  LOL..that's the classic vision of swinger's parties to the general public..even today. We have never been to such a party, they were probably left back in the 60's & 70's, but yes they did happen. I worked with an older gent, now passed on : ( who was in the scene in the early 70's along with his then wife. He recounted stories of the key party days. Sometimes house keys & sometimes these parties according to him took place in caravan parks...everyone separated but really didn't have to travel far...just across a muddy camping ground! haha. He also had stories of some of the then underground swinger's clubs where you really had to be in the know to get in...one was in a Brisbane warehouse area (now upmarket residential apartments). Wouldn't it be good to time travel...just to see what it was really like???

Having spent a fairly large chunk of time in caravan parks and roadside stops recently. I have observed a large number of very sociable grey nomads who congregate in large groups in these places. Maybe they have more than wine and hip replacements in common

  I lived through the sixties but don't remember bowls with keys at parties..Mind you I was still in primary school....It must have pre-dated "no means no"...otherwise you would have no where to sleep (your bed taken by someone else);Would be interested to know how it worked.RegardsMr. SR
