Up to the challenge...

December 29 2010

I keep a list of “10 things to do before I die” and each year about this time, I check off the ones that I managed to do and round the list back up to 10 just to keep things interesting…then keep the list on the wall near my desk as a reminder to keep on challenging myself. This year, I did manage to tick a few of these off the list and just finished the new one.|The list is mine of course and includes people, places, adventures on the journey...ways to maybe push boundaries or try something new. Does anyone else keep or have a list like this…either written or just jotted down as a mental note to self? If so, maybe you would be interested in sharing a few ideas…and if this thread gets legs, I will put up a few of my own.|This is not at all like the upcoming New Year’s resolutions, which with a bit of luck will all be broken... | ...by 1:00 a.m. on New Year’s day.

Hey Chasing... I'm curious, exactly what and WHO was on you list ? I never believe in reflecting on my failures rather I focus on my triumphs, the good times and everything I've achieved. While this year has been a shocking one personally/romantically, it's been an enormous year of growth. I have tried (and enjoyed) more this year than I have in my life. It has opened my eyes to an entire range of new pursuits and interests. Sure I have had many many setbacks but life's too short to be sad. I say, "fuck it and have fun" ! I only have one resolution for 2011: Smile and enjoy each day like it was your last ! Hugs Miss Saturn

Hey Miss S... | Could not agree more that dwelling on past failures accomplishes nothing...the past does not equal the future unless you let it. My list doesn't reflect failures but rather helps keep me focused on what I really want to do. That said, I do like the definition of insanity...repeating the same mistakes over and over again and expecting a different outcome. I'll try anything twice and more if I like it...but usually stop there if I don't. Besides, I don't suffer from insanity...I really like my version of it! | Last year's tick boxes included breaking the "100 species" list in a sport that I enjoy...so this year it's 125 and means I will have to do some travelling to get there. That puts Cuba on the radar...and of course just maybe a few decent cigars. | Beliz was on last year's list...and have to say I almost cancelled my return flight home. | A couple of ticks went inside the boundaries of my own personal "sexploration list"...time to move the fence a bit farther out and see who and what might just play in. The unexpected sometimes is the best part of the ride. | I hit a major league home run on a business front...so now have decided to keep going and see if I can answer the question "how high is up". | So turn the amp up to 11, Bon Jovi...and let's get 2011 rolling along. Maybe even need to lengthen the list a bit..or make a few changes as I go. Life is an adventure and no sense in limitiing the possibilities...is there? | Now the who, Miss S...decorum prevents me from issuing that as a public service announcement. If it's meant to be, it will happen and... | ...it's just a matter of time and opportunity.

I have a list of things (or people) to do as well. It is not written down anywhere but is in my head. I have kept this list since I was a teenager and every year around this time I do reflect back on the year past and think of the year to come. New Years Eve is the time I update and modify the list. I never have been one for the huge celebratory aspect, for me it has always been the time for quiet reflection. Time to think of when I went off track and see if I need to change tracks. This year I will be looking back over the last five years...seeing the enormous changes ( both personal and proffessional ) that took place in my lfe during this time and planning for the next five. This planning has already begun and the wheels for the change have already been set in motion. One of the main priorities for the next five is a major move away from where I am currently living as well as a change in occupation. Breaking it down to this next year is to begin my new degree at uni as well as help my young foster daughter make it through to the end of year 12. On the naughty side of things.....I have a short list of people to meet but this is subject to change rapidly and often. Dont think the number on THAT list is anywhere near ten but there are one or two on it currently that will be held over until the new year. .........Off to find my pencil to check some off the list and add newbies........

Short/intermediate and long term goals. And there's a sense of achievement when you cross things off the list. I cannot find the bit of paper anymore myself. Someone probably thought it was an outlandish shopping list coz there was a Mustang convertible on there amoung other things.
