A Soul Mate is many things...not only a lover! I believe that my son and Step Dad are Soul Mates as the connection you see between the two is staggering and beautiful to watch! < I have to giggle at people that believe their Soul Mate is their one true love! This is not so at all...It could be your best friend, your mother, sister, brother a stranger from the street that you meet and gives you words of wisdom that hit your very core and then you never see them again! < There are in fact more than one Soul Mate in this life and in every life! There are Soul Mates that you have unfinished business with...they could have been abusive to you in the past lives so therefore you need to be strong enough to get rid of them in this life so that connection with them ceases! < You hear of many people being widowed, but within a short time they have met someone new and are more in love than ever! It happened to Glenn McGrath and it happened to Rove! Do I believe the deceased was their Soul Mate?...yes! But as I stated earlier...there are many Soul Mates for the one person! I believe that Rove and Glenn's wives had sent them their Soul Mates so that they can keep living with happiness and love! xFunlovingx

There certainly is no mention of "Soulmates" in any ancient texts or doccuments (that anyone has been able to show me), whilst, on the other hand, there is mention of quite the opposite in SOME :) Some ancient teachings talk of "Soul sleep" Some hint at "Dual soul" some do a lot of discussions of souls states. Maybe I am a jaded old fool, but, I will just get on with life and enjoy myself "Not hurting" anyone in the meantime, as opposed towaiting in vain for someone who may or may not be my "Soulmate" *smiles*

A soul mate..very simply is someone that you connect with on all levels but most of all, spirtiually. No, I am not talking about religion...but people, past or present that you know on a higher level, undeniably there and we all have them. I don't wander around talking to ghosts but know that I am strongly influenced by what I call my Ancients. Others too now gone...not too distant family, are amongst them. | In the present world...if I were to find that connection of the emotional, physical and spiritual in a woman, colour me gone. Too...I think we can/do have spiritual connections to others that may not make you a soul mate but can make you incredibly good friends. Some might even say...intimate friends. | Leave it there...be curious to hear what others say. | Oh and if DGT starts to get her wiggle on in this thread... | ...please, call me! | | What is that, DTG...an Hawaiian booty call? Shake your grass...come on, I want to watch!

As for always, and has been said, most will assimilate "soul-mate" to mean, the love of their life, the one they'll spend the rest of their life with. Having done research on this in my younger years, the only things I found written on the subject was that they were as has been said, People of significance in our lives, father, brother, sister, mother, or even just a life long friend. We meet them, find them, seemingly bump into them in the strangest ways, and yet find, in our times of need, they're there. In our times of fortune, they're there, and usually just when we think no one is watching, yes, they are there. So I suppose my thoughts on this soul-mate thing is that they are merely ppl that throughout life, or lives, depending on which your beliefs carry you towards, they are simply ppl that almost always just happen to be around whenever needed, wherever you happen to be, and always will be.

None of these have anything to do with soul mates. . To me, it is that intangable ingredient in a friendship, male - female, male- male, female - female, which ever mix it comes in, if you are ever fortunate to find yours in an intimate partner, hang on to them! Some people are lucky to find more than one in their life time. . There is a bond that supercedes our physical being, there is definately a spiritual connection... .

"...losing through you what seemed myself, i find selves unimaginably mine; beyond sorrow's own joys and hopings very fears yours is the light by which my spirit's born: yours is the darkness of my soul's return... you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars."- e. e. cummings Hugs, Jaz

SO many terms!!! ALL Cliches :) As we read books and magazines.. listen to songs, and stories, watch movies... etc etc, THEN someone asks us what LOVE is, or what a SOUL MATE is.. or what any other intangible media is, we invariably quote something out of our past, and so it is, or becomes a cliche. I would love to be able to BELIEVE in love, but have never seen it in action. I have watched people put their lives on the line to save or protect another person, but even that is not love. I have listened to people insist on "Unconditional love" but I havent seen that love either. Even the God of the Bible did NOT have unconditional love. quite the opposite in fact. :) I have seen people martyr themselves and invariably make many people around them suffer with them in a condition which appears more like co dependancy, not as in needing another person to feed off, but having to hang onto a dream or a hope or a crutch because the pain of letting go seems too great. even Altruism is false at a fundamental level because EVERYONE has an underlying desire to be recognised for their good will or deeds, EVEN if it is because it MAKES THEMSELVES FEEL GOOD.. :) Shit.. i got on a soap box again didnt I ?? *chuckles*

Quoting 'theone1983' The devil has my soul...all i asked for in return was pussy. | Yep...I tried that exactly once, but fortunately swapped out for the souls of a handful of politicians the old boy had his eye on anyway. Tricked him...they were heading that way already. | But the bastard got me right back.... | I told him exactly what I wanted and *~zap~* but nothing happened. Well, other than a freaking little 12" tall pianist with a baby grand Steinway appeared. Now that little shit is making a killing playing Mozart and I still am, well... | ...at least it works well.

I think the popular need to find ones "soulmate" is another expression of how we like to lump all our needs on the one person as I've mentioned in another thread. But it's a nice notion all the same I guess to think that we can be so bonded to someone that our souls are as one. But my soul is rather complex as I bet everyone's is and to find one person who matches every facet perfectly, well I just don't think it's possible or necessary. SoulmateS, plural, yes ok I think we can have soul mates, I think I have a few. People I feel so impossibly comfortable bearing my soul to and people who support what my soul yearns for and visa versa. Soulmates? Best Friends? Are they one and the same? As far as "The One" well I think they have to be your best friend first and foremost so even if that thing called love goes flat then you really shouldn't tear shreds out of your best friend even if you're divorcing them, right? As far as trancending this life, well I really do wish I believed that I had a greater purpose and an afterlife but alas I think I'm just another living animal on this here earth and one day when my heart stops a beating then all that will be left of me is the memories in those still alive. Actually I'm quite at peace with the simplicity of this!

read 'the symposium' by Plato.........a collection of stories and speeches from ancient Greece that includes a description of how Zeus split humans in half and condemned them to a life of searching for the half that completed them .....(soulmates)........its a difficult read, but worthwhile as it explores many facets of human relationship and sexuality...........the term 'soulmate' is a relatively modern one, but the concept has been with us for thousands of years and is evidenced in the tragedies of many many cultures.......
