lmfao.. I know exactly what you mean... My son had a 21st birthday party using the theme from "Animal house" thankyou very much.. lolz... venue at my place... well.. actually lots of 21 year old women showed up wearing (if you can cal lit that) tight short school uniforms... I spent the whole evening whacking myself with a wooden spoon just to keep myself under control. Where's a Mistress when you really need one to keep you under control! hehe. They're just haing fun. the younger set seem so much more accepting of variances in sexuality. I'm very impresssed by their maturity. Hugs Gaz

sigh... you really don't think the generation before us thought the same things about us 70s and 80s kids? And the generation before that, and the generation before that? I got news for you kiddo :P lol "The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress." This is an extract from a sermon preached by Peter the Hermit in A.D. 1274! "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." This quote is attributed to Socrates by Plato Both quotes, and there are many others, help to show that adults throughout history have been alarmed by the behavior of young people. Fortunately, civilization has not yet come to an end because of their behaviour… what a surprise! :P

I was a teenager in the 80's and hated the pop scene, I was the mulleted "wish I was born in led zeppelin" kinda kid! I must say now though that I quite like the old 80's music, it's more complex than I once thought (wasn't enough guitar in it to keep me happy). I guess the 70's crew thought I was a dag for liking the Zep too! Basically it's all been done. The only slightly interesting and unique modern music is actually Aussie Hip Hop. I think it's the folk music of the noughties. Just so long as we're all having fun and not hurting others, live and let live

Mate, maybe it was where I grew up..but they way kids behave now my generation would never have dared to!! COUNTRY...3 of my best friends were raped when kids...and I copped a pedo trying to interfere with me when I was 11...so get off your high horse. My point was that it's happening more now than it was back then...alot of the badness in the world i attribute to the Internet.Take beheadings of innocent foreign nationals on video...if no one had access to that media then there is no audience.Same goes for Internet porn...why are 12yr olds having "Rainbow Parties"??? Because they can look it up on their iPhones & find it out.I found out when my best friends 12yr daughter called me begging to come get her from one of these parties...the daughter of my friend who was raped at 12 by two scumbags in Sydney. When you're sitting on the tram, seeing 3 girls under 15 dressed like prostitues flashing themselves at another kid no older than 12 with his filthy feet on the seats...it's hard to remember ever growing up with that kind of behaviour when I was a kid!!!!!

whitehawk... do you actually read and reflect or take on board anything that anyone writes to you in reply to your posts because you certainly don't seem to.....kids are no different today than they were yesterday and if internet is to blame then that would be our generation's bloody fault for inventing it in the first place!!!!!... kids are just using what's available to them and, yes, even though no one wants to admit it, they learn their behaviour from US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm honestly going to stop writing on your threads because I feel like I'm wasting my time ..... starting..... 3... 2... 1... NOW.

hate to tell ya.....but the behaviour of today's youth is mainly to do with the sometimes lax parenting of the original 80's teens and the litigious society that we live in where nothing is ever your fault, your responsibility or your problem. But have no fear.....the pendulum will swing back the other way...and the parents will be the embarrasing ones again.Just my opinion...BJxxxbtw whitehawk....great to see you still whinging...

I dont think there are any more or less rockspiders on the planet... certainly we had a pit bull terrior and a rockspider in our street in a small country town back in the 1960's. Also gangs of teenagers did rome our streets bashing people up. Hell we used to shoot each other with air rifles.. at least those are now illegal. I just think with the current access to media we get better access to "news"..... and we get it instantly. Maybe that generates a perception that there is a difference in degree of anti-social behaviour. Hugs GAz

Whitehawk77: bad stuff has always happened - but mostly we didn't know about it because we didn't have the capability to share information so easily. Most of the kiddie-fiddling of catholic priests being exposed now was from when we were kids - and earlier. But in days gone by the church could've hushed it up, or it would've run in one or two papers in the country that found out - but now it is put on the wire by a news agency and every paper in the world has instant access to it.Throughout history the older generations have become the next generation in power, and thus the next 'establishment' to be railed against by the younger generations who see things slightly differently.I think on the whole that kids are more namby-pamby than they used to be (and I daresay that growing up as a kid i wasn't as tough as my grandad - he came from balmian and bondi back before the yuppies took over)

All those activities/crimes mentioned in the first post obviously did occur years, even centuries back, but with the strength of the media these days obviously it is brought to the attention of the public a lot more these days, and with the population growth it is obviously going to happen more often, even though it is completely unacceptable.Sydneyboy hit the nail on the head and especially with the bit about Catholic priests. Hell, going back to the days of the Roman Empire there was one Emperor who had a very public relationship with a 15 year old boy, whom he married at 18 and later died aged 19, I forget his name but I was reading about it last week on wikipedia. This sort of thing has been going on since forever and will unfortunately continue to do so. When the harshest punishment available is imprisonment it's not exactly the most terrible deterrent.I do however feel that as each generation passes it houses more arseholes and disrespectful people. Look at the way youths treat their elders. There is no respect almost and with the politically correct brigade taking rights to discipline children from parents and teachers, kids stepping more and more over the line knowing they are untouchable (who gives a fuck about a detention, and this is coming from me), things will only get worse.Didn't really like the way you described kids who wear skinny jeans, sure, imo they look like shit, but calling them gay or whatever is homophobic and there are a lot of people who are gay/bi/bicurious that use this website, and was a bit senseless.

