Sorry but there is no way I want to get involved in another imported "tradition".   It seems like we want to become a little USA and take on all this stuff with no societal discussion regarding the consequences of taking on another "holiday".   Mike

and he was not even dressed in a costume, it was just scam for him and his mate   I carved out a pumpkin as I do every year as our kids love Halloween, they clean up on our street as our neighbors kids are adults now.   Our kids & friends dressed as:   Wizard Jilted black Bride Witch Demon

That's a fair call.. I'm pretty tired of the little USA thing too.I did not know it was a strictly US thing. I thought it was pagan? Quoting 'miketheduc' Sorry but there is no way I want to get involved in another imported "tradition".   It seems like we want to become a little USA and take on all this stuff with no societal discussion regarding the consequences of taking on another "holiday".   Mike

My response was "I just bought 10kg of onions. Give them one of those. I can spare a few." No idea how that went. Perhaps I should ask. As for All Hallow's Eve, I had every intention of dressing up and celebrating the migration of the Sidhe in my own way, alas, a series of unfortunate events meant less celebrating and more commiserating. Oh, well, there's always next time :)

Yes a pagan festival of the dead.   Tranformed by the US into an excuse for kids to eat sweets and therefore enrich dentists and lolly sellers.   Mike

Oh mike you're so cynical.. And accurate.. ~laughs~Actually, all jokes aside. Our street make it a bit of a meet and greet. Everyone has a little chin wag with neighbours they only usually wave at. So Yanky or not, it's actually pretty fun and useful.

someone in our block dropped off a note and a yellow and orange balloon. In the note it asked that we hang the balloons on the fence if we were happy to give out treats, but only to children accompanied by an adult. About fifty children came by,fairies, ghouls, witches, amazing costumes and that was just the adults It was actually fun . x R

So we got egged....which the little buggers probably stole from my hen house anyway. It was originally pagan in origan and is still celebrated by Pagans and Wiccans however in more modern times it has just become yet another retail extravaganza. I guess we will be celebrating Thanks giving next!!! I have to wonder about the mentality of it all...allowing little kids to knock on strangers doors..begging for lollies...and when none is forthcoming...encourage the little tykes in acts of vandalism... Modern day equivalent of Stand and Deliver!
