There was an apparent study being done on sexual behaviour and they were allegedly using profiles from several sites as case studies. So far I have been unable to verify if any of the above studies ever took place but the rumours persist. On a personal note, if they use me as a case study they are in for a shock!

If they're after an education, I guess they could learn a thing or two from some of our members.

Of the day, they need your expressed permission to use any information they can garner off this site. The nanny laws is in Australia lets idiots post anything on line

Its a basic privacy warning that people put on profiles notifying institutions not to use profile information. Legally it has no weighting all it is basically stating is the profile owner may take legal action against someone if the profile information is used.   I can tell you now it wouldn't be worth the effort of a solicitor or the legal system to bother taking a case on lol. The internet is a public domain...best advice...display whatever you don't care about and leave the rest off lol.

I can safely say there are so many legal hoops to jump through, Sydney Uni or other institutions would never be allowed to use anything here for any research whatsoever. I think a lot of members see the warning on other people's profiles and hink they better add it too, without really knowing what it means. (Not referring to you Elle, I'm generalising here). For ages I've been tempted to add to my profile something to the effect of Sydney University: Please study me, poke me, prod me, use me and abuse me. I'm willing and waiting, come get me! But maybe 50zcool has the copyright there...

We don't give a shit about the University doing a studies as long as they don't may us look bad (LOL)We have had people on the net use our pics as theirs, which is a lot worst than a University study, although the pics their used where 15 years out of date, we did offer them some up-dated pics but their never got back to us....Only people I find that don't like any study are usually cheating or got something to hide (LOL) that's the way I look at it.. Ok you all have a good day GT

do these people with the warnings on it not realise you dont have to be a member to read the forums? I dont about anyone else but if I was to utilise some of the information garnered on her for research purposes Im not likely to check every profile for a warning of any kind....especially if Im not a memeber and just reading the forums externally lol   Kisses Focus

I don't think it should be an issue, especially when I see a lot surveys being very general in nature....for example out of the 10,000 people on Internet dating sites, 35% of them list they are bi.....now, my question is, how is that singling anyone specific out?? Also given that we don't use our real names, what does it honestly matter if they do use some of our info??

Many years ago a student tried using these sites for a study. Myself and a small group of people on these sites which included a lawyer amongst them and some people with good knowledge of the University process. A quite detailed legal disclaimer was put on the profile, and an academic complaint was put against the student as there are rules on gathering information for an academic paper. Personally I would not have had any issues on the paper just the methods of gathering information, with the use of lies and not being honest with what was going on.The paper was never published.B
