battle scars

October 01 2014

Ok. For those who know me, they would know I am a sports nut. Tragic. I go boxing and kickboxing 3-4 times a week, between 1-2 hours per training session. Running done on non-training days. Sports has been a life saver for me in times of difficulty. I found it cathartic to my healing when my marriage broke up and any negatively gets expelled on the bags, the mats, the sparring with opponents in the ring or just generally hitting the machines. It gave me time to breath and think and refocus my energy when my thinking has hit a brick wwll. However it comes with some negatives. This morn as I got out of the shower and dried myself, I proceeded to moisturize my body and found so many black and blue marks all over my arms from last night's boxing. The looking for more marks, the back of my calves and some on my kegs hasbeen bbruised blue by blocking and receiving kicks fr kickboxing onMonday night. Wth! My legs looked like it was whacked by a tribe of oompaloompas. Yikes! This is not.the first time I walked into work bruised and battered. Once I had to endure a week of heavy facial make up in shades of blue and purple after a boxing bout. Lol. Nice shiners my kids kid me. Interesting excuses I had to make to my clients. Lol Normally I would not worry about this but the upcoming Melbourne meet and greet social this Sat made me realize that I may have to cover up more than expected so as not to look like I just managed to get a hall pass from the battered women's shelter. . So people, what comes into mind when you see people with bruising?. And have you sported a good shiner or two to work a function bor a date and have to explain yourself. I got mine downpat. Lol. Share your experiences. Keep it light and fun. X

I got headbutted by my 18 month grandnephew last year. Hurt like a bitch! Got a massive bruise on my browline, days later which went to the side of my eye. Had to use a load a concealer and foundation to cover it up when I dropped kids off to school, in case people started questioning :P And Lily, not that you're asking but I've heard that pineapple and pineapple juice helps with dissolving the bruising :) - Posted from rhpmobile

I copped a real beauty at work the other week, was not quick enough and got a fair whack in the face (felt numb) and didn't even realize I had a bleeding nose, till my boss said something. Got another beauty in the chin and cuts from a toenail across chin (yet again not quick enough with protective actions) and had to go to ER to get a tetanus shot. I've been a little slow lately at work....my mind must be on other things. HAHA! A good thing if a lover or someone sees bruises etc I just say...got it at work. Foxy

I am hoping the bruising is as you say !. Perhaps you should invest in a protective head gear when sparring, so you should not have too many issues with bruising on the face. I used to do Karate' and never had any problems ,(except one time a black belt guy broke my nose). Alternatively you could maybe stop sparring for the week before an important meeting. SG is concerned but can only suggest you invest in head protection gear :)

I have been broken and stitched from head to toe, not all at once but literally on my head and my toes and plenty of places in between. I love to hear that people are out there living their lives. I think back to all the times that I was off to the hospital again and it was some of the best times of my life.

I had black eyes through much of my 20's..... combination of rugby and martial arts training. Made turning up to work a bit difficult at times.(Remember those schemes from Fight Club?!) hahaha

Whilst I was training for my current job I got hit right in the eye socket with a squash ball that had been hit at full pelt by a colleague (during a game of squash, not because he didn't like me). Within half an hour my eye had almost completely shut and was bright purple along with half my cheek below it. Raised a few questions (and laughs) when I went in to work the next day.

These black eyes were.not given to you by your rugby teammates by the way? Lol. Ahhh. Martial arts. I had so many facial injuries like busted eyebrows or bruised cheebones k was once asked if everything was ok at home. Lol. I said that yes except I wasn't getting enough rough sex. That stopped the questions. Lol. Nowadays concealers or makeup cover ups are part ofmy routine when that hapoens after boxing. But cut lips while sipping orange njuice can be a bitch. Yeow.

of bruises from Krav Maga training but usually they're arms and legs. The worst I ever had was when I was walking home from uni (I studied in my late 30s) with my thumbs tucked under the straps of my backpack. I tripped and unable to catch my fall due to my hands being caught in my bag straps, landed on my face. I had a massive shiner, grazes on my chin, nose and brow and cuts on my elbows. I had to take my kids to the doctor for something a week later and I received some very concerned and intense questioning from the GP who must've assumed my then-husband was knocking me around.

The last one I had was about 6 mths ago when my sons elbow connected with my eye when we were moving a wardrobe... Apart from that it was almost a weekly ritual when I was playing footy... par for the course and expected , so there were no need for excuses.. The worst I got was when I copped a Liverpool kiss.. ( head but ) Blackened both eyes and cheeks... Took me 2 years to get square and when I did, he asked me why I did it ' ? Some ppl, fair dinkum ... But Lily , remind me to bring some protection when we get together.. Will I need headgear and a mouth guard ? or will you be gentle..?

Do have headgear mouthguard for boxing. For karate, wear the additional breastplate.. Only wear all these guards for sparring in the ring. But gloves has a way of getting thru when you let your guard down due to exhaustion. A learning each time I get hit. The kick and swipes on tge legs can be brutal and in muay Thai, thank goodness for shinpads. Best protection is to move out of.the way and that 'running away' requires a lot of energy. Lol. - Posted from rhpmobile
