I'm sitting in the medical center's waiting room.

October 30 2012

I'm having a sugar tolerance test. You fast for twelve hours then they take blood. You drink some glucose syrup, wait an hour then they take blood. You wait another hour then they take blood. They're trying to ascertain whether or not I have diabetes. It's not a matter of if it's a matter of when. Getting old sucks. I had a joyflight a couple of weeks ago, the one I had won in the father's day raffle. I was really looking forward to it. I had been a recreational pilot when I was young and single but it's been a lot of years and I didn't stop to think what effect four G's would have on my damaged spine. I absolutely loved it but then I could hardly walk for days and missed work on the monday. So if you're getting on in years, like me, tell me, does your head and heart keep writing cheques that your body can't cash?

I came off the Mx bike a few weeks ago, that wasn't pretty and considering my current low bone density was pretty lucky I didn't do some major damage.Got some shearing to do very soon, and considering I have spent the majorityof the year sitting on the lounge with my dud foot, I'm the heaviest and unfittestI've ever been, and I'm guessing I'm gunna pay bigtime. So yep, know exactly where your coming from.Cheers Felonious

Was very active right up to about 10yrs ago when I moved from the field into the office. Before then I could run the city-to-surf in 90mins and not get puffed being on my feet all day walking around a job site for 12hrs+. Now, a 5 minute brisk walk up a hill gets me a little out of breath and needing to slowdown. Have to start exercising at home to keep up to the youngster. ET xox

I feel your pain.....I still ride my MX bike...and pay for it in spades the next few days after. I've had a couple of discs removed from my back after a few injuries......the mind is willing but the body has some city miles on it now.   They say 'you're only as young as the person you feel'......perhaps I need someone younger to feel then?

Jensman, We really look forward to our 3 yearly Colonoscopy, a really nice lime flavoured enigma and oh yummm that feeling! A Tip, Allways ask for the first appointment in the morning so you can warm up the instruments for any of your mates that may be following that day. The very least you can do for them.

yep and what is absolutely fabulous is that this wonderfull system will quite happily take your money to fix you until you run outa money of course then you become a statistic.....that being said they have had most cures since the 50s,but its not very profitable to fix people...just keep buying those pills mate you"ll be right....(insert sarcasm)....sorry couldnt help myself...

I dont think I am old. I dont feel old. Yes I have to go for multitudes of yearly tests, I can no longer do the splits, I need a trolley to move heavier items these days and the arthritis in my knee from too many years in the shearing shed is a bit of a pain at times, the blood pressure is too high now but all in all... I feel ageless...does that make sense?

Sometime my body and brain compete My brain makes appts my body cant keep My boobs say: listen brain , your just a twit That size ten bra will squash my tits No please dont say yes, to that hot young thing The ambulance they will have to ring. No no , stop trying to get my legs up behind my head or I will have to spend a week in bed. My back is twisted, my twat is dry, my hair is grey, and eyes cant see Last time I laughed I did a pee. I rode that horse and then I fell , I hit the ground with such a thump I am black and blue on my saggy rump. Dont make me doggy it hurts my knees, and anal god no! with piles like peas. Now listen Brain your OLD as you can see , your rose coloured glasses are killing me!

Sure thing about getting older is your brain won't take into account the depredations you have put your body through "way back when".   Ha ha ha Tuscan love the way you express yourself.   Oh and Coasteride "they" have a cure?. For what? Diabetes? Cancer? Dodgy diet leading to obeseity and high blood pressure? Mental illness? Being a bit paranoid and conspiacy theorist there? Oh and this is Australia and you can walk into a Hospital Emergency Dept and be treated for nothing!   Mike

As a West Aussie bloke I grew up playing AFL. As I was a country boy and it was big in our town, I played Hokey as well. When I came to Perth and began to study a mate asked me to give Rugby a go. And before you ask, NOT LEAGUE.. ~laughs~I fell in love with rugby. I love AFL, but it was now very much the old girlfriend. For 2-3 of those years only, while in a Z grade team I played loose head prop or hooker. No other bastard wanted too. In those days I was about 92-94kg, so I was just heavy enough.Man!! can I still feel it in my shoulders and neck.. Such great fun though.

After all, I am constantly feeling up a 24 year old ;) My knees beg to differ, but I do believe that's more abuse than age. And, DAMN, I've earnt those aches ;) No sorrows, no regrets, no second chances. You can get through life unscarred or you can get through life AWESOME. Guess which *I* chose? ;)

coodi is coming through!! i'm like a kelpie with a tennis ball, i see the ball and i get it ..that means i spend a lot of time on the floor, and i've got the court burns on my body to prove it. A smart person would change their style of play to avoid feeling like a cripple after the game, but that's what the pub is for on the way home ... a few beers to numb the pain.
