If I recall correctly, the most likely time is ten to fourteen days before the start of her period.  I know, you can't tell the future..  so you have to pay attention when her period starts each time so you can see how long her cycle is (they're not *all* 28 days...).  When you know the pattern you can start to predict with reasonable certainty.  This is not foolproof, however - it's possible for her to be fertile during any part of her cycle. There's an old joke about this: "What do they call people who use the rhythm method of birth control?  Parents."Best of luck :)CheersAllWork

A general rule of thumb is day 14. The first day being day one of a girls period. Cycles in each women can vary quite a bit. If pregnancy is a huge concern for you then leave ur condom on or find a better form of contracepton. At your age 18 is an early way to find out you were wrong.   Miss K

how about u make sure shes on contraception then you wouldnt have to worry so much.   But really a girl can fall pregeant at any time within the month.   anytime you have fertile mucus (which could be from day 10 - day 20 of your cycle, depending upon the individual) you can be highly fertile. This is the time in which a girl is most likely to fall pregnant.   They also say 14 days before the girls next period is the most fertile

I assume because you are 18 that this is a serious question.   Every month a woman ovulates and an egg is released from the ovaries into the fallopian tubes that connect to the womb. (don't check my spelling) For a period of a few days the egg is viable and can be fertilised by sperm leading to a pregnancy. Sperm can live for a few days in the fallopian tubes, so it is possible for you to have sex before ovulation and cause a pregnancy.   In simple terms having sex within a few days before or after the woman ovulates could cause a pregnancy, so roughly 6 days each month the chance of conceiving is possible.   I know this is a rough guide only, you should speak to a doctor to find out how to estimate when ovulation is going to occur and take precautions against pregnancy for a few extra days each side of ovulation or use some form of contraceptive if you don't want to be a daddy.   I hope this helps to clear things up.   Doug

A woman can fall pregnant at any time, although the chances are much higher during her ovulation phase. Traditionally, you might hear that a woman cannot fall pregnant through unprotected sex during her period, but sperm are capable of living up to 3 days in the vagina, so there's even a small chance of her getting pregnant during her period. Then, of course, you might want to consider your sperm motility and her egg quality, and age, which are also factors in getting a woman pregnant :) .... which is a whole can of worms in its own right :) ...It's always better to be safe and use a condom if you're afraid of getting her pregnant, or you could explore other birth control alternatives.

Good on ya for making it your responsibility to find out what is going on! As far as I know there really is NO time during a woman's cycle that is completely safe from the possibility of pregnancy. I did google menstruation cycle and copied and pasted the part from Wikipedia that I thought had to do with your question below so you can read it for yourself. Ovulation is usually fairly close to 14 days after the 1st day of a woman's period but as you can read below there are a variety of factors that can influence that. In my case I wouldn't like to take the chance of not using condoms AND would definitely prefer another form of contraception as well. Fertile window The most fertile period (the time with the highest likelihood of pregnancy resulting from sexual intercourse) covers the time from some 5 days before until 1–2 days after ovulation. In an average 28 day cycle with a 14-day luteal phase, this corresponds to the second and the beginning of the third week. However, few cycles are exactly average. A variety of methods have been developed to help individual women estimate the relatively fertile and the relatively infertile days in the cycle: these systems are called fertility awareness. Fertility awareness methods that rely on cycle length records alone are called calendar-based methods. Methods that require observation of one or more of the three primary fertility signs (basal body temperature, cervical mucus, and cervical position) are known as symptoms-based methods. Urine test kits are available that detect the LH surge that occurs 24 to 36 hours before ovulation; these are known as ovulation predictor kits (OPKs). Computerized devices that interpret basal body temperatures, urinary test results, or changes in saliva are called fertility monitors.CheersMrsP

mrsf here :) Here's some info for you, I fell pregnant 3 times (planned) and did the whole ovulating cycle planning. There are two times during your menstrual cycle when it is possible to fall pregnant - During mid cycle ovulation or when fertile mucus is present - HIGH RISK During you natal lunar phase fertile time - LOWER RISK but still possible. Ovulation is when one or more eggs are released from one of your ovaries. This is the most fertile time of your menstrual cycle. Each month, 15 to 20 eggs mature inside the ovaries. The ripest egg is released into the pelvic cavity and swept into the fallopian tube. Which ovary releases the egg is fairly random. Ovulation does not necessarily switch between ovaries each cycle. To become pregnant naturally, an egg and a sperm have to meet in the fallopian tube before the egg dies. An egg survives no more than 24 hours after ovulation; unless, of course, it is fertilised by a sperm. However, sperm can survive for much longer within the genital tract (your vagina, uterus or fallopian tubes). It has been found that sperm can survive inside you for up to seven days. However, sperm with the best motility (moving swiftly, usually in a straight line) are produced when a man ejaculates every three to four days on average. This means that you don't have to time sex to the exact moment of ovulation to get pregnant. It is probably more realistic to think of a "fertile window" of about four to five days when live, healthy sperm could meet a freshly ovulated egg.Ovulation usually takes place 12–16 days before the start of your next period. For a woman with a 28-day menstrual cycle (the first day of menstruation being day one), ovulation takes place sometime around day 13 to 15. The length of a normal menstrual cycle, however, varies between 23 days and 35 days so ovulation could occur earlier or later in your cycle.BUT IF YOU DON'T WANT HER TO FALL PREGNANT AT ALL........ ALWAYS WEAR A CONDOM!!!!!

