Right up until I was 30 I did things, by the book, the good book that is & then when my marriage ended at 30... it all went flying out the window & I've never stepped inside a church since or felt any guilt... thank god! (excuse the pun :)

I read a funny joke today about an anagram for hailed Pope! Tried to post it on another thread but apparently it's not the thing for RHP. I dare anyone to work it out and give me a clue without actually saying it. Other than that I think I'm a militant but even militants have a sense of humour... just as well LOL! Read another post about a sex diplomas given out by the church in Sweden to 14 year olds. Too funny. Ya gotta laugh! Peachy

That hardly implies everydy's doing it with everybody! As an Atheist there is not much reconciling necessary, though I guess I should stop calling out "Oh, my God!". Too bad we don't believe in hell though. As a friend of mine once said: "That's where all the kinky fuckers go".

How could it be that our sexuality be seperate from our spirituality, anymore than our mind from our body.Much of religious doctrine is mis-interpreted - by the stupid, intelligent and just plain ignorant.Life is sense-sational ... fuck the guilt, it will rot you from the inside out.I'd say just be good ... That’s why we have religion however what they teach us about sexuality is a whole lot of bullshit. Religion knew and knows that humans can’t stay away from sex and sensuality that’s how we function, that’s how we populate.Look alone what words are used, what we carry in our minds about sex, it all comes from religion and what they teach us, naughty, dirty, women are sluts, whores and what not. And by giving us the guilt on everything or say most carnal desires, they have as repent, confess to our sins, and feel shitty every time we fuck and enjoy it. I mean.......we are even born with sin......what a lot of bullshit, how can we be born of sin>>>>>>only because we have been produced through sex. There it starts already, a little tiny baby is already full of sin. I am sorry I think it’s just another way to keep the masses in a cages.I don't like the whole business around religion, and that's what it is in my eyes a big, big business.

and one of the things I love about Tibetan Buddhism is the belief that the quickest way to enlightenment is through the practice of Tantra, which of course includes awesome sex with a consort. If you look at some of the images of the Tibetan Buddhist deities you will actually see them ''with consort''.

You might be able to guess that I ummed and arrrghed about making a "throw away" reference to the RC. It's a topic that is anything but light. My intent was to acknowledge, but not labour or linger, on it, hoping then that it wouldn't become the main topic of discussion... On topic, I do know people who have both non-monogamous sex and monothiest religion in their lives... baffles me, but they do it... - Posted from rhpmobile

Sex is energy. You have only so much of energy so how you use it depends on your priorities. You can use it for great sex or in your work or your spirituality. Some people prefer to exclude some activities so that they can concentrate on others. MsPeachy, I hope the new pope cracks down on the errant priests. These priests have broken their trust with their parishioners, especially those that can't defend themselves. Totally unacceptable behaviour for any adult much less someone who is supposed to be a role model/mentor to their community. Freya, I tend to follow the Theravadan tradition which is a bit more stuffy with regards to sexuality. Hence my refusal to have sex with people in committed relationships.Which is ironic as I had offers from couples but not from single women. Who ever said karma doesn't have a sense of humour.

Messo, I think it would have been a good idea to consider the other side of the equation, the victims, with your mention of the RC (stands for Roman Catholic and Royal Commission coincidently), the RC isn't all about the church though. People should do some reading into the overall topics including the reasons behind why the previous Pope quit. The injustice of it all is breath taking, something I could go on about for pages with all the reading I've done in the last few months. There's a public page on facebook, if anyone wants a deeper understanding, message me. Sorry to go on Messo, it can be a touchy subject for us innocents who are on the other side of the equation. I've been blabbing about the RC and my experience of 'care' in the forums quite a lot since I came back on this profile.Moving on... I met my first boyfriend at church hehe! I don't believe in religion but do have faith in a 'God' (greater power). It was something that crossed my mind a lot when I joined RHP with the Mr, but I've always been a rule-breaker. It's a personal belief of mine that when we arrive at judgement time, it will be our own conscience that will be used in the judging. Thank you for your very kind words zu7bcv, I'd like to think so, but don't believe so, they have a history of looking after their own. It's all coming out now though. It's a shame the position is actually deliberately taken advantage of. I like the first paragraph of your post, it's all about balance imo. I hope karma comes along soon enough and starts kissing up to you! Nice profile, pity I'm married HEHE! Some might say I should be committed. ;-DPeachy... it's the weekend!!!

I hate hypocrites, and im afraid all religions are full of them! I have an older brother who is a retired prominent professional person. He is also gay. He has not missed a weekend at church for as long as i can remember, even when he is overseas. He has a dear friend who is also gay, and plays the organ at St Marys Cathedral in Sydney!! I find it hard to understand how they can be so loyal to a religion that doesnt accept them, but they have their own beliefs and reasons.

There are a lot of good clergymen, women and followers of a particular faith. Unfortunately, there are also a few bad apples among them and we cannot tell the difference easily. In some cases, we can easily spot the frauds but in most cases, it will be hidden for many years. I read this interesting book titled Saints and Psychopaths. It talks about cults and I could not believe how people could be so gullible and fall for them, hook, line and sinker. People are looking for happiness and meaning and this can be taken advantage of by some people for their own personal benefit. The sad thing is that the people who take advantage or others are not wholly bad. They can have a lot of good qualities (or perhaps they use it as a camouflage) so people can't easily believe that they could do something bad.Human nature doesn't help either. People from a particular community tend to close ranks when one of their members come under threat, even if they did something wrong. There have been many cases of parents telling the constables that their kids are good boys/girls and couldn't have done what they were accused of doing. Same thing occurs for AFL clubs or religious organisations. While the RC is not supposed to target a particular group or organisation, most of the reports highlighted by the media seems to imply the catholic church. The other denominations have better PR or the stigma has stuck to the catholic church and it is not easy to recover from.Ding26, it does not matter as long as your brother is happy and it is not hurting him or his friend. They might find peace in what they are doing, even if the church does not accept their sexuality at this time. There are some good things in the Bible as well as some horrible things too. Choose the good and discard the rest.

