Feminists .. the root of all evil ??

Opinion pieces which pigeonhole feminists as hateful. The women's rights movement started because there was genuine inequality. Even in the early 70s women weren't allowed to drink in pubs with the men in Australia. It was called the Women's Liberation movement, and it is the reason that I and other women are sexually and socially free in our modern society. I am a feminist and I am not a hater. All the other feminists I know are not haters either, but there are a slew of women hating websites out there. Probably where this one originated. It irks me that many women feel that they cannot label themselves as feminists because they think it's a dirty word, or they think it describes a man hating mentality. Well it doesn't - feminism is about equality and fairness. As a liberated feminist I love men, the thoughtful, kind ones anyway, and I only hate bigotry and ignorance, although I have tolerance for those who are only ignorant through lack of opportunities to experience other alternatives. Feminism and other liberation movements (gay rights, race etc) will continue to necessary in our society until discrimination is fully erased. With glass ceilings and pay inequality still in existence, as well as brainwashing in the media of our young girls there is still a need for women and men to label themselves as feminists. As for rape hysteria, that's probably the most offensive paragraph I've read in ages given the situation in India and the recent outrage in the US over the boys who fucked with that poor drunk girl at the party, and how it's supposedly ruined their lives. Anyway I am the thinking man's slut, I am educated, intelligent, motivated, socially engaged and completely sexually liberated. And I am a proud feminist. I am not alone, and I know many wonderful men who hold the same values.

I love your reply, but I also noticed that the OP's copied letter is to "Hateful Feminists"! There is nothing wrong with being a Feminist at all...all power to you..but as you also stated on your profile you have the handful (as you do with any group) that is more vocal and much more nastier..I guess that is why they get more attention? . What do you call a female that calls another females names because she went against this imaginary "Sisterhood" in here? Those are the ones I can't stand...When they attack they attack another womans sexuality and always bring it back to "He must have a big cock for you to go against the "Sisterhood"! I am sure the good Feminists (I hate the words good/bad..but just saying this to make a point) are not like that at all! , As for the rape part...I understood where the Author was coming from! Do you know how many women are making false claims of rape each day in the World? How many men are doing time over a girl screaming rape after a session which was consented between both adults? Do you know how many men are raped a day and end up with horrific injuries by women? No, because noone fights for these people or against them (the wolf criers)...and that is sad! xFunlovingx

If a man is a good looking hunk, he gets away with it most times. Some ugly fucker in the workplace and he is in deep shit. Charming articulate hot men get a way with murder. Rape issues are not about sex at all, that is only about power. Just check out your average war zone where women loose all power and the stats go right up. As for men in prison for false rape, yes it does happen but in my experience(working in prisons) its very very rare. Same for women assaulting men that does happen but not often, or it goes like a lot of assaults unreported. Rape of men is usually by other men. Women have every right to be angry and so do men if they are not treated in a fair way, especially at work. I am glad the feminist movement has made it a better work place for my daughters, as has the work safe measures made it safer for men and women. A man can be a cave man and still control himself. The alpha dog does not have to howl at women when they walk past. Just a nod and a wink should do it. A guy does not have to grab my boobs in public, and that has happened to me a shit load of times , as much as I like my boobs grabbed I don’t fucking know that stranger in the street, nor do I appreciate my boss doing it. I love men, but I love myself and my desires to be who I am without someone thinking just because I love sex and am a sexual woman that it means ANY man can do to me as he pleases. I do not put men down so I hope I get the same respect, that’s no feminism that’s just being considerate.

Oh dear I am a man and I agree with Paradisespair oh and Tuscanred on this issue. Guys need to be a little more refined in how they gawk at women. Iam in total agreement for equal rights; but i am still waiting for the ladies to pinch me on the bottom in a bar and offer to buy me a drink. and stare at my bulge in my t ight Levi Jeans. I mean I Dolled myself up and bugger no sexual harrasment Dam. Its a strange that both these ladies are over forty I guess it takes women a lot longer to mature when it come to understanding the male.

Well said Mrs Paradise. Very well said. Cassandra J who said we want to be equal. That's ridiculous! Women are heaps better! Just joking. However all people are different with various capabilities and strengths and skills and each person should be judged based on that regardless of their sex. That is feminism ... They are not asking to be equal just that we get the same chances and opportunities as men without bias. Totally fair enough. :)

The person who wrote that comment is talking about the extremists. And some men like to play the victim. I understand it can be a bit confusing for men as they just don't understand strong women. I said some!! :D

Opportunities were not always there. It's thanks to strong women and feminists that you can even make that statement and say that you are happy just being a women. Seems you don't give those brave women in years gone by enough credit.

From the women I have spoken to and have known in high positions and posts, they all have said to me that the thing that really pulls them back most of the time is other women.Being intelligent strong and articulate women they generally handle with ease dick-head men who are sexist pigs in the work place. I'm hoping Meeka that you meant 'some' men in relation to understanding strong women in your last post :) I agree fully with your comment on how some men will play the victim, you will find generally in today's world that other men see them for what they really are.

Sexual harassment is unwanted conduct of a sexual nature. It can include one off occurrences. Whether the conduct is "unwanted" is determined by asking whether it was reasonably foreseeable that the "victim" would be hurt, offended, belittled, humiliated etc. For most men and women it is reasonably simple to predict what is and isn't acceptable conduct. For a person such as the author of the rant above, who seems to cling a little too tightly to prescribed gender roles and "feminist" conspiracy theories, I'm guessing its a bit more difficult and that's why he's so bitter.

The post, I simply can't get my head around it. Points made out of nothing supported by thin air. I googled the first sentence and found a page it is posted on. It's curious that while the page is titled Humanists United Against Feminists, it seems to be all about the unfair deal men cop rather than any sense of true equality.

My views on feminism are reasonably well known, and when I start writing about the subject (one of my favourites) I tend to go on for pages. I'm currently fairly hungover and have the mental faculties of a damp tea towel. For now I'll just say that feminists are some of the bravest and smartest people in the world, and my favourite kind. I very much consider myself one, and am proud of my beliefs.I realise the subject is trying to be provocative, but the whole "root of all evil" question is so beyond hyperbolic absurdity I don't know where to begin.

There was an amazingly insightful post recently on the feminist blog The News With Nipples. It was a critique of the use of the passive voice and victim-blaming techniques in the reporting of a recent gang rape in North-West Sydney.Do a Google search for "Warped reporting at Sydney Morning Herald and Daily Telegraph", and throw in "News With Nipples" if you can't find it.
