I was literally just asked this question ten minutes ago but a guy who started chatting to me on another site. As I just got back from holidays on Friday afternoon, I spent Saturday morning doing laundry, then babysat my niece at my sister's house for 24 hours from noon Saturday until noon today. Then I took my daughter to the airport as she is spending the next ten days with her father. But when asked "What did you get up to on the weekend", I simply answered "Nothing too exciting". I honestly don't think anyone cares about what I get up to, so why bore them with the details?

I give the same answer "I worked - quite boring isn't it". Secretly I think some people expect one to say.... "I'm on RHP and I fucked all weekend?". Is that what they want to hear?? I mean do guys really think women do that who are on RHP??? Or another question is..."How's it going for you on here, had any luck?". They are boring and unproductive, sticky beak questions in my eyes. Come on guys ask us interesting, more thought provoking questions that are not sexual.. *this is from a single women's point of view BTW* Foxy

Answer with what I did. Here's my answer copied from an email "Very exciting stuff this weekend lol I got to catch up on all my housework! Then I took the kids to the beach where we played in the rain. Sunday we spent watching movies and baking" If it was a weekend where I did non mummy stuff I'll tend to say "not to much - had a few drinks and met up with a fwb on Sunday. Mmm that was fun" - Posted from rhpmobile

I'll say some thing like "I had a very good time ;-) You?" He doesn't have to know that means I watched an entire season of American Horror Story, whilst eating peanut butter from the jar.)

The question can be small talk or genuine interest, in person it's easy to tell, online I kinda need to know the person a bit first before I can tell. If it feels like genuine interest then I'd go into some detail, watched my sons play footy, went to the gym, saw a band or whatever. When I ask this question I'm looking for highlights as I think learning what other people do with their time is a good way to get to know them and work out where the common ground might be, asking 'What did you do?' gives me more realistic insight than asking 'What do you like to do?', both are important things to know.

I guess it depends on how long you have known the person.. If it is the first message, then I would gloss over the boring stuff and concentrate on the glamour.. If it looks like it is leading to a meet, or you have been chatting for a while, then I think the question is genuine and they want to know what you get up to. I think most people would say that their life is mundane, but other peoples lives are interesting to people.. Just ask the publishers of women's magazines!!!!! Judge xx

Quoting 'SuperFoxxxy' I give the same answer "I worked - quite boring isn't it". Come on guys ask us interesting, more thought provoking questions that are not sexual.. *this is from a single women's point of view BTW* Foxy when I get asked that I give the same answer as Foxy When I don't work and I ask the question I start it with hey how's things ? I did this awesome Mountain bike ride on the weekend then I took the kayak out on the bay what did you get up to.sadly most of the time it is hey I worked all weekend how was yours (joys of our own business)

That's what I did on Sunday, but apparently saying that is provocative. Is adding I watched 6 episodes of Breaking Bad going to make it any less provocative? Or should I add that I was wearing my comfort pjs, no make up and ate a whole packet of Tim Tams?

Quoting 'Meander' I'll say some thing like "I had a very good time ;-) You?" I'll give the same answer, whether I was reading a book or out getting my clit pierced. Whatever I did is none of the writer's business, and what I choose to divulge can be interpreted the wrong way. Am I boring and lonely or hot but easy? I don't share things that personal until after I meet someone, and even then I may choose to keep it vague. Keep 'em guessing.

Depends on how you look at the question and the person asking it... They may very well be just breaking the ice to move into more detailed question of interest :)) no not taking sex either

No, I don't think potential dates want to hear that sort of detail. Don't you want to appear a little mysterious or sexy? You can't do that when you tell them about boring every day stuff. Everyone does that, right? Would you want to hear that sort of thing from someone? Probably not. I just say I had a quiet one, mainly did stuff around the house.

Find it ridiculous, that women want thought provoking questions from the get go?? Let me paint this picture...... First message: Hi there, I noticed in your profile that you are an animal lover, you enjoy the great out doors...etc.... But that's pretty boring to talk about, and let's face it, it's downright unsexy.... So... What I would dearly love to know, is what your thoughts are on the following chemistry problem:- Au2H2OPb diffused with AgH2 = ??? Sir_stir. Really???? That's not showing a damn scrap of interest in the person as while you've acknowledged their interests, you don't know if they're a chemistry major. But..... It's thought provoking.....so that's ok right?? - Posted from rhpmobile

A message will simply read "how was your weekend?" without so much as a name . That just doesn't make me want to engage.

As many have said, it's just an icebreaker. They're only looking for a hint to ask you more questions about yourself. I don't lie. If all I've done, or planning to do, is catch up on housework, then I say exactly that. If they're really interested in getting to know you as a person and there's a chance you may meet them some day, they will one day realise you don't lead the superhero exciting life you made out to lead and that could be worse. If they're not willing to hear about your boring weekends, they're not worth your time.

A lot of you seem to do house work on weekends. I get mine done during the week. Bugger working on weekends! Yes I use this as a way to see if a person is available for a bit of a chat. It's not that I care about the details, I just like to know if they've had some fun.

Dear Funlover.... I did the housework but unfortunately I am quite the procrastinator... So it takes me all day because I have to masturbate between each task. :p

Who knew?!!!! lol ;-) - Posted from rhpmobile No that isn't what she said....... I believe Foxxy is saying that these guys are displaying stalkerish behaviour and being sticky beaks by asking her how she is or what she got up to on the weekend. I would have thought they are normal questions people ask in conversations, online or in real life. Seriously Foxxy, do you honestly think men really care what you got up to apart from just making conversation?

You all crack me up...... Four times I answered about a raunchy weekend and four times I got asked, wow tell me more, I'm not being a perve but I've been looking at those types of things and I really want to know........... But here's the thing, as most of you know, "I'm married" so I'm not looking for the relationship etc etc and so I tell all and you know what, surprise, surprise that is the vein of ALL questions thereafter................... Everybody is the same, we all want a little spark in our life, because if you've got the children, the house and the mortgage, well then that's what we look for........... I say, what's wrong with reading a great book by (authors name inserted), have you heard of them......... Or, I've been looking at this, have you heard of it etc, etc, etc

that someone will put into their answer will be a great indicator of whether or not I'd be interested in talking to them what was your weekend like? - great, very relaxing, yours? - yeah mine too, and what do usually you like to do on the weekends? - and so on, the conversation immediately becomes what it should be, i.e. about people themselves, not about things around them small talk is for small minds
