like when the members of the new generation are finding ...like ..phrasing thoughts and stuff so like difficult , you know? And that is like ...if it is like longer than a text message then it is like why bother, you know? that kinda stuff is just I mean you know--like just "hard" to kinda deal with cos you like it is a generation gap kinda - you know? it is not they were stupid or less intelligent, like..none of that..it is just that ..like phrasing stuff and thinking about stuff you want to say or write is kinda.."old- school" or redundant..it is not kinda..necessary anymore cos everyone is like so tuned-in and stuff so they get it like perfectly it is just myself the oldie almost 40 who is like "I don't comprehend what you are trying to communicate" cos I am so old -school and stuff...so that just makes communication kinda difficult for me ...but I guess that is just my fault..like ..I really should have embraced the old kinda chat programes in like 2008 and so more and I should be absolutely more open to social media and stuff to share more about myself cos that is like the the new norm so I just should go with the flow stop being uptight about proper articulation and use the vocabulary of the English language :)

My generation seem to insist that resources are limitless and theirs to plunder. Many of them helped themselves to free tertiary education and then shut the gate on the age of entitlement, greedy hypocritical bastards.

Quoting 'Meander' I'm part of generation X (1966-1976). The most annoying thing though? Will get back to you. Where did you get those years from Meander? Just asking because in every other categorisation I've seen, I'm a gen X (1978).

Got it from Social Marketing dot org, but Wikipedia says the University of Michigan states 1961 to 1981 and according to the same source the Harvard Center claims 1965 to 1984.

Ditto. Boomers are great at consumption not so great at sustainable consumption. Neither is my generation - but we like to talk about how bad your generation is at it and then proceed to max out our credit cards.

The way they've turned parenting into a competition of who can create the most entitled, 'I am the centre of the universe' child (and brag about it the most on social media in the process). Also, starting the trend of posting photos of their kids' bowel movements on social media. So.Fucking.Wrong.

Like the fact that they are the generation that started blaming the children's teachers and not their kids for their low grades. Also, children getting participation medals and every layer of the pass-the-parcel containing a gift. Oh and don't get me started on TV's/Iwhatevers/X-Boxes raising the kids. How will their kids learn to be responsible adults? There.

I think gen X is pretty much to blame for social media altogether.

Depending what you read I'm either a late boomer or an early X-er. No wonder I'm so confused . I think all my kids would be Gen Y but they are unstereotypical as they've been raised with my simple living ideas. They don't have credit cards, don't spend beyond their means, budget for what they need/want and work hard. All the things they support are researched. I can't really comment on Gen Y's, per se, as the friends my adult kids have are the same as they are.

I think it was Socrates or Plato who said something to the effect, "The children now love luxury, they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." So it seems the world has grappled with these issues since the 3rd century through to the 21st century. Funny, the wheel is still turning though. I'm kind of thinking perhaps that each generation generally thinks the generation before this one is some how totally indispensable, and just can't be done without. When it comes to issues like climate change, the sad reality is it's been derailed. Did it not start of as the ozone effect? Then it was global warming? Now it's climate change? It's a bit like the girl who cried wolf. Notwithstanding, that you have a political system totally bereft of honesty or integrity. Is it really little wonder that the public is cynical, jaded, and no longer inclined to believe our democratically elected representatives. A smart person (politician) would ditch the scare mongering, and re-name it, environmental responsibility or perhaps environmental housework. After all, I wipe my stove down each evening, sweep my floors, vacuum, mop and dust. I keep my own little earth tidy. So why do we consider that keeping the earth tidy and clean on a global scale to be any different. It's just doing our housework on a global scale, as a society. And Meander, I think that education is difficult. Society generally has ditched personal responsibility. Teachers generally are expected to be all things to all people. Whilst I agree with you that parents like to 'blame' the system for not teaching their children. At least two generations have never been taught correct grammar or the structure of the English, because of the teaching mantra, that children should just be allowed to 'feel' the language and work it out. Being taught about verbs, nouns, adjectives, and it's, its, their and there whilst boring is also extremely necessary. I think the education system in Australia has truly lost it's way. Unless you are lucky enough to be naturally smart, or have parents who truly care for you and make sure that you put in those extra yards with tutors etc., and you're stuck in the public education system, you're running an up hill battle to achieve. I had a taste of both systems. These days the world is hell bent on achieving mediocrity, and a level playing field. The real world of life isn't like that. There are winners. There are losers. We can't all be equal and have exactly the same as the person living up the street or in the next suburb to us. Achievement and winning are dirty words. That to me sums up the public education system generally. It's not about striving to give your absolute best, to achieve the highest result you can. As you rightly say. It's about giving every one a medal so they feel good about themselves, and every child a prize so they go away feeling equal. It's setting individuals up for a life time of disappointment. Unfortunately the world isn't always equal, fair or necessarily nice and kind.

