My daughter got engaged this week to her girlfriend of two years. They plan a long engagement of 4 years. Hopefully by that time they can marry legally.

Congratulations to your daughter and your new daughter in-law If only the powers that be knew how much extra cash they would make on new marriage licenses

And all power to your daughter and her fiancee - and to you as mum!   This issue drives me nuts... love is love... age, sex, race, religion - none of it should matter.   I wish them all the love and happiness in the world x

Yes I will sent you the same....brave young women. What is wrong with the Australian politicians, dont they listien to the public. I would say most people are for it then against.   So the minority of haters wins...how can this be? Australia is not a religious country,or I am wrong? again who is against it???? Jesus Fucking Christ, what is wrong with letting people love each other. l I am sending your daughter and daughter in law my love.

Thank god some parts of America are now recognising this and legalising accordingly......bring it on Australia, I say...   love is love   and trust me Id rather see two gay people in love make a commitment to each other, (that is recognised for what it is ....that being two people who want to make a legalised commitment to each other !!!) than what I saw this week at the Family Law Court - I witnessed plenty of people - male and females. who once held a marriage license together and who once claimed to have loved each other, spitting, bickering, name calling, swearing and hating each other outwardly and all being encouraged and egged on by their respective lawyers...squabbling where they once loved.... and sadly I was one of those parties...   I wish them both nothing but good health and enduring happiness and for fuck sake Julia just because you chose not feel the need to have a marriage certificate (good for you, thats your rite..) please recognise and allow for the fact that some people do !!! - btw gays vote !!!

Awesome news! All the congrats your way My darling sister in England married her girlfriend last year and they are as happy and in love as Mr Inaddition and I are - they deserve nothing less.I hope Australia (and Queensland especially given Mr Newman's recent actions with the civil unions) can follow suit!

Congratulations to the happy couple. We seem to have been adopted as parental figures by a couple of young lesbian women, both of whom are wonderful role models for young people. Heterosexual people often forget that being gay is a hard road in life, discrimination is common, alienation by families still occurs. No one chooses their sexuality, leagalising marriage is an important step towards ending discrimination.

Hope it happens sooner rather than later.....If they have not done it yet considering a legislative change is all that's needed- then I guess a referendum is in order.4 years is not a long engagement :) we are going for a record- 11 years so far lol!!!Cass xxx

its long past time that same sex couples can share the same rights and the same recognition that 'traditional' male/female couples take for granted. lets hope its sooner, rather than later, that you get to share this wonderful occasion with them, its a milestone every couple should be able to experience, and that every family be able to celebrate!

Politicians are very vote sensitive with issues like this. Gay Marriage is a vote changer for those against it. It wouldn't matter how great a job a politician was doing ,the moment they said they were going to support gay marriage the forces of "Moral Control" mobilise. A great example was the ad that Bob Katters party ran against Campbell Newman in the QLD state election when Campbell had said he wasn't against Gay Marriage. It was all very sad & to a degree- Disgusting. So much for free speech & thought. See how The Tea Party is influencing American politics yet only have a small voter base.Gotta love the people who profess to love God-their version though. Congrats to the Happy Couple. At least there happy, those against gay marriage are just sad.
