ISP - Country location on your profile?

January 24 2010

Is it just me or are you sick to death of all these stupid fake overseas profiles, with mandatory clichéd riddled hard luck stories, that seem to flood this site?   Do you think it is a good idea to have a small ISP location box on peoples profiles, with a little flag or something, so we can see and avoid fake profiles from Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe?   I'd love to hear everyones opinion on this.

and i think that when it comes to these people....we should be allowed to name and shame them.Make sure you report any you come across...even if its only a suspicion.

    1. Ever heard of IP spoofing? Do you really think the bigger scam operators really log in from their actual IP addresses? I would think obviously overseas IP addresses are picked up by the site already and those that aren't spoof Australian IPs.2. How frickin intrusive is having your IP address on show? Some people have shared IP's across certain ISPs but if we see a guy and a girl with the same IP I can well imagine a whole barrage of people assuming the girl is a fake when she's only guilty of using the same ISP as other people.3. I am often interstate or overseas. If someone looks at my profile and I happen to be overseas, does that mean people will assume I'm some Nigerian scammer?IP addresses are largely just numbers for most people. For others, it's an opportunity to do some seriously f^&%ed up stuff. Other than that, unless you want to spend time educating every RHP user about what an IP address is and what they mean, I think it's open to all sorts of misinformation and speculation.I'll pass on that one.

If by now you can't pick the scam profiles, hell you deserve to get screwed!  Seriously, how hard is it to pick, normally they don't have a photo, or if they do, it is one that has been around on different profiles.  Then there is the wording of the profile, complete with terrible grammar.  But I do have the failsafe, if I receive a flirst etc from ANYONE under 35 that I don't know (as in seen in here or in chat), then I know it is a scam and just ignore it.  Lets face it, why else would someone under 35 contact me, christ look at my profile lol  The only ones who get scammed I think are those that are insecure enough to actually think this young 20 odd stunning would actually contact them in the first place.

Mooka, I'm going to need to start getting you to screen my flirts.  I always hand over my IM addy... they've never asked for cc details... but if it gives me a chance with a 20-something hottie it's here and ready.    I play lotto too.  You gotta be in it to win it.

ISP and country location gives you nothing.  I travel lots - this week I'm in Brisbane, next week home week after Seattle, week after that Redmond... get the picture... am I a scammer? No.   Not only that as playfulminx said it is relativiely easy to falsify those details - ever heard of an anonymous proxy - I use them all the time to hide myself when I'm investigating stuff I need to for my field of work.   Forging an IP is a little harder for a websurfing, but not impossible for even a mid level person.   Long story short that info gives you nothing at all.  Nope - like Mooka I know a scammer now... like him anyone under teh age of 25 that sends me a flirt is a scammer... I've talked to a few thinking that maybe... just maybe they might be interested in this ole fart, but ALWAYS they've been a scammer... :-)   Not only that - some people use static IP's... they can be easily traced back to their home address with the right info... so I most definitely don't want my IP listed... it gives YOU nothing.. it gives OTHERS who might be lurking more info... and I don't want that.   I've proven in the past to one other individual in the forums just how easy it is to find info about you that you don't want found... so let's not give the creeps any MORE info than they need. :-)   Jean_Girard - I'll send all the young gals flirts your way mate - maybe you will strike rich ;-)   Wayne

but I thought that the IP address which would show up on anything like RHP would be the one where you first created your account, but obviously I am wrong and it is the address where you happen to be at the time.
