Has anyone ever posted a comment they wished they hadn't?

April 27 2010

Have anyone ever had one of those moments where you have commented without first thinking your response through, then wished you come somehow remove it? Sites like You Tube allow you to remove something should you wish to.

Good point, loveparade2010. A comment delete option would represent a significant step-forward in the day-to-day operations of the forum. That and a censor that wasn't laughable ineffective.

Having never posted a comment before, I don't really know - I guess I'll see if terrible things happen after I post this one - but isn't that what forums are for - to have a conversation to refine your own thinking and get other people's perspectives? I guess it's different if you say something offensive or hurtful, but if it's just a matter of not being sure of what you think at first, I think it's fine to post and then re-state your view after the forum explores the topic.

Not_Brad, nice first post. I think you hit the nail on the head! And not that I've posted many comments in these forums, but I am an avid, interested reader of them. What I find to be one of the nicest parts is that most of the people are very supportive and friendly... and sometimes just downright hilarious! Insatiable xx

I have regretted comments I have made...not because I dont believe what I have written...but because some here can't read and comprehend...and accept another perspective or opinion...and jump on the abuse bandwagon. And Not_Brad...lovely thought....coming back and fixing...but it doesnt work...noone bothers to read any apologies...they are too busy flogging their horses...champing at the bit...to get their next bit of vitriol laden dross out there. And reporting oneself to rhp does NOTHING.I reported myself TWICE for abuse on the FYI post...and emailed to please have it removed...as others could abuse me...yet none of my posts would make it thru.Nope..they didnt remove it...until someone else came along...DEFENDING me....and it was removed that day.As always...this is just my very frustrated opinion. And im gonna make a copy of this...coz I really doubt it will make it thru.BJxxx

I'm a thorough Libra .... I don't often think before I speak... but I have been known to change my mind.. or maybe I've been persuaded to change it.. either way... the difficulty I have with forums is that we treat it like a conversation... all ephemeral... gone with a wisp of breathe... yet it is very permanent. That's the harrowing thing about this media format. I might say something today... realise how silly I have been and change my mind about something... but here in black and white... bold or italic... whatever... a fragment of time captured for all eternity.. well.. maybe not for that long.... but none the less... a person should be able to delete their contributions if they wish to. I think a bigger issue is the general public access to this forum. That fact stifles candid comment. Hugs Stalky