Quoting 'Meander' I think gen X is pretty much to blame for social media altogether. Definitely. I did my fair share of over-sharing (heh) when I first joined facebook until I learned my lesson, now I use it much more sparingly and don't post much about myself at all. The kid stuff particularly annoys me though, because young kids don't know and aren't consenting to what their parents are posting about them. I had a (former) friend post a video of one of her son's autism related meltdowns, to 'show people what it was like'. I think that is utterly wrong and a breach of that child's right to privacy and autonomy. I follow STFU Parents and it is absolutely amazing what some parents will post. Totally blows my mind.

The Ozone effect was from the propellents used in aerosol cans, nothing to do with greenhouse. As for politicians, well we voted for them so hows the mirror looking ? How does it go ? "The people elect the government they deserve" So lets make better choices.

For me as an X it would be how much bullshit about how great the eighties were. On a larger scale the fact that every generation has been looking and asking for peace and equality and yet here we still stand

Failure to appreciate the sacrifice animal and plant life make to sustain our existence. The arrogance to CHOOSE to be ignorant about where your pretty supermarket packed meat comes from under the guise of squeamish fear, as if you have some kind of right NOT to know. And senseless food waste, the ultimate disrespect of a life once lived. Yeah that really boils my bubble.

The rise of Paris and the kardashian crowd. The rise of doing nothing making shit loads of cash. Although Bruce Jenner transgendering was lovely. I think the rise of reality tv shows and such like are a social scar on society. Utterly pointless! - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Wet_Paint' The Ozone effect was from the propellents used in aerosol cans, nothing to do with greenhouse. As for politicians, well we voted for them so hows the mirror looking ? How does it go ? "The people elect the government they deserve" So lets make better choices. I know that. You probably know that. Unfortunately, I think the public generally are cynical and and disbelieving. Almost ambivalent. And for a lot of the population that message hasn't gotten across. And yes, I agree we elect the government we deserve. Unfortunately the world has changed also. We live in a 24/7 news reel. Politicians on both sides lurch from crisis to crisis. Popularity Poll onto the next poll. Politics is a little like parenting children. You are expected to have a vision. Carry out the vision. You aren't elected to necessarily be popular. You are there to do a job. And leave something behind that will benefit society in years to come. I don't see a lot of that happening at any sector of the political wheel. I haven't seen it for many years. Bob Hawke got it in a nutshell with Annabelle Crabb in Kitchen Cabinet. "Just be yourself. Be real" I'd go one further. Have a level of honesty and integrity, and a real vision for the future.

What bugs me is middle aged men acting like old men. Pipe and slippers anyone ? I don't want a younger man. But one who still has some zest for life. Don't become boring, at any age 👞👞 🐢

Negatively it seems gen what ever strives for. Every human race has fucked up or been fucked up.. More sexual freedom I say. Lets face Gen BC coped quite well. Athough the mesiah did cop a stoning. Tho he was a very naughty boy. 😆😆 - Posted from rhpmobile
