Porn.....gratifying but a "dying" industry?

Sounds to me like a great number of industries not just porn. FIFO life is much the same. Sounds glamourous and full of money but the suicide rate is incomparable to others. Major sports are much the same with many addicted to painkillers and the limelight and then become a shadow of themselves after retirement and either commit suicide or die young of heart disease. The professional wrestling profession has an extrememly high number of people who die young due to years of painkiller abuse to get through the rigourous schedule they live by. I think sadly it's a sign of the times. Not many people find a job they truly love any more and go through the motions. Porn is an industry like any other. It chews people up and spits them out in the name of dollars for those who run the business. Sad but true.

Not a fan of porn,it leaves me cold. I googled Arpad Miklos and what a sad story. He suffered from depression it seems and I am sure his work was a contributing factor to that ,xxFreya

I think the thing to remember is that there are two distinct types of porn. The mainstream industry created porn and amatuer home made porn. I enjoy watching amatuer home made porn because it's real emotions and passion that I'm seeing, not some industry concocted formula. The participants in amatuer porn are generally just average people like you and I who appear to be thoroughly enjoying their erotic encounter. I assume the fact they chose to make a recording and then shared it online means they also get a kick from knowing others are watching them, and getting off too? For me MMF mature interrcial sex is the hottest form of porn. There is something very erotic about watching a 50 + white women enjoying the attention of two younger black men. I have watched a few doco's on the porn industry and its not a glamourous industry at all.

Coincidently, I watched a Docco on prostitution hosted by Rupert Everett late last night. He interviewed people from the high class end, right down to the street walkers in dark alleyways, and people who are no longer in it. One woman did it to pay for her education and is now a Dr and author. Some did it because they were homeless or on drugs. The bottom line was some people hated it, some loved their work. Some had great outcomes financially, some didnt. So I think it would be the same for porn stars. Lots see it as a way to get into movies, some do it for money/fame. Some do it because of their circumstances and regret it. Some cant live with themselves afterwards.

saw same document last night. Eye opener. I am not a fan of porn and would sometimes watch it out of curiousity. but rarely. It just confirmed my thoughts about prostitution and felt sadness for them. For most, it was a path they have taken due to cicumstance (e.g. the 19yo Jordanian prostitute in Jerusalem) and the TG/TV prostitutes of Paris doing their business from the dark cold wet woods and from a van. All to survive with no education, and no skillset and family. The fact that their very identity and existence has been reduced to just their bodies and holes that strangers used and abused can be soul destroying. I can imagine it can be devastating to be living a dichotomous life of having to treat your body as a pleasure vessel for others to abuse when the mind and heart disagrees on what it sees. I assumed there will be some similarities in porn where actors are reduced to just another flesh for sale. Something to ponder about, as it can happen to anybody and I hope none of my loved ones would not be 'forced' in this profession due to lack of choices or support from my family and I.

jsut got a message from an 18yo young cub who was trying to hook up with me. Not my taste as I have a boy of similar age and shoes older than him. Anyway, what concerns me is this bit in his message "What I'm really looking for is a sugar mamma to help me get through college, so if you're up for that I'm up for anything " I told him that he is not what i am looking for and I am not in the scene to pay for sex nor treat people like prostitutes. I advised him to rethink what he is reducing himself to and be careful out there of people who will take advantage of his naivety.

Porn star Erik Rhodes (real name James Naughtin) took steroids to keep his muscly physique perfect for films. The steroids he was on gave him a heart attack which killed him. During his last interview, this is what he said. "Do not expect to have a career in porn. Use porn as a platform to start a successful career as a hooker. Get your face out there through the movies - which really dont make you shit - so you can sell your ass for top dollar on the street ( unless you think you have too much pride for that and you just wanna shake your ass for singles at the bar) Either way, just be prepared to be used, for your relationships to fail, and to lead an overall miserable life. Hugs and kisses, good luck and look me up when youre in New York. I know a great dealer."Sorry, the "dying" industry was a just to highlight the untimely deaths of the men and woman who were in porn. Porn will always be available and will go on, but hopefully any young people deciding to go into the industry think long and hard about what it involves and make plans for when they decide to get out.

Out of watching once you know the dark side. And I think the days of highly paid stars is slowly coming to an end. The amount of amateurs and exhibitionists now make it easy to watch any porn you want for free online. Thousands on young men and women are pushing their boundaries further and further to get the most thumbs up in the hope of making a few dollars. What used to be an art form has turned into an R rated version of girls gone wild. - Posted from rhpmobile

Strange as it may seem I find video porn a little ho hum...well the professional ones. To me it is all acting and lack that certain exciting appeal. I prefer: Amateur porn off the net, sure its quality is poor but at least it is real. Written porn now that I really do like it lets the imagination run wild and it can be any thing at all. I have a favourite site for that and it has every possible type of story. LC

a few years ago, I was site super on a construction job in the Pilbara in WA.. Had a fella there working for me, who was probably one of the very nicest men I have ever met in my entire working life.what has this go to d with porn?Well.. I heard the crews talking about porn and this fell having a LOT Of it..I asked him one day If could borrow a hard drive he had..I took it back to my room, plugged it in, selected a movie, and hit play.."A fella sitting on a char on the beach... camera pans in... "low and fckn behold.. it is my own fckn man..he was in ALL of them..THIS just as NOT going to work.. so, I returned him the HD..Asked him about his ... ummm .. pasttimes...he LOVES women... LOVES sex.. LOVES the camera..gets paid 4 5ths of fck all for it.. but was so damned happy about it all.. and was obviously good at what he did...MAYBE Australia is different from America and Europe...He didn't need the industry for a living -- I paid him well for what he did a work -- so doing it do a past time, appears to be a better option..

