It got me!

January 31 2013

I just had to share the funny incident that happened to me this morning. It just goes to show you should always be aware of your surroundings! I decided to go for a bike ride along the foreshore where I live this morning. I always like to wear headphones when I exercise because it helps to keep me pumped. The bad weather from the past week in QLD has caused a lot of damage/beach erosion in my area as well as really high swells and tides. There is one particular part of the bike path I ride along that is protected by a brick wall that stops high tides and rough seas from flooding the Esplanade. It was a high tide this morning when I was out riding. There were a group of workmen working on the wall because the bad weather had damaged it. There was a family riding in front of me with small children, so I had to go very slow at this particular section of the bike path. I was not paying attention to the fact the whole bike path was wet and that there was puddles on the road next to the bike path and I also had my earphones in so I did not hear the waves breaking on the rocks. Out of nowhere a massive wave broke against the rocks and the force pushed the wave to break up and over the wall right on top of where I was riding. This causes a large amount of salt water to come down right on top of me saturating me and my poor bike. I squealed like a girl which of course caused all the workmen to look at me and then they all started laughing. It was quite embarrassing but also really funny so I didn't really mind. It was also a good way to cool off on a hot day. Needless to say on my way back home I rode on the other side of the road away from that particular part of the bike path. Taby x

I know you like to exercise but i need to give you some advice hear if you havn't received it already - WASH THE BIKE!Seriously, salt water will kill it in about 2 months time and you will be up for a new one.Wash it really well with plenty of fresh water and even detergent. Then buy a can of Inox / WD40 / or whatever brand water repellant you can find, and empty about half the can all over the gears and any other part that moves!

Great advice luvitruf, you would do well Senorita-taby to take on this advice and act fast as the rust will start forming in days, jsk
