that a like button will give even more justification for disconnection between people... - Posted from rhpmobile

I think it's bad enough when people are able to quietly Like a vicious post that slams another forumite. I believe that if you have something negative to add you should come right out and say it to someone's face, then take responsibility for it. More passive-aggressiveness on the fora is the last thing we need in my opinion.

Many people already use the thumbs down emoticon when responding to posts or the like button on negative posts..We don't need more negativity here IMO xxFreya

Why the need to agree or disagree? Just let ppl have a view...like or not like, who cares. Isnt a forum supposed to be about getting other ppls perspective? - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'PeachyPearL' .We already have one. At least that one is saying "Hey, I don't like that", whereas an Unlike button is a another way to tag along others' negativity without owning it.

As mentioned, there are already plenty people who use the like button now to show their agreement/approval of negative posts. And I'll put my hand up to being one of those people. Why do I do it? Because the post I've liked expresses my thoughts and I feel I would just be repeating what's already been said. Not making an excuse, just explaining. And right now I feel more than a bit ashamed of myself, having had it pointed out. Definitely lots of room for improvement :)

Very simply, I do have some fondness for a like button but not the way it's set up on RHP. It notifies the wrong people! Peachy

I don't actually read every single post in a forum topic, unless it is of interest to me. I usually get in there, say what I have to say and get out....There are also some posters that I don't particularly enjoy reading what they have to say, so I don't read it, some posters bat on about the same shit so I don't read those posts either, so I don't think there's a real need for it. If I read something I really like, I like it, the rest I skim over or I probably haven't read it or I have no interest in what the poster has to say...💋

In all honesty 97% of people are great value in here. But there are always the flippin drop kicks that want to spoil a good thing.....talk about value. Use the value...if a poster gets too many negatives in a certain period the get spat on by all of us...oooops no I mean their profile cums up orange in the thread...fucken vilify the fuckers....😎😎😎😃😃😃😱😱😱😱😂😂😂😂😂😂

Quoting 'Meander' Quoting 'PeachyPearL' .We already have one. At least that one is saying "Hey, I don't like that", whereas an Unlike button is a another way to tag along others' negativity without owning it. But if it worked the same way as the "like" button, it'd record the names of the people who push it - so it wouldn't be anonymous. I see the "like" as just a more efficient way of writing out the same post as the one you liked - and benefit to people reading the thread is you don't get 15 pages of "me too" (and you don't get the awkward posts that show up days later because someone doesn't have immediate posting rights and have been slow to be clear the moderation queues)

The fora are not democratic, they are ruled by an oligarchy who have the say as to whether posts make it, a forum survives etc....Members pay taxes but they can still be sent to jail,ie loose their posting privileges..so no it's not a democracy.😢xxFreya

Quoting 'Meander' I think it's bad enough when people are able to quietly Like a vicious post that slams another forumite. I'm not talking about liking posts that disagree with or are critical of others' comments, more about liking those that are mean, belittling and insulting, especially when aimed at the person behind the comment. Hope that's clearer.

I see the Like button as a "Me too" response and I think it's a good tool in itself. I was commenting on its negative use, when Liking bitchy posts. As for hitting a simple button, I think it's too easy to follow the herd. Having to think what you're saying when disagreeing or making a negative comment takes more thought. Also, you can quietly undo a Like (or Unlike) and appear innocent after the damage is done to someone, whereas a comment is out there forever if the mods let it be. My 2cts.

Honestly, it will defer honest personal opinions. Which are great to hear, imo.

(on iPad so can't quote) . reading back over my post it wasn't clear that I was meaning dislike as well as like. I don't really get involved in the snarky threads, but it doesn't seem like typing out "me too" and some snarky comments is really causing that much barrier to entering into the pile on of whoever has rubbed someone up the wrong way.

..... I have banned myself from the smilies ... so I do not have the benefit of that thumbs down ... ... but hypothetical ..... I ask the question 'black .... or white' and I get 73 thumbs up for black ... and 3 for white .... is this/can this not more powerful than 76 convoluted responses ..... 'Ah yes .. but don't leave out dark grey' (3 page diatribe) ? ... the discussion is important ..... sometimes at the cost of loss of the potency of the idea. I take Mea point that .. liking a negative retort, is the same as a 'gong' button ( and tends to be what I'd when I feel stronly .. which is not very often ) ...... but could be seen as factionalisation Uly x
