... have to eat the Assam Laksa (http://www.visitpenang.gov.my/portal3/where-to-eat/food-blogger-ck-lam/penang-assam-laksa.html) or (http://www.malaysia.com/penang-asam-laksa-food.html) - other than that I don't think there's much to do in Penang... try Kuala Lumpur instead ?

Penang is one of my favourite places in the world. You can do a tour of the island, go over to Butterworth, take the railway up the hill or just veg on the beach. there is lots of shopping in Georgetown during the day and the night markets after dark. Last time I was there (a few years ago) the quality of the goods was much better than Bali.

Wonderful place for a relaxing holiday, suggest staying at one of the resorts at Batu Ferrengi - we prefer the Golden Sands, plenty to do and see. Added benefit is Penang has some of the best food in asia, and very reasonably priced. Plenty of good shopping. Taxis are still fairly cheap - around A$60 for a five hour trip around the island, mini bus cost us A$120 for 6 hours for 6 people. Feel free to email any specific questions if you like.
