Worst mother's day present

May 07 2016

So it is mother's day tomorrow and we do receive presents. Hopefully good presents that our kids or partners have put enough thought in. I do appreciate any present from my kids. Whatever they are because for me It.is the but thought that counts, corny as it seems. I have received shocking mothers day gifts before like an ashtray fr my boy when he was 7. 😁 I dry don't smoke but that's ok as it was a ceramic ashtray he made in his school pottery class. It.has hideous turdy brown little dish. I love it. The kids were to make pottery pieces for mothers day and reflect what they're mothers like doing. How he sat me as a smoker is just hilarious. Over a decade later, I still have it and he laughs every time he sees it and shakes his head like WTF? We laugh at that turdy monstrosity but deep down he knows that I keep it because I love him and his thoughtfulness. Anybody know of bad mother's day presents? Share. :-)

When I was in primary school, I made my mum the most hideous vase. It was a mouldy blue colour with a smiling face and fangs. My mum kept that vase for the rest of her life, proudly displayed on the chest freezer in the laundry. I can't really remember my kids giving me any bad presents. Much like my mum with the hideous vase I made her, I've cherished everything my kids have given me and proudly wore pasta necklaces and brooches.

But I, too, have kept every card/crafty bits/present my kids have made for me. One particular Mother's day does come to mind many years ago. They were too young to choose a present for me so, with the help of Grandpa, wrapped up a bunch of hand-picked chrysanthemums from his garden..... along with a nest of black ants and left them in front of my bedroom door the next morning! Imagine me holler and scream at my discovery lol The kids had a good laugh seeing their mum racing from the bedroom to the backyard with the bunch of flowers like she had ants in her pants 😂 Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow 💐 - Posted from rhpmobile

A bad Mother's Day present would be not seeing my kids, a distinct possibility lol I care not for material gifts, but I do appreciate the love that comes from gifts that younger children give their Mums. They are special. It didn't matter what my kids bought home from school to give me, I always kept those gifts, they came from the heart. My daughter is part Japanese lol well not really but may as well be, loves the country and the people, so do I, and has been to Japan a few times. She always brings me back a beautiful little gift, and the Japanese wrap so beautifully, always in nice printed paper, not unlike origami paper, and in a box. It's the love the gift is given with that matters. But now they're older, I just want to see them. They know I don't want gifts and don't buy them for me. I want their presence, not their presents

That is just precious re. Your hideous vase. Lol. I do get it how your mother feels about the vase you made. I feel the same about my boys' gifts. I still display them out.in the lounge or kitchen. It makes me feel closer to.them when they are away on their week with their dad. Finger paintings and my kids paintings I still keep n display in the toilet. Torture for guests when they do their business there. who gives a shit. Sorry for the pun. 😁

On Monday night instead of tomorrow as my eldest is working. My youngest said that the boys are taking me out to dinner in a fabulous Korean restaurant. Their treat as they are now both working. Awww. I am so in love with my beautiful young men.

Two years ago my son saw a pink flamingo necklace in the Swarovski shop window. He told one of my friends he was going to get it for me. I didnt get it however, when he realised afterwards it cost a few hundred dollars! Anything I get from him is treasured, no matter what it is. Like you guys. I have kept old paintings ( One of "Mum" in which I look like a huge head with Edward Scissorhands fingers attached to the sides )

I agree. Their presence is most appreciated in any time of the year, for both parents. The simple act of sharing a meal and light banter definitely makes for great memories, specially when they are away.

Quoting 'lilyorchid' I agree. Their presence is most appreciated in any time of the year, for both parents. The simple act of sharing a meal and light banter definitely makes for great memories, specially when they are away. Thanks Lily, I got to see my son today and it was amazing. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy. You know, and I know you know as a Mother, nothing else in life matters like they do. I'd give up everything in my life for them, unconditional. My son is a muso and gave me a live concert today, just random, in a public place, it was incredible and we spent probably about 4 hours together, had lunch and then music music and more music, followed by more music in the car. He knows how much I love it and he enjoyed it too, bit of passing interest from strangers. He's so talented and I'm so proud of him. So an amazing day, kids put everything into perspective. A Mother's love is a love like no other. Of course you know that and I bet you're an awesome Mum. I hope you had a great day and thanks for the thread

Always... I take my Mum to a place she enjoys , has memories attached and where they have great coffee and cake... on this occasion it was shopping for clothes (Chadstone shopping centre), coffee and a miniature Black Forrest cake. We spoke about my childhood memories of the place, her thoughts on the fashions of today... then later in the day to pop a cork on the obligatory bubbles. Parents deserve to be remembered, valued and treasured as they get older... the deserve a reward for all those thankless years as a thoughtless child and teen.

Quoting 'Qefenta1' Saturday with my daughter. She brought me three mature age native plants for our new garden a project both near and dear to both of us. There is something special about creating a garden together Q Awww. that sounds great. On my mother's last visit to my place, she brought some fantastic succullents for me and showed me how to propagate them and split them up. she also repotted some of my dying plants and went thru my garden to salvage some of my plants. they are all doing well and thriving. She has fantastic green thumb and as for me, well, putting a plant in my care is like a death sentence for the plant. but gardening is a truly joyful experience I have with her. She always says that at least when the plants live, they will constantly remind me of her and her love for me. She is turning 90 and very active, sharp as a tack. Very active in our family business and still lords over all the employees, pouring over legal documents and business reports. Amazing mind. She travels overseas (escape winter) 6 months of the year. She epitomizes everything that is loving, strong and ethical in every sense of the way. She is away at the moment, somewhere warm overseas, waiting the winter out but we still chat on Skype or FB messenger all the time, almost daily. The bond between mothers and daughters are always strong and precious.
