Statistics of Sex

May 13 2017

I am curious to know what percentage of the population swing, visit sex clubs, etc ? I am 51 and been married for 20 years in the beginning and for most of my marriage focused on he "white picket fence" scenario and running a business but now I want to get the most out of life. My wife and I visited a club in Sydney but I suppose did not work out well as she was not into it but then our relationship has issues. So I am curious to know whether most of the population are happy with a mono relationship ? It would seem that looking at RHP that the underground percentage of the population interested is rising ?

I believe if we all still lived in caves we wouldn't be such a monogamous society. Im a big believer in that society has formed the rules of engagement to cater to our relatively fragile egos. Jealousy is a well understood response and it seems in humans it can have devastating impact. I am sure that in the animal kingdom, which humans are a part of, let's not forget that, there are other species that suffer from jealousy. I'm sure the young lion or wilderbeast is struggles to come to terms with being beaten by a stronger opponent and not get to screw all the others in their group. I'm sure some do actually get spiteful but the rules of engagement for the wider animal kingdom seem to be well understood and respected. Where am I going with this? Humans for the most part are useless. We get jealous. We get spiteful and we can sometimes be vindictive and revengeful. Is it conditioning from society that perpetuates this idea that we should only have one partner? Could be but I'm not sure if the issue is because of society or we have these 'rules' in society because of the way we react. I'm an atheist but I do acknowledge that our society and it's rules were born from the rule of religion. I do believe that religion was created as a means to give the developing world a set of rules that they could live by that helped with people dealing with their shit. The 10 commandments basically. Are more people challenging these rules. For sure. What the percentage is I don't know. I do know I went from a man that suffered from jealousy or more probably envious and ego dented when my relationships had issues. I've grown though and out of the failed marriage I've had I have realised that I don't want that sort of emotional anchor anymore. It weighs you down and stops you from being a healthy human. I will love again but I will also not put the constrictions of monogamy on that relationship. A bit deep but that's what I think is the reason behind monogamy and why it persists

I agree it would be rising, no doubt, but every so often, I get a reminder in RL that most people in the general population, are still a world away from this. I forget that, and somehow assume it's the norm, most women my age or older don't even seem to be interested in sex, least the ones I've met, with a few exceptions. But guys too, even young guys, most are still wanting monogamous relationships, this is my opinion based on my experience 😃

So many folks(couples) still have normal lives, white pickett fences and still swing. It is perfectly normal but they keep that side of life separate. That being the sexlife is not as advertised as the "white pickett fence". Because of the people who do not understand the lifestyle may judge negatively the unknown. I am sure like many on here that have enjoyed a lovely wife on a Sunday roast. And some wives have enjoyed roasts on other days of the week not just on Sunday. Caring is sharing...pass me the bread please, love to have an extra serve thanks.. seconds please😉 Also their roasts have been served behind" white pickett fences. Also like the movie The Matrix, you need to choose which pill you will take, to ultimately decide what workd you will live in. I took the red pill a few decades ago. Hopefully it is your choice.

I disagree. Religion and its fucked up rules was developed to suppress Pagan and Wiccan life styles. Today religious beliefs still practice these ancient life styles and celebrations however, do not acknowledge them. Totally my opinion of course ✡ - Posted from rhpmobile

Im not sure if is rising, however I like to think so. It does appear more and more people are becoming more aware of their sexual needs and desires. I do know from my experiences with today's youth, they are more experimental and open to non monogamy. This can only be a good thing for future generations. I hope so anyway. - Posted from rhpmobile

Hi meander, You are right in that I am asking the converted and therefore results could be skewed but also I feel people on this site probably reflect more and maybe have a better perspective. I agree with "Time for Tea' that if we lived in caves we would be not so monogamous. Cheers Curious

That goes for monogamy, swinging, cheating, murder... Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's right, but as far as matters of the genitals go, as long as it's consensual it comes down to the individual and whatever works for him/her/them. Don't know the stats though, sorry. After a bit of time on RHP though I just started assuming everyone's into something weird and fun.

On this site, I have noticed the 'online now' figure (at upper right of screen) has moved from peaks of about 5000/5500 to about 6000/7000... wrt Religion/Monogamy/Marriage: Vast numbers of religions have come and gone over the entire course of human history. Whilst the specifics of each may vary somewhat, I think all of the different religions bear/have borne certain hallmarks. The most fervent adherents are frequently indoctrinated at young ages or at vulnerable times of life (when they are at their most pliable). Monogamy and Marriage in society arose as (and still is) the preferred means of ensuring parents (read: Fathers) abide by their fiduciary responsibility to their offspring, and it is broadly known/accepted that people with family and financial commitments are considered more stable in society because their family and financial responsibilities render them less likely to risk their employment income or status by speaking or acting out in opposition to authority figures and institutions. In all societies, and for all time there have been people behaving differently behind closed doors than they would like the broader community to know. Modern technology has lifted the veil a little, but as to whether there has been any actual increase in numbers of people pursuing intimacy outside their marriages? Could be anyone's guess. Were you to conduct a global survey, as Meander suggested, the replies you'll get from sites such as this will bias your results. In any event, there is no means of compelling anyone to be honest is there? Any offer of incentive would also undermine the integrity of survey results. So, what do you do, eh?

Sex at Dawn by Ryan and Jaitha..Is an excellent read and puts forward a cogent argument as to why monogamy is and always has been unnatural for most humans and the view that it is ,is a huge contributing factor to divorce. They argue that if we let go of thinking that monogamy was the "right " way to behave then most couples would stay together . Quoting 'inspirit' "I'm an atheist but I do acknowledge that our society and it's rules were born from the rule of religion. I disagree. Religion and its fucked up rules was developed to suppress Pagan and Wiccan life styles. Today religious beliefs still practice these ancient life styles and celebrations however, do not acknowledge them. You're talking about specific religions and practices there, at their core, pagan or wiccan lifestyles follow a system of faith based beliefs as well, they're all in essence just ways for a bunch of people to try and explain things they couldn't understand.