ok a woman can fall pregnant when she is ovulating - usually a week before her period is the crucial time for falling pregnant.  Maybe you should be using condoms all the time just in case or get to go on the pill (alot easier)!   Hope that helps.

Hey. If couples are trying to fall pregant here's the rub... a human egg is receptive for only 24 hours. Women ovulate usually once but sometimes twice in a cycle... sometimes more if the cycle is irregular... and in those circumstances sometimes not at all.   To fall pregnant the human egg has to be inseminated by a sperm. Once ejaculated, sperm can last in a ladies body for up to about 3 days.   Therefore a woman has the greatest risk of pregnancy up to three days before ovulation (that's when an egg is released) and within 24 hours of ovulation.   If the egg is not inseminated in time, a woman will menstruate to flush out the stale egg/s.   The difficult thing about it all is to predict when ovuation will occur. It usually occurs somewhere around half way though her cycle... but women have individual cycles... around 28 days, but not always... and things can interfere with the cycle.. stress, a cold, rugged sex... lots of things... making her ovulate earlier or later. Sometimes she even ovulates twice... so guessing when it will happen is not a good idea.   And three children later.... that's why I had a vasectomy.

It pretty much depends on how long her cycle is (and I'm not talking pushbikes here) and when she is ovulating. My suggestion would be to 'google' it....works for me.

well, depends on her cycle....but if she's on an average cycle of around 28 days from start to start, then anywhere between day 11 to about day 18 is danger time as sperm can survive for a number of days in a woman's body.   If, however, she is irregular, then take the shortest cycle she's had in the last 6 months and subtract 14 days from that, and that's the day you should start being careful.   There are many ways of being able to tell when she's ovulating, so pick up a Natural Family Planning book and you'll learn how to tell what's safe and what's not.

Hey,Speaking from experience.. women's cycles are just not that predictable! Dont listen. In a perfect world a woman will have her period .. then 10 - 14 days (roughly) later she will ovulate .. this is when her egg is sitting there waiting for you to fertilise it.  For about a week you stand a good chance of getting her pregnant .. BUT ovulation can happen and dos happen at any time really during the month even straight after a girl's period .. so dont take the chance. Periods are just not that regular and ovulation is not precise. There isn't really any definite way to use the 'time of the month' method of contraception (called the Rhythm Method) - The Catholic church recommends it - simply because it ends up producing lots of little catholics.Condoms are a necessary evil - and they help prevent STD's.If you guys are monogamous (strange if you are on here though) .. suggest she gets a better form of contraception - or you guys stand a really good chance of producing little ones.

If the woman has a regular 4 week cycle...then it would be in the middle days that she would most likely get pregnant.But...in saying that...the only time you can be sure she wont is when she has her period.Have a look at the link for more information. And remember....google is your friend!http://www.gfmer.ch/Endo/Course2003/Menstrual_cycle/Menstrual_cycle_Bischof.htmJust my opinion....BJxxx

Anywhere from day 5 to about day 14-16 of a womans cycle (day one being the first day of the period) as a rough indication, but every woman is different.

goingdown2night ~ well, no you can't get her pregnant at any time. As I said, when you are in the situation of actually trying to fall pregnant you realise how difficult the timing can be. There has to be a viable egg to fertilise and they can only be fertilised within 24 hours of ovulation. If you know your partner really well and monitor temperatures etc... you can tell if she is ovulating... you can actually feel the difference as the vagina is more mucussy or something.. more thickly sticky at that time.... least that's how it feels to me... maybe your lover knows when she is ovulating. It's not impossible..... it is just impossible to predict if she will ovulate twice this cycle.... so that's a risk that your lover apparently accepts. Some women are very regular.. maybe she is.   And sex during mentruation is as safe as using a condom in my opinion... just messier. Not to worry, cause lots of women are hornier at that time anyway.   Gaz

Forget pregnancy you should be using a condom!! until you are both in a 100% monogamous relationship and have both been tested at least 2 times with clear results both times.
