Women making the hard decisions..........

November 30 2010

Women - can 4 women in a room discussing strategy ever come to a decision? I recently started new job - love it. And we are all women in the office (seriously when will I ever fulfil my office fantasy??) Anyway I digress - last week was my first senior management meeting between the 4 of us women. The meeting was supposed to go for 45 minutes but actually lasted 4 hours. And to top it off - not one decision was made !!!!!!!! So my question is - can a group of women ever come to a decision? ? ? Your thoughts? LOL Meeka

Meetings are the worst of temporal sinkholes and there's a special corner of hell kept warm for anyone who likes them. They're usually run by dickheads who love to hear themselves speak and can only get peoe to listen under duress (hence a meeting is called) and decisions are only ever made out of quiet desperation for the torture to end...

Hey Meeka, I have my own business and employ three women (no men). I have meetings where there are 4 of us discussing issues. I find it's quite powerful and I like the mixed emotional and intellectual input that women offer. I find it works for me becasue (a) I'm in charge and stay in control and (b) we all respect each other and (c) we'd all rather finish the meeting and go do something else ! Hugs, Saturn

C'mon, we don't know what line of business it might be - interior decorating, a cleaning lady business, or something to do with kitchens ;) I like hearing one of my friend stories from work, it combines government inefficiency, dodgy compo claims, stereotypical bitchy all women workplaces, and the need to have a morning tea or lunch for EVERYTHING - and the fallout when they don't. My work by contrast, is only mildly entertaining when you reside it is a living Dilbert strip.

I've worked in a number of all women workplaces and I think if you have a set agenda and stay on track everything is possible. One place I worked, we were extremely efficient in meetings and got a lot of work done in between meetings as well. I have also worked in mixed environements and found the guys often wanted to dominate meetings, made lots of excuses for inefficiency, couldn't cope with conflict and sabotaged decisions by not following through. And when it came to a meeting in which I was trying to get a group of blokes to understand the circumstances of people with disabilities, and get them to meet their timelines, forget it. So yes, women do and can make hard decisions and tend to think holistically before they commit themselves to a decision. Wildly applauding women
