Geting to know...but what?

How useful is to say we like to know the PPL first? Nearly everybody likes to know others in some way but is there a common meaning to what exactly it means? Considering most PPL will have some past exp won't it be more meaningful to say what you like to know or say you don't play on first meet or on an average you need X hours of chat followed by Y number of meetings before you make up your mind or just say nothing...lol
