run accident....when we came back to brissy my daughter and I had to start afresh with buying things...but then....I damaged my hip and was house bound for two years....I have since had my surgery and have moved house with my daughter....and this woman...this complete stranger to me...is also giving me all the brand new furniture that she has stored away. The kindness and generosity of this woman has totally amazed me...knowing that in todays world there are still some truely remarkable people giving a beautiful gift to others. almondeyes xx

I wrote out a small novel, posted - only to find it didnt display??? Heres goes to second time round (crosses fingers) I frequently travel on public transport and buses in particular to get into the city for work. I am not perfect by any means but I have been brought up with decent morals and values and give up seats to elderly and pregnant when I can. Im a big believer in Karma Anyways, plenty is seen on public transport and a lot can be told about society these days. Recently, i jumped on a bus that was standing room only. Halfway down there was a group of young teen's of chin ese decent (nothing against them whatsoever, a lot of my good friends are from that origin). These teen's had their hats crooked and low, bling aplenty, talking loudly, rockstar hair and an MP3 player with external speakers - yes... playing ont he bus ;) The next stop on jumps this little old lady, and as she shuffled past me people whom wherent as invalid as her ducked their heads and pretended to look busy. When all of a sudden the music stops, the bus goes silent and the group of teens offered the lady a seat!! Yep. Out of everyone seated, the candidates that seem most unlikely to help gave up their social banter for her. Not only that, they turned the music off and remained pretty much silent for the whole trip. Respect \m/ As they left I gave the guy a pat on the shoulder and he turned and smiled, no words were exchanged but we both knew a good deed was done. Two things I learnt that morning; 1) You really cant judge people just on looks and appearance and most importantly 2) There is hope!!! Chivalry and courtesy may not be dead... well not just yet!!

We're "lucky" enough to experience people on their worst behaviour almost daily and it sometimes gets to us and it takes a lot to put a smile on at the end of the day. On the good side it really makes the few special people we run into really stand out. It's probably a bad indictment on society but I get a buzz out of meeting genuinely open and considerate people. I'm sure more people actually have these attributes but we all seem to run around in our self absorbed worlds that we forget to show our fellow man a little common decency. Keep your eyes wide open Toolie and you'll find a few special people close by. If not we'll come visit you next year after our hols Lots of hugs for you from the Pups

and another time...I was walking into a shopping centre....and a woman was walking in in front of me.She would have been about my age...and a nicely rounded woman. She was wearing dark blue jeans....and her bum looked fantastic!!So I decided to tell her so!But she and I walked in different directions....so I thought...oh well...chance lost.Then...she turned...and started going in the same direction as me!She crossed almost right in front of me....so I seized the opportunity and said..."Um...excuse me.Please don't take this the wrong way...but...Geez your bum looks great in those jeans!"Well....her face lit up....then went a little red....and she thanked me.Then she continued on to her destination...with a little bit more of a bounce in her step!It made me feel so good to make her feel good...coz we women know....we always wanna know....does my bum look big in this?? hahahahaha!!Oh...and I tuck women's tags in too.Just my opinion...BJxxx

There is still life in this city yet. About 6 months ago, I locked my keys in the car, well boot to be exact, and of course had my phone and wallet and everything else inside the car. Thinking that I have a very long walk home, I started to stress that I had to leave everything in my car on show, and that it would be broken into. Out of the blue a guy comes up and asked if everything is ok, feeling a bit stupid I tell him what I have done, and he offers to get them out for me. Turns out he is a locksmith and just saw what has happened! He says to me that if he cannot get them out he will call the nrma for me, or quickly run me home while his trainee would watch the car..He manged to get them out in less than 30 seconds, and even after many thanks, offers to pay, or lunch and a beer, all he had to say was happy to help, and that he was just happy to help. I took few business cards off him, and always tell anyone looking for a locksmith to use him. There are still good people out there.. Few and far between but they are out there