And people using phrases like these as an excuse for their actions (such as hate crimes) make me sick. Even the fact that a woman lies with a man out of wedlock is frowned upon. I'm sure there's a verse for that too. Then there's bastards (children born out of wedlock) who are sinners simply because of the people they were conceived by. It's attitudes like this that has had sex frowned upon and swept under the carpet as a sin rather than trying to deal with it as a reality and instead of trying to make gays (for eg) feel shame, allow them to understand the way they feel and deal with it. To better understand sex would be a good thig in my mind but I'm incrediblt wary about who should be put in charge of any such class! The 'God' I'd like to believe in is a loving God. I've always loved the quote "For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should have everlasting life". It gave me a sense that I was important. It wasn't until a couple of years ago when WildReturns pointed out the effect on Mary that I thought to look at it any differently. Maybe it had served it's purpose for me by then. Oh yes, there is a post further back about gay men who attend church weekly.Peachy

It does tell me how to treat that person - with love, respect and intimacy (as Cassandra put it). It also teaches trust and how not to break it. Trust is hard to get but easy to lose. Once lost, it is not easy to get back.

Just stumbled across this thread which i find very interesting as i have a fair bit of knoweldge about various Spiritual traditions and sexuality. cool question and i'll give my 2 cents worth My answer to the question is simple yes it is easy reconciling Sexuality and spirituality because they are the same thing ( Using the word religion is a bit harder because it comes pretty loaded with some poor misintepretations in my opinion. Religion particuarly the big 3 Abrahamic religions Judaism Christianity, Islam is a really bad game of chinese whispers. It's hard to take people seriously who espouse there religion and then go back as i have done and look at the original meaning of words and discover that "Sin" is actually hebrew for "Shine Sacrlet " "Adam" "Eve", the whole use of metaphors is referring to how the subconscious ,conscious minds and nervous system intereract and has absolutely nothing to do with doing supposedly "bad" things like having sex that God Supposedly judges us for. The God dominated religions all worship, Phallus symbols of some descriptions The word testimant and testimony comes from the Jews of the old testament who swore oaths by laying a hand on each others dicks because the original word testicle means to witness as in witness the sex act.Dont know but that Sounds pretty Gay to me. I'm keeping it brief but any of the spirtual traditions that tie fertility and worship together particuarly Godess worship make far more sense to me and i am not kidding when i say there were heaps of traditions that literally worshipped pussy in the hope that there crops would be blessed and bountiful. And if your doing it right the Godess Should be doing plenty screaming out for her equal and apposing opposite diety in prayer as you say with Oh GOD , oh GOD , Of God yes.

The purpose of the post wasn't to debate the diabolical acts done in the name of religion (everyone can name a dozen, each), but to gain an insight into the personal reflection of those who hold a religious conviction (perhaps even a faith or spirituality) and enjoy non-vanilla sex. Most religions do have views on when sex should occur, such as only when it is within marriage & only between a man & a woman. In today's "climate" it is almost unheard of for a single person in their 20's for example to abstain from sex until they are married. This belief is preached relentlessly in the "born again stream".So, how does a regular church goer reconcile this part of his or her life with their sex life. Doesn't matter if it's vanilla or not, they're not supposed to be having sex full stop until they're married. How does a believer, doesn't matter what religion, reconcile their sex life with their beliefs when they contradict each other?Faith or spirituality, which is where I would be more aligned, doesn't need to be reconciled with my sex life. They are two separate issues.

Yes I feel they contradict each other because the ‘purpose of the instruction’ -if you like - has been lost in translation – spiritually speaking; especially in the west and in the Christian religion. I do also agree with you Religious predjudice has wrought huge confusion, guilt and shame – and the most horrifying lack of self love, acceptance, worth etc, and too equality of care and respect for the ‘other’. In many ways I have needed to reconcile my faith/spirituality with my sex life. I tend to hold very high values when it comes to both – intimacy and respect being 2. I do not however have any conflict with ice-cream flavor - though I've my favorites.Love@ LittleRedEngine .... stop peeking you I'm deepening intimacy and getting to know myself more

If anyone thought religion was here to help people, they are right. It is like a pyramid scheme. The people at the top gets the benefit while those below do the work. In order to lock the followers in, they have to control them, speech, mind and body. The church controls the soul while the nobles/king controls the mundane living. It was a working system until the crumbled under the reformation and age of enlightenment. Some religions actually tell their parishioners how to have sex. They teach them the do and don't. Really? They get people so wrapped up in the form that they forget the spirit of why they do things. Sex is another way to use power over someone else. I had that experience before and it was not good. I believe in a relationship between a couple. I do not see the difference between male-male, female-female, male-female couples except for the Y chromosome. More than 2 in a relationship starts to feel like a committee. If anyone has been in a committee, it is a miracle anything gets done. There seems to be a lot of polyamourous people around. If they can make it work, great on them. People have said I think too much and over analyse things. They say sex is sex. Just go with it rather than talk myself out of it.

When it comes to sexual mores, compared with all the incest, bestiality and various other eyebrow raising shenanigans my family got up to, my seaweed bed-post notched with its selection of nymphs and male lovers looks positively vanilla*.*Ok there was one time when I turned into a horse to mate, but I'm not proud of that.
