May be taking things to seriously

November 07 2009

Has a regular reader of the forums ive learned that many are having to deal with issues that can/have affect them inmany aspects which can /have caused them have doubts and to question themselves as to why ? then blame themself by thinking that it was their fault...then question their own self worth. Then list can go on..to how the mind can take over.and not always for the best. Therefore i hope that it does'nt seem an over reactive thing by me by suggesting to books to read. The first one is Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars...gives insight on how the both sexes think, feel and suchthe second one is Self - Esteem.who else has found a good read..be it anything?                       xoxox

Touches on self esteem, healthy boundaries, and suggests an answer to the oft moaned complaint "why do nice guys finish last", the answer being self sabotage. There are also some very good resources on the Internet, goggle is marvelous! Great idea, the resourse thread!

however, we also have people with character disorders (think psychopaths, but not so extreme), and I doubt they're going to go read self help books when they already think they're perfect, have an extremely exaggerated sense of entitlement (ie. expects to get Perrier Jouet, but can only afford VB and get really upset and doesn't understand why she/he can't get Perrier), take no responsibility for any of their misfortunes blaming everyone and eveything but themselves.   They never learn from their mistakes (of course not, they're perfect, they didn't make the mistake, everyone else did), constantly whining about how EVERY person they've hooked up with has done them wrong, completely oblivious to the fact that they're the common denominator in all this. "I'm not the one who makes bad character judgements/choices, ALL men/women/donkies/guinea pigs are bastars/bitches/not nice, it's the truth since I always end up with them".

Hey heymumma, that's great advice, and "ALL" of the guys and girls should follow it.  I've been through the "Taking myself too seriously" stage, it lost me a few friendships with some very beautifuls girls and caused me no end of pain.  I've read a few books like you've said and even taken a few self improvement courses over the years, and I think I'm a better person for it and find that wemon find me a lot more attractive these days.  Look forward to seeing what others have to share with us on this topic,RHG

I've got a library of self help books. The only help they've ever provided me is to help fill the bookshelf. Nope. The answer you seek is in the breeze. find a nice spot in the sun, close your eyes and breathe deeply... turn your head towards the breeze and concentrate on breathing.... breathe in.. breathe out. That's the essense of life. Everything else is unimportant.   Hugs Gaz

(warning, warnig, danger will robinson - generalisations may be made, if they don't apply to you, good, don't get upset, warning warning *waving arms thing*)of the people I know who are right into the self help book thing, I find they tend to wallow over the things that cause them pain, so they spiral down. Whenever i've browsed through those books, it seems many of them serve more as a way to set the reader up to buy more self-help books - almost like an unwritten pact between the authors to drive sales between each others readership. If it helps you, great - but I feel like there should be a government mandated smack on the chops after reading each one with an "now look at you life, and what you read - did this actually help" question following.

with most (but not all) of what you say...yes, the self-help books DO seem to encourage readers to buymore of that author's books...and those books do seem to be repetitious after a while...blah, blah, blah...but there is nothing wrong with analyzing (analysing??) your life to death (as you put it)...we are always seeking answers tothe "what if..." questions as well as the "if only..."by following possible scenarios and then discounting them, do we allow ourselves to grow andmove forward, stronger and more positive in our outlook...cheersand btw trish, perving on my butt too many times may see u incur spanking penalties...hehe...go straight to miss_honeys immediately, i do believe she has just the thing for u...gigglesJose...>>>...wonders now about ice cubes...

Well, I think anonymous sex is also very soothing as meditation for taking my mind off trouble. Still concentrate on breathing... breathe in grunt.... and breathing out... "Oh god"... breathing in....   Hugs Gaz

When I'm stressed or upset I like to listen to some music on my itunes, whether it's a song by The Fray or something a little more upbeat/fast paced.I have a few books that I've bought based on motivating yourself etc, but haven't actually got around to reading them in their entirety.  Which, is because I lack motivation.  It's not hard to read a book, I just tend to get a bit lazy sometimes.
