I love how there's a scientific term for everything. You get hardons in your sleep, if you wake up from a deep sleep quickly at the right time you'll wake up with wood :)Also as justjuice pointed out if you have a full bladder you can wake up with an erection too. Not as much fun, the urge to pee can be very distracting especially when your partner is on top bouncing on your bladder LOLThe great news is that when you arrive late for work you can say to your boss/coworkers "Sorry I'm late, I suffer from NPT and had to have it treated this morning"...

According to medical evidence, on average a male will have between 4-5 erections a night. Some of this is triggered by REM sleep (where dream sequences cause the erection) while at other times it can me caused by bodily reactions eg full bladder. And then for some, ths can extend to a full blown wet dream - oh to relive my teenage years again!!

Its supposed to be something to do with the body sending a regular blood supply to the penis during deep sleep to keep you healthy. A reason why we might seem keen to put it to use at this time, might be because our rested mind has temporarily cleared some of the trivial stresses of our ordinary life routine and we wake up more in touch with our animal selves.
