"Ideal", does it trully exist?

July 22 2012

I remember reading about research into physical attraction back in the early eighties into what was the most pleasing female appearance (obviously they must have been male researchers). They did extensive surveys on what was consiered to be the most pleasing facial features, blended them using computer graphics (yeah, geeky male researchers) and they came to the conclusion that Jacklyn Smith, of "Charlie's Angels" fame was the most universally accepted version of attractive. She is, without doubt, a beautiful woman but I can't remember ever hearing a single man refer to her as his ideal. Farrah Fawcett got far more attention than Jacklyn. Farrah never did it for me, her teeth were too big and her tits were too small. Other men like Pia Zadora but I thought she was too much the waif. A lot of men liked Bo Derek but it seemed to me that her shoulders were too broad for her hips. A lot of men loved Raquel Welsh but, ... yeah, okay, I can see that. My point is, does any body trully believe there is a universal ideal or can we accept that taste is unique to each individual? Do we need to belittle other people for not reflecting our own ideals or can we enjoy the diversity that each person has to offer?

I'm all for diversity, there is something attractive about most people, I can honestly say I have only met one female who I thought wasjust so ugly I couldn't even stand looking at her.Another point is that attractiveness is not just their facial features, thereis voice, how they carry themselves and all importantly (for me) their personality, but that's not quite what your getting at here.Cheers Felonius

She's definitely my ideal woman. Does anyone remember the scene in Myra Breckinridge with a very young Farrah Fawcett. If not get on youtube now. I think ideal is probably subjective according to an individuals life experiences and early influences.

Some idiotic committee decided it was a great idea to combine the facial images of thousands of local residents who submitted their photos at Cockburn Gateway shopping centre, south of Perth. They used the combined images of these people to produce a weird inbred looking boy, and and equally creepy middle aged woman. They then used these images as the mast heads on top of the building. We are too scared to shop there now.If they wanted to create some weird scientific respresentation of the 'average' person, they succeeded. Using those images as 'average', we're now content we are fucking stunning specimens of the human race :P But, maybe that's just because we're being compared to residents of Cockburn

people belittle something that doesn't suit them because they don't have it in them to accept that which doesn't conform to their ideals. Diversity its what makes us. I don't have a face pic up because we tend to judge on the pic rather than the communication of messages.I would rather be judged on who i am not what i look like & vic versa. As felonius says this may be a little off the track however worth saying

Ok, so we're not going to comment here on what the perfect look is, whether it be blond or brunette, petite or curvy etc, but there is some quite extensive research into attraction that is quite amusing, and which applies to both sexes. In terms of facial features, those with more symmetrical features will be considered more attractive than those with less symmetrical faces. Eg, a picture of one half of your face mirror imaged to make a whole face, will nearly always be rated more attractive by a random sample of strangers than a true picture of your face. This has been validated in other ways also - models for example generally have much more symmetrical faces than the average person. This is all at a very minute level - not something we consciously perceive. The theory is that in terms of evolution over tens of thousands of years, symmetry has become an attractive feature, as it is an indicator of a fractionally lower chance of disadvantageous genetic mutations in one's DNA. So there you go, today's interesting scientific fact! LOL.

She's sorta right you often hear about those guys who go to mistresses or 'working girls' to get their real kinks taken care of, and it doesn't bother them because they wouldn't dream of their wives doing something so 'nasty'. then theres the show "snog, marry, avoid..." when the chicks are tarty little numbers they might get a snog (TV term for FUCK) then they transform them and viola... everyone wants to marry them.   Yep, fully agree with Meeka... different looks for different purposes.

We both appreciate a beautiful girl no matter what race. Whenever were out and around, we point out pretty girls to each other and usually our taste is similar. No matter if she is Caucasion; Asian' Indian' there are beautiful girls everywhere in Sydney . Seeing these beautifull girls embracing our culture is fantastic...Strangely enough' I dont share Mrs JJs taste in males... not because Im jealous' but I sometimes look at the male she does a woot woot for and think " seriously.. ? But thats what makes the world go round..As far as celeb's are concerned' there are so many... The girl in ' Slumdog Millionaire' is absolutely stunning.. I would watch it over again just to perve...

I read one study that presented a number of pictures of men to women for them to rate in attractiveness. The highest rated picture was actually one of themselves that had been photoshopped to look male. Which raises the question, are we actually looking for similarity to ourselves?

Quoting 'rockercouple80' Some idiotic committee decided it was a great idea to combine the facial images of thousands of local residents who submitted their photos at Cockburn Gateway shopping centre... I couldn't go there because every time I did I would be the idiot giggling at the place called "Cockburn Gateway." That is THE best and most horrible nickname I've ever heard for a woman with chlamydia. My life's ambition is to now use it in that context until somebody uploads it to the Urban Dictionary.Clearly there is no universal ideal, but I think most guys have a personal 'type/s'. I'm very aware of mine. Doesn't mean I'm only attracted to that type, nor that I'll necessarily end up with someone who fits that description - it only means that if they do, they have an immediate leg up in getting my attention (and hopefully both, resting on my shoulders. Cough.)It reminds me of an even tricksier distinction though: the difference between 'hot' and 'beautiful'.

because men are so visual their mating strategy and their response to to women will often depend on whether or not their sexual attraction switch is in the upright positionx Hugs H

Quoting 'Otori'I read one study that presented a number of pictures of men to women for them to rate in attractiveness. The highest rated picture was actually one of themselves that had been photoshopped to look male. Which raises the question, are we actually looking for similarity to ourselves? Each participant was photographed seperately and each photo was shown to a survey group to ascertain how attractive each person was on a scale of one to ten. The scores for each pic was averaged out to give a final rating. When the scores were in, it was ascertained that each partner was within one point of the other, eights with sevens, eights or nines for example. The conclusion was that we pair off with partners of roughly equivalent looks to our own.   Don't know what happened between Jennylee and I because she's fucking gorgeous.
