USA advice please

July 07 2018

I will be traveling solo to America early next year, there are really only a few things I want to see while there. The spruce gooseA spacex launchThe grand canyonPearl HarbourA space shuttle

I was thinking of flying to Las Vegas,(Grand Canyon) then Los Angeles (space shuttle), Spacex launch (california - Vandenberg base) then going to Portland(spruce goose), and from there to Hawaii.
I am not keen on driving, but I am thinking I may have to? (well apart from the Hawaii bit :))

Any advice welcome :)

Take a few trains on shorter hops. The time you take getting in and out of terminals evens out a little, but you do get to see countryside you’d otherwise not have. And it’s reasonably priced.

There will be shuttle buses that run Vegas to various points within LA. Do a quick search and I guarantee you can find them.

Most of your travel seems perfectly set up for a low cost carrier like Southwest since none of your flights are long. You could easily take flights from LV to LA (choice of four airports, depending on what part of LA you want to be in) and Southwest also goes to Portland.

There are also shuttles from LAX to Vandenberg. Not sure how far the nearest commercial airport is from there for the Vandenberg to Portland portion of your trip, but worst case scenario, you head back to LAX and go to Portland from there.

Uber and Lyft are readily available for intra-city excursions.

The only destination I recommend you drive to is Hawaii. 😁

You may as well see Yellowstone?...Yellowstone is suppose to be amazing. I'm doing USA next year and I have been advised best to get rental car from LA to Yellowstone from a good friend who lived in the US.

We drove from Vegas to LA. It was fun. You don’t need a car in Vegas but for LA I would definitely recommend having a car to get around. Or do some day tours if you don’t want to drive.

The Drive from LA to Portland is iconic up Highway 1. If you haven’t been to states before maybe you should consider it and also go to San Francisco. There are so many beautiful places in between its too hard to pick. Yosemite is amazing though it’s a bit of a detour.

...having been to every one of them. If you’ve time to spare, go by air. I prefer a nice high end motor home when back home traveling there now and can go wherever the wind blows me along the way.

Of course if a really bomb shell hitch hiker that looks a bit like Daisy Duke or Nigella flags me down and blows me like the wind? I’ll take her wherever she wants to go.

    Beware of grizzly bears!

Try going on a cruise to Mexico or Bahamas while you’re there it’s really cheap compare here.