Not only for the actors but the watchers. So why are we here at RHP ? we're here because of the basic human need to interact with the opposite sex or for some the same sex. It feels good , it's exciting and we keep on coming back for more, but at least we don't need to perform on cue like the porn stars . When I was in my early 20s the only porn we had access to was the crap video tapes or mags usually full of the same boring stuff. Then came the Internet along and the painfully slow downloads. Most men had a mostache and sideburns and the women a flick back Farah Fawsett hairstyle. BUT, the Internet was so figgin slow , we were lucky to watch 1 or maybe 2 short clips a day. Yep , took 1/2 hour to download and lasted all of 20 - 30 seconds. Today we can watch as much as we want when we want it and amoung all the crap we occassionly find something we really like. Watching a dick enter a pussy then the cum shot all looks the same after awhile.. I can imagine for the actors it would be the same. Having sex without natural desire must take its toll. At least us viewers can switch it off and come back the next time.

What used to be an art form has turned into an R rated version of girls gone wild. if you mean the live amateur webcamming, most hardcore amateur content is still paid for, there are very few performing completely free - you might see tits n arse for free, but if you want the good stuff then someone is shelling out for it to keep the show going. It's a very different medium, with quite an emphasis on cultivating a community.

I wish there was more paid porn like that being made by Erika Lust. Her x confessions series is great story-telling, as well as actors who really seem to be enjoying themselves properly :)

I started out with sneaking my older brother's porn mags in the 90's, then early 2000's as internet speed grew got into porn vids in my early 20's. About the time of 25 had read plenty of articles/youtube vid seminars from pornstars getting burnt/abused by it all and wondered what it was really doing to them. stopped watching porn for quite a while, as everytime i watched it I couldn't help but think how can I know if this girl was really there because she wanted to be. More and more porn seemed to be focused on abusing/degrading women in it, and I just couldn't feel good about it when that was on my mind. About that time I found more and more people posting self made amateur clips, and so I started seeking that stuff out more and my interest in that grew a bit, I wanted to observe authentic people enjoying each other, that's what I found erotic. Then about 5 years ago, I finally discovered web camming and that became a whole new level of learning for me, and so now my preference is that over anything. Almost never watch actual porn now. it's a bit ironic that I found this post now as I did trawl for a little porn last night on porn hub, and found a clip from this English producer called Ben Dover. I got about 2 mins into it and had to turn it off, the guy was very largely endowed and you could see it hurting her on her face and she went to use her hands on him to slow the thrust down a bit and he slapped it away and said to her quite sternly "don't put your hand in the way" - biggest turn off right there. I just felt sorry for her.

"If theres a God, please give me a sign that this is all just a horrible dream" "I have lost my passion for almost everything in life. Nothing excites me anymore. If Im dead when you read this, know that I was dead when I wrote it" So sad. Sex is such an amazing thing, theres no other feeling like it. Being naked with someone you care about, making them feel good, the huge rush that comes with getting tangled up in each others bodies, .......I cant imagine that ever ceasing to feel good. I will appreciate my play times so much more now, to lose interest in sexual pleasure and indeed, anything else we are privileged to experience as human beings, its not worth thinking about.

The internet is an interesting thing - nothing's done more to increase porn's audience, but also nothing's done more to expose its painful byproducts (to those who are willing to notice). What's the result? Some were never into porn anyway, but for those who are it can introduce discomfort, or ambivalence, or even wilful blindness. For me it is one of many products that I consume, which, the more I think about them, the more I struggle to understand where I fit in the collision of desire, markets, bodies and work. I think that what Koko and others have said though is that the reason some of us spend time on RHP is that it offers some reassurance of real human connection, intimacy and desire, without money and exploitation getting in the way. Although perhaps RHP isn't immune from that either... Just on the idea of 'amateur' or 'homemade' porn being a more ethical alternative to the sort of San Fernando Valley industry porn... I don't know if it's that simple. Yes, some of the 'amateur' porn is being produced (or at the very least, commercialised) on business models that are just as exploitative and industrial as the big websites. But even if it isn't... how am I sure when I watch some grainy vid, that all those who made it are still consenting to its being available, or that coersion was not involved in its making, or even that all those 'performing' were even aware that it would be made public? These are big unanswered questions for me whenever I watch this stuff. It's not to say that I've completely turned myself off watching this kind of porn (or any porn), but it does mean that I wonder a lot more when I watch it (as I do with its glossier cousins).... Thank you a gain for a thought provoking post OP!

So refreshing when you see a female smiling and taking interest in what she's doing. Don't find them that often , but when I do , it's usually good viewing..

Thank you a gain for a thought provoking post OP! I agree with you, I don't think looking at websites version's of 'amateur' is that simple, I've seen plenty of stuff in my exploration for something uncommercialised, where people are trying to pass off as 'amateur' but you soon realise a little into it that it's completely staged. This day and age of modern camera's, a grainy film doesn't mean anything. A little bit of thought, and a genuine amateur could very well produce something a little pro looking. So it does grey the lines a bit as to what is amateur for sure. On top of that I wonder what peoples definition of amateur is...
