Hepatitis B Prevention

July 05 2022

After my regular sexual health screening, my Dr talked to me about getting the Hepatitis B vaccine as prevention is greater than cure. She's aware of my lifestyle and as an openly gay woman doctor she's pretty good to chat all things about sexy times. I have not been exposed nor have I contracted sti but I am just curious have others in this lifestyle opted for Hepatitis B vaccine. I always practice safe sex so I am limiting my exposure but I don't wear dental dams and if tasty quite happily lick suck and swallow up all the deliciousness 😜 Looking for people whom have some advice from their experiences. Thanking you in advance x

Yes. Is a mandatory requirement for my profession. My children all have theirs also. Fairly sure they were done at very young ages and then boosters when we were expats in remote locations OS. Thought it was fairly standard tbh. Never thought about it as a "lifestyle" related vaccine.

Definitely a good idea. Hepatitis B is not curable, can become chronic and lead to liver failure, and increases risk of liver cancer.

In those famous words, do yourself a favour. I contracted Hep B in the 70's, the Red Cross will never take my blood. I'm lucky that I was younger and changed my lifestyle so I have no after effects.

I’d be asking about HPV vaccine Gardasil for anyone in the lifestyle. Prevents all sorts of HPV related cancers, primarily for cervical but also oral, anal, vaginal, vulvar, penile. And prevents genital warts (got your attention now. ha ha). I think recommendations vary by age. I’d never thought of Hep B because it was required for work.

Thanks for bringing this up. 🥰 The whole discussion of screening and being STI proactive is rarely discussed, even here on RHP. I’m getting by 4th CoVid shot soon and will ask about Hep B booster as well. 😎

Thanks for this thread, we'd not considered new vaccinations to prevent STIs, since we entered the lifestyle last year. But after some research we'll probably get Help A, B & HPV Much appreciated ♥️ - Alex
