I think the old switcheroo fantasy is being planned, the one where a stranger impersonates a known lover, all under the cover of darkness.

I think you're right about this being a fantasy in the dark with his wife unaware. Reminds of a Jeffrey Archer short story I read 20 years ago, where one guy, had a fantasy and suggested to his neighbour, of similar build, that they swap one night and sleep (and have quiet sex in the dark) with each others wives.
