I remember when....

September 07 2010

i had ever first started chatting online. The good old a/s/l? question was always being asked before profiles were even set up. and for those that dont know wat a/s/l is, it is age/sex/location lmao!ahhh the good old days when there wasnt really any camming let alone any type of video recording! just the goold old fashioned chatroom! i always had the thought of making an open advertisement like they did back then. an example is of ppl going "hi im a 22/f/sydney looking to chat! instant message me if your interested' and these ppl would then get inundated with msgs. and then there were the ones who made it interesting in some way saying "if your horny type 696969". ahhhhhh the laffs that were around back then....or is it PMSL? :)i guess it really wouldnt work in today's chatrooms......... for ppl would rebut with yes yes we r in an adult site chatroom so what do u expect?and then i thought to have like an open advertisement like "hii i will b in so and so hotel and this time in room number ....... if your interested just rock up" and i just wonder who would actually show?sorry just a random rambling lol.........its like you'd have to put it as an event for that but then it would take about a day to be posted and then your over it lol!

That's why we need RHP business cards. Jeese. Motel? Why didnt you call BubbaJ?? :p I remember when a chat room was something done with mIRC. We used to play games like ... Q&A... those of us with the faster 14kb modems and more dial up bandwidth.. had an unfair advantage. :P Hugs Stalky

mIRC was awesome fun. I had a running head start into the internet when i was 10/11 so ive seen and been able to grow up around all kinda of neat stuff online. A lot of it has died which is sad to see, and with the internet no longer being a big scary place, more people are jumping online. I still think there should be an 'Internet Licence' or something similar.Generation Y. Those currently in high school. These are the same kids that will grow up to doom the internet. GET THEM AWAY FROM THE COMPUTERS NOW! I like my internet :<

i first used mirc back in 1996. looooong time ago now, but the old a/s/l was always the first thing asked. sounds were king, /me was very amusing and being an op in a large channel was king. started off with a 14400 modem and still remember my awe at a 56k modem. and it also depended on what network you used. there was the good networks, the ordinary, the huge and the mundane. ended up on aussie based ones as americans used to annoy me a little too much heh. icq was the first instant messenger of real note and i was one of the few that had a 5 digit icq number. that used to be something that impressed people lmao. now i sound like a techno geek lol. far too long online thats for sure but as much as things change they always stay the same.

Funny thing is, I still rely on IRC to chat with buddies when I'm overseas because it's simple and convenient. I started using the mIRC client back in '95 and when I wasn't using it, I was just going geeky Unix IRC style at uni. That was when I had the beast 28.8Kbps modem (still use that too for faxing to this day!) and would frequent 4 particular chatrooms at once. Now THAT was chatting! Before then of course there were the old BBS'es of which I frequented the Active BBS for its chatroom. They've actually kept it alive and well on the internet and those who had an account on Active can still telnet into it now and use it just like it was back in the day. Quite funny the things that one types when they're a little teenager.Ah, the glory days of electronic communications. Thanks for bringing back some good memories Bubba. :)

Icq was great, I had a low number too... Pity that they killed it with the updates, I remember friends frantically getting others to send them the ICQ 98b version, IIRC everything after that was horrible (though icq java client on a DEC Alpha wasn't exactly super). I installed a fan in the top of my modem cause it'd overheat if you keep it going hard for a long time, lol. Have to go find my old icq number and see what eBay says it'll go for, I think it was a 5 digit one too.

Publicly available ICQ numbers started at 100,000. Developpers and friends of, were given 5 digit numbers. There is one for sale on eBay right now for $850.Our number is 154xxx. Haven't logged in for years.
