Voice messages on RHP. Like 'em or hate 'em, or depends?

June 08 2026

Keen to hear how everyone feels about voice here on RHP messenger. I only realised voice messages were a thing until a few months ago, when someone on the forums I'd been text chatting with sent me one and it was revelatory. I know - big microphone button there the whole time, but somehow I never clicked to it. Clearly not the sharpest pencil in the box. I love voice messages now. I find them so much more intimate and revealing than text, given they're basically asymmetric conversation. I love that they're inherently imperfect and vulnerable. Sure, you can trash them and re-record, but voice messages are so much more organic than text, which can feel a bit curated. In my experience though, almost nobody here uses them. While I exchange voice messages now with a number of connections I've made, I'm always the one who initiates use (apart from that first time. You know who you are 💋). Do you use voice messages on RHP? If so, do you wait until a bit of rapport is established first, or do you dive right in? Why do you like them? Do you use voice as part of getting a feel for whether there is chemistry and attraction, prior to deciding to move to a meet up? Ever thought someone was hot when texting, then not when you moved to voice - or vice versa? Guys, do you ever use voice messages instead of text for initial outreach? How are they received? Ladies, would you / do you welcome introductory messages as voice, or is that a bit odd and creepy? Do you get them today? If so, do you listen or ignore? For the couples, do you ever send voice messages together? How about receiving voice messages from both people in a couple? Hot, or not? If you don't like voice messages at all - sending or receiving in any context - I'd love to understand why? Bit too intimate for comfort for casual hook ups? Is it a generational thing - voice only something for old farts like me? Or something else entirely - too hard, can't easily go back and search...etc?

I love the voice messages. I love hearing the guys voice before moving to a meet. I’ve been caught out before where everything seemed so hot. We met, UGLY voice. Instant turn off. Not many people use it in my experience. But I send the occasional to try get the ball rolling. Some go with it and others keep texting.

I was today years old when I found the microphone button. About 3 hours before this forum came up. I found it as I have been chatting for a while and wanted to prove I was a real girl, so sent a message. I don’t think I would jump straight in with a voice message but would probably give any first time messagers props if they used it. A real voice makes it more real ( and less likely you are being scammed - or speaking to Dave the truck driver LOL). Bri

I didn't know that at all Curious to know how they are used on the platform. Some social media networks train AI on voice data. I'll need to read the terms again.

I find voice messages harder to receive and respond to in general, not just from here. I have to put my headphones in, listen to the message, remember what is said (harder the longer it is and I like to respond to every point) and then respond 🤣 Bahaha I know that may not sound like a big deal to some, for me it’s a whole extra process to just texting and it tends to slow things down. I prefer texting and then jumping on a call.

I dated a guy who loved using voice messages in communication outside RHP. It really added a lot to the connection. I’m a sucker for a good voice. I’ve also been told by a fair few that I have a good voice. So have used voice messages between regular texts to help connection and build up since. When it became available in RHP, I was keen to use it. It brings a realness and human touch that can’t be achieved by text alone. Most I’m sure don’t know about it and I’ve yet to receive one before I send one. Special mention to PandaAndBri for keeping the legend of Dave the trucky alive. Love it.

I have an irrational ick when it comes to voice messages from people I don’t know well. It’s different when it’s someone close… but on Rhp? I’d cringe and probably awkwardly pretend like that didn’t happen 😳 Dunno why I am like this, it’s quite unfair really…

If it’s someone I don’t know, a voice message instantly - it’s an immediate yuck. Can’t explain it but it makes my skin crawl and screw up my face. VM’s to people I know… different story 😉
