Wedding Venues

May 23 2011

We are fairly new to S.E. QLD but are getting married next year. Can you suggest any nice venues for the service and/or the reception. My boy works but I am at uni still so we are on a budget. Thanks in advance L

Why are you getting married at 21! Too young by far. Sorry don't know Queensland so can't help you with venues... although I think you should go to Vegas. M

We just got married a couple weeks ago in a venue that looks like a warner bros looney toons hell, with circus freaks, acrobats, magicians, cartoonists, china doll, etc etc etc and a midget to serve cake. :P Oh, we had a photobooth too, so people went crazy with that. Everyone got a special commemorative guitar pick on entry, and our door guy (a porn star) had notes about the guests to make them feel comfortable, or really awkward, as they came in. Invitations were actually concert tickets... once again, different, but it was way more economical doing it different to traditional... mention 'wedding' and prices skyrocket...Dress code was black or red, leather or lace, but we both wore all white custom made leather outfits ;) The outfits have already been converted into street wear, so we are going to get a lot of use out of them. The 'wishing well' was a baby coffin \m/ and we had a large boardered photo for all the guests to sign. THIS looks killer... but its so big we have no where to hang it :( Its seriously 1.5m x 1.8m...360 people turned out for it, so it was a bit hard to chat to everyone on the night. About 20 or the invitees were swingers off RHP, so that made for an interesting end to the night... especially once they'd all had a few drinks and started mingling with the vanilla guests! We used an iPod for the music for the first half of the night, then a Led Zeppelin followed by a Black Sabbath tribute band finished out the night. We were supposed to have 80's band LA Guns playing, but something went wrong....Woodfired pizza, Nandos, Sushi, etc for food, with a sweets buffet and four tier 'zebra' coloured cake, with two custom made bobble heads of us as the toppers :)Despite all the entertainers, and catering for 360, we did it on a SMART budget, and spent less than my sister who did a more traditional thing for 85 people. The main difference is, we didnt provide alcohol (it was a licensed venue though) and we were lucky enough to get four pro photographers that all owed us favours or where good friends. We are still on the honeymoon, so havent seen most of the 1800 photos that got taken (!!), or any of the 600 from the photobooth. We are going to load all of these, plus photos submitted via our wedding website from our guests, plus the video, all onto DVDs as gifts to our friends and family. Bit more special than a jar of boiled lollies like most people do.It's your big day. Dont rush into it, and make it suit YOUR personality, not anyone elses. We had one family member in particular get VERY upset regarding our plans. But why should we conform to a 'tradition' when we clearly aren't comfortable in that mould?Above all, just have fun planning it all, we did!

Its heaps more fun and laid back. I recently went to a wedding on a nice little private beach. There were a couple of Bongo players, grog and a pig on the spit. The whole thing only cost a couple of grand and it was sooooo much fun.........keep it simple and you ll have a ball.Have fun..............
