Lottery Wins...

July 16 2016

As per Lily's recent topic about winning money, if you had won a considerable amount, would you tell anyone about it ?You would possibly be overawed by the occasion and feel like telling the world, but in reality, would you ? As I Touch made mention, winning money caused the loss of some previous friendship. Do you think you might also have that happen ? Not to mention the security implications of making it known you've hit the good times. Then you'd get the slew of charities (and others) suddenly finding your phone number ringing you non-stop. To say, or not to say, that is your choice.

...Porsche Boxter then getting ego plates that read ''I WON IT'' would be just a tad ostentatious? Naaa....outside of a few toys that would be hard to hide, I go anonymous. Fortunately I've already flicked my ''9 to 5'' so wouldn't have to lie about keeping my day job!

Quoting 'Summersolstice' Only tell those I'd be wanting to share my winnings with, so about a handful of people. On one of the morning shows where you can win serious cash over the phone, they not only yell out your full name and suburb on live TV, but then put that info on their Fb page. I would seriously hate having my whole neighbourhood know I won money. I agree - that is not a cool situation. I can understand the publicity viewpoint from the Channels perspective, but equally I wouldn't want my private details known. S'pose though, that's one of the many conditions you sign up for when you call in for this. Tall

I'd set my kids up with a nice house each and a healthy bank account. Get a new ute and build a house. Would I quit my job? No. I'd keep working full time. - Posted from rhpmobile

The amount we won, or our share at least, wasn't enough to have people chasing us for money, but U had major concerns about what would happen if we had won a huge amount. To explain that, we had to wait 2 days to find out how many winners there were, won on Saturday, couldn't find out how many winners until the newsagency opened on Monday, this is before internet or as good as. So I got the call from my husband who was at work, asked me if I was sitting down, if not, I might want to. Said we'd won lotto and I think I dropped the phone, I know a lot of adjectives came out of my way. I thought he was joking to start with. So when he hung up, I had mixed emotions. We were living and working in a unique place. I loved it there, great place to safely bring kids up, lots of sport, awesome lifestyle. So I was worried he'd want to leave, move somewhere on the coast, house, yacht lol all that, but I didn't want to leave what we had. Had we been the only winners, we could have won high 600,000's I guess. Back then, that was a fortune, houses were only worth a quarter what they are now. That sorted itself out because there were 7 other winners. My other concern was if we won that large amount, you need to be thinking about the future, planning for retirement etc but you'd feel like you had to give some to family, charities etc, but where do you stop? Where do you draw the line and make sure you're not giving it all away, especially with extended family? I do think too much money in one lump sum can be overwhelming. My advice to anyone in that situation would be to invest it for at least a year, or 2 if you can, and take your time to think seriously about what you will do with it 😃

If I won a large amount, no I probably wouldn't tell anyone, just give some to charity. Friends might wonder about the new Ferrari though 👅👅

Many many moons ago when the earth was green (and I had hair and teeth) (circa 1974) I told all of my school friends that I was getting a brand new honda motorcycle. They all gathered around me excitedly to hear all of the juicy details re the brand new honda motorcycle. When I told them I wasnt going to actually buy one and that I was going to win it in an upcoming radio competition, a few eyes rolled, a few of them laughed and the rest just scoffed. They all wandered off snickering stuff and giggling, one was even making a fake motorbike sound but it sounded more like a nasty fart than a brand new honda motorcycle BBrrrBBrrrrrrFFertttt putt putt poot poot. Fast forward 3 weeks and I win the brand new honda motorcycle, wooo hoooo!Hooley fucking dooley I was accused of being a liar and a cheat or that I had a relative working at the radio station fer fucks sakes hahaha (thanks Uncle Frank) :DGuess I had the last laugh hey :D VaVaaa bRoooom! Anyway as for telling anyone if I had had a major lottery windfall, well, there would be some I would want to tell and some I would really want to tell hahahah 🙉🙈🙊

Only if, I could be that much lucky to win a huge jackpot, my family would be the only people that I would tell about the winning! No friends (close and general) of mine need to know about it, nor would I go all new with the material stuff such as, car, clothes, shoes, etc. this is a tough reality and there are many crime addicts out there, who would not hesitate to make you give up your fortune at their gun point! So no, I would not tell everyone about it, as I have no interest in creating a life or death situation for myself! 😬😬 - Posted from rhpmobile

Are best left unsaid. Silance is golden, as they say. I don't think it would be a wise choice, to go around discussing lotto win, especially if it was a huge amount of money. Ms Foxy

Discussing a large win, would make one quite vulnerable to be taken advantage off. As my Nan used to say "The best kept secret is never told". So, nope I would not say a thing. If its invested wisely know one would have to know. People would only question when one starts doing things out of their everyday life behavior. Ms Foxy

We moved into town about nine months ago, been out bush for the last decade or so and from there, walked straight into a shit fight, long story short, we have around a dozen kids aged from 14 yr to 19 yr, rat bags that were living on the streets, they have robbed us, ripped us off, tagged the power box, bought by the scruff of the neck here by the local police, I said to them "while these kids are out and about you do your thing, but when they are here in our home, they are under our wings, don't do to them what you did to me " The senior officer, a woman, looked me in the eyes for a moment, then nodded and said "ok " the other two young blokes constables muttered a bit, but she ruled the roost and about six months ago, haven't had any trouble related matters with them since to now. No old school rules amongst the kids, one is fried, they all run a muck, but each of them are prime candidates for becoming institutionalised, petty thieves inside don't fair too well, they would more than most likely end up on antidepressants, anti psychotic and sleeping tablets, working in the industries cabinet shop, metal or other things for about a dollar an hour, and get real use to living that way. No such thing as ignorance is bliss, a sense for care of duty, we opened our home for the kids to come sleep, eat, take shelter in a safe environment with our family and none of them are in jail we haven't failed, some of our stuff returned by some of the kids that appreciate the purpose we care to. If we won some bucks and didn't go telling at least a few about the town, we'd be prime candidates for early morning raids by the local command thinking 'all flash' we are drug dealers and that would fuck everything up, better off without it all and tucked away for a future, yeah no we'd spend it on whatever was needed, anyone who needed it. Imagine winning $700 million US in the new sydnciates that has opened in Australia recently. Can't even imagine that much money I suppose I would tell a very small select few friends... Because I would pay off their mortgages and help them financially. My family too of course. I most likely would not tell them the actual amount that I had won though. Then I would holiday around the Carribean and the Greek Islands. Hire a yatch and fly some friends over. Barcelona is a cool city so probably spend a few months chilling out there as well. After about 12 months of travelling indulgence I might think about what else I would do. I desperately need a holiday right about now! 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

I would say to hubby everyone is packing up and we are going on a holiday for a few weeks so we can slowly work out the details of who will be told and who won't be. As much as I say I would love to win lotto - too much money can be a bad thing. And yep - Maddo and Tara - fab thing you're doing. Truly x
