Smoking

February 24 2011

OK, this is probably an obvious question that can be answered easily, but what's the difference between a regular smoker, and a light smoker? Given the amount of research stating that smoking is addictive, I would've thought that if you smoke, you smoke, you don't, then you don't. Or is this just so those that are extremely picky can choose if they respond to someone that only smokes a few smokes, or those that smoke a lot. Thoughts ?Insomnian

I see a 'light' smoker as maybe someone who only has a couple a day or only smokes on occasion rather than every day average smoker as someone who smokes every day, always has a pack with them and will have 10 or more a day. heavy smoker would be anyone who has over 20 a day and you can probably smell them a mile off

A smoker is a smoker is a smoker. There is the occassional person who will have a cigarette when out with the guys and that is it and there is some who enjoy a cigar every now and then. I would consider them to be light smokers.

I went on a date a couple of weeks ago with a man who claimed to be a non smoker. Within an hour he said he had the occasional cigarette and would I mind if he had one. Huh? I had a cocktail in my hand so there was no point in leaving, so I joined him outside in the cold. I left about 1 drink and 10 cigarettes later. WTF?!? . He wasted my time and his. He said he states himself to be a non smoker on his profile because non-smoking women don't tend to want to meet up with smokers. . So I'd say that someone who puts regular smoker on their profile is simply more honest than someone who puts light smoker on their profile.

Yup, agreeing with others here. i've gone on dates with woman who claimed to be non-smokers, who then turned-out to smoke like a chimney. I think smokers are so blinded by their addiction that they are incapable of seeing how disgusting their "habit" is. And it's dishonest. If people were up-front about it, I wouldn't mind so much (I'd simply have nothing to do with them!). I'm sick of hearing people say "I said I'm a non-smoker because I'm trying to quit", or "But I only smoke when I drink".NO, I do not want to stand-around outside in the cold while you chuff-away, I don't want to loiter with other smokers and breathe-in your exhaust, and I really don't want to hold your stub while you go to the loo or say hi to a random friend. And, I'm offended that you abruptly cut-off conversation and walk-out every 30 minutes, leave me twiddling my thumbs, and then waltz back in as if nothing is wrong.Oh, and I have zero interest in kissing you -- your hair and skin clothes reek all the time, and now your mouth tastes and smells vile. Since this a dating site, maybe that's the best way to put it: smoking is a massive turn-off!

no difference at all. you are a smoker or you aren't. there's no blurred line. you either stink of cigarettes or you don't........

but like everyone who doesn't do something, they forget there are others who DO do it.As a light smoker I really don't like being around heavy smokers. it's just TOO much smoke for me to put up with. As a light smoker I smoke outside only, I have under half a pack a day and I don't have my first one until lunchtime. The stench of cigarette smoke early in the morning makes me nauseous. So yes, there is a difference between light smokers, and heavy smokers, when you're a smoker.Cheers. :)

" what's the difference between a regular smoker, and a light smoker"To you there is no difference, because you're a non smoker. To other people who smoke there may very well be a difference, there's a difference to me.

its like asking whats the difference between an asshole and a nice guy.it all depends on who you ask.I dont really care if you dont wanna talk to me because I have the occasional ciggie.I might not wanna talk to you coz you reek of alcohol...or wear way too much perfume or aftershave....or have severe halitosis. The difference is....I wont say you're disgusting as im walking away.JMO...BJxxx

Quoting 'mikeandshel' but the question was initially asked by a non smoker...........wasnt it? I didn't feel it necessary to check out Insomnians profile to answer his question as I see it.Insomnian wasn't asking just for responses from non-smokers so I'm not sure what his status as a non-smoker has to do with anything? It's quite obvious from all the earlier replies that non-smokers don't see a difference, a smoker is a smoker is a smoker. So, as a smoker, who does see a difference, I'm not sure why you'd argue that something I perceive (that being the difference between a light and heavy smoker) isn't valid?

The answer is subjective-There was a similar argument in another forum post.Wildly different subject, but very similar outcome. Went something like this-If you suck another guys cock, in the presence of a woman, are you gay or Bi or Hetro?!?!?!?!Answer was then, as it is now......depends who you ask!For the record- i have the occasional cigar - usually around Christmas, or very special occasions, and to be honest, not fussed if my lover is a smoker, as i spend more time kissing the lips she can't smoke with hahaha

Although i feel this topic has been done to death i will put forward my view points. I am a smoker and would say i was a light smoker. By this i mean that generally from Monday through to Thursday i rarely smoke, the others day i do...probably about 6 a day more if I am having a few drinks. Yes if you smoke you are a smoker but there are varying degrees to the amount people smoke so you could class smokers as light, heavy etc. I do take offence when people say smokers are disgusting. I eat well, exercise, keep myself clean and smelling nice and certainly do not smell or taste like an ashtray! Miss Fun xxx

I agree with Polar (and if google chrome let me, I would reply with quote!!!) I am what the medical profession class as a heavy smoker......around 20 a day.A light smoker to me is someone who has less than 5 a day and a social smoker is someone who only smokes when they drink.....but they will still probably get lung cancer silly fools!!! LOL Everyone has their vice.Yep I smoke....I don't ask you to come outside in the cold with me.....would prefer to enjoy my cancer stick in peace thank you very much! I have mints after each one as well as wash my hands.....sure the smell may still be there but not as strong.....if I am with non smokers, that's fine...I just smoke less if at all...which is good! personally the smell and taste kissing when kissing a beer or bourbon drinker is more disgusting than smokers breath!! AND the smoke doesn't alter the smoker's mental state......unlike those people who drink! Just my 2 cents worth :D
