Im crossing Uganda OFF my schedule! lol But really, mr simplelife... lets put it into some perspective. Sure.... its not good.... but drug warlords, tribal violence, assault, and sexual assault rates against adults AND children in Uganda are a far bigger issue for that nation. DG

I think there are about 85 countries at the moment with anti gay laws or laws against homosexual acts.

Anyone of you been to Uganda? What tribal violence, assault and sexual assault are you talking about DG?Or is this based on what you're hearing from the media? And of course the media always presents an unbiased account, the truth, yeah? As for the anti gay law, that's pretty bad. But then one would have to look at the reasoning behind it and the country in question as well. There are many parts of Africa where being gay is a crime, it used to be like this in many first world countries as well, it's a gradual process. Most people there are religious, have certain cultural values etc and sadly this shapes the laws in that country. Not long ago the media was in a frenzy about how they wanted to ban gay marriage here in Australia, I never found out how it all ended. If you look back a bit you will also see that it's been quite a journey, quite a process. It's a sad law and these things take time - Posted from rhpmobile

I've travelled reasonably widely through African nations and unfortunately Shazza..... Uganda is in real strife. But it's not alone in that continent. Now while I'm not seeking to diminish the anti-gay law issue..... worrying about the outlawing of sexuality is kind of a trendy western civilisation focus.... ......and pales when compared to the more significant issues affecting these nations, such as children being abducted and conscripted into guerrilla forces, ritualistic and prevalent beatings, massively high statistics of rapes, and murders upon juveniles before sexuality is even relevant. Bigger picture.

Yes people bash gays, but its illegal to assault anyone for any reason. So being gay does not mean you are persecuted by the state, it means you are hurt by some idiot gay basher , or some idiot landlord or what ever Its individuals that have a go, not the government to take away rights, except of course to be married. So yes its not a law that you protest, and get yourself shot by the police. There are bigger fish to fry , is all DG is saying. Us white liberal , middle class folk, have our pet projects, but over there your life depends on the smallest shift in fate. Your not safe as a woman, or a child at all from being abused and exploited or killed. Every day , every second is a struggle. that's why people flee to your lovely safe Australian shores. Where you can wave a placard and burn a flag or do what ever and not end up dead or in jail. They have very different views on Homosexuality, right or wrong peoples customs and beliefs are often different from our own. We are just privileged that we can speak loud and long about what we don't want. we are fairly educated and education is the key to stopping bigotry but if there are no schools, no safety to go to school we cannot expect a sophistication in politics etc. Liberal minded is a gift of democracy and education for both sexes. that's why may places stop education for women. To keep that control