It's not just the youth of today that show a lack of respect.I couldnt count how many times I have held a door open for an older person and not even been acknowledged for it.And don't get me started on those farkin motorised buggies ffs! When governments started coming into people's homes and telling how they could and could not parent...the world started turning to shit. But I wont let any of that change me....I am proud of my manners and friendly nature...and they have served me well. When people comment on how nice it is that my son is well mannered...I say...he should be...I taught him that way.Just my opinion...BJxxx

totally offended by your suggestion whitehawk that gay is bad thing. and u accuse todays youth of being disrespectful, ironic really!!!!if you bother to look into the statistics in regards to what our youth are exposed to you maybe you will see technology has actually helped improve our lives but it is parents who need to take the responsibility for their behavior and actions. i was taught/had it beaten into me manners and respect as a child, it was my parents job to instill me with proper values and a healthy mind. and now i do the same with my kids.i do agree somewhat that youth of today can be rude, but do u blame a dog for attacking when thats what its been taught, no you blame the owner.and the fashion is not so bad, the 80's were happy, fun times just wait til we hit a rebirth of the 90's are you going to whinge about grunge and dark morbid colours. you know ben harper says it really well " if you dont like my fire dont come around, coz im gonna burn one down".....or something your may have been told by your mumma "if you havnet got anything nice to say, dont say anything at all" lighten up sunshine, coz ur not perfect!!!

I do agree with you Charly776 that parents are mainly responsible for instilling the right morals and ethics into their children, but at the same time life is not made easy for them when the government etc put laws in place that stop you from slapping a child. Sure, it's never nice to be slapped, but words can only do so much. I'm 23, and my dad slapped me a few times when I over-stepped the mark, and that's when I knew not to do it again. It's the same with the educational punishment system, teachers have no power and kids walk all over them. It was like this to a certain extent when I was at school, but there were some teachers who still had that authority that you didn't dare mess with. When I hear some of the stories my brothers come out with, it is ridiculous how much kids get away with. The power has been taken away from those in places of authority and is severely weakened. Then of course there are also the parents who do everything they can to teach a kid wrong and right, but they still end up being a bad apple.

actually apparently you are allowed to give ur kids a smack as long as it is below the hips i think it was. my sis in law works for dhs.yes teacher have no power but we send our kids to school at 5 or 6 years old, this is old enough for them to have some manners and respect taught to them already.

Yup, I'm slowly beating it out of my 17 year old that it's not his lot in life to be handed everything, be rude to elders, stand up for older people on public transport, open doors occasionally for older people, be respectful of parents and care about other people's feelings.Shame some older people put all these kids in the same basket - not all 80's kids were spoilt rotten, some actually grew into caring adults, pity the 90's kids were products of advertising/too much television/americanisms - they're the ones that need a good old fashioned thrashing and shake up.

Asses are for smacking....thats why they are so well padded!!Well...thats what I reckon anyway! When my boy was little....if he did the wrong thing....I would make him go and get the paddle (its a wooden spatula thingie)...then bring it to me....then turn around. He would get one swipe....then was made to put it back. There was no anger....no whinging....he knew that it would hurt...but not as much as if I let him do the wrong thing. He stopped needing the paddle at about 4...and still knows that my final answer is my final answer. As he is getting older though....I am teaching him how to debate and state his case in a rational way.Its working. He gets a say....but still respects my decisions...because he has had a say in it.Loving discipline is less abusive than no discipline at all. Just my opinion...BJxxx

well fashion, hhmm lets tackle the impossible first... fashion to a teenager is whatever's ""in"", at the time, sometimes theyre lucky and there s a few styles to choose from, sometimes theyre not. A person either wears what they like or what they think looks good cause no ones told them otherwise!! Every generation has them, every future gen will. there s no escaping the fashion merry go round.!!! just ignore the ferel ones and concentrate on yourself l say!!! not that lm a fashion expert, lm actually one in a small percentage of women who hate clothes shopping!!! not that lm a slouch when it comes to dressing either..lol.. l check myself in the mirror and if it looks good, l wear it, if it dosnt l change it, simple, not l know!!! Opinions vary to the same degree clothes do, everyones got different ones to make up their personalities, some are borderline psychotic but u always have the choice to walk away, let them have it.

Agree with MissBJ about the amount of times older people have been just plain rude to me.....on the flipside some have been extremely gracious when helped, I guess it really boils down to the standards that people are bought up with. As the father figure to a couple of teen girls it never ceases to amaze me how well adjusted they are in this crazy world. They are polite (except sometimes not to their mother lol), a lot of fun to be around and actually teach me things. All we can do is try to instill politeness to others, decent morals and codes of behaviour. As for the internet maybe a bit of parental supervision would go a long way. The computer is passworded and is also in the living area where an eye can be kept on what they are up to. Password control is a great disciplinary tool lol. Whitehawk77, the cretins of the world have always been there, they just seem more prominent these days in our information age. We all do stupid things when we are younger and if you ask Mrs just2 I still do!! As for metro's and butt cracks hanging out I wouldn't mind betting that when they look at photos down the track they will cringe. Never got into the eighties look myself, too interested in surfing to worry about trying to follow fashion and look good. Oh for the rose coloured glasses of nostalgia

Monkey see monkey do.kids pick up on verbal and nonverbal expressions...Parents have to inculcate moral and ethical codes to their kids from an early age,and lead by example..not being hypocritical in the process, parents were young once and mademistakes..in their youth its part of growing up....its been like that since the dawn on man...The thing is today is everything is brought out into the open and talk about.sure all crime is on the increase due to so manyfactors even with the breakdown of family life...which as put more pressure on single parents to point that government are forcing us to go out to work...causing the latch key generation to increase...thus less time for parents to spend time with kidsof course this differs for many....Then some parents have different thoughts from each other on how to rear their kids.. to ...which can impact their kids....they then get confused as to whats what...How many parents agree on the same thing as kids are concerned due to seperate living arrangements...with discipline with love being thrown out the door by some.xoxox heymumma
