One of the few places in the world where you can, drive a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then traveling home, grab an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV

Mangos are not uniquely Australian are they? Didn't realise people associated Aussies with mangos. Shinasbabe, damper is what the bushmen, drivers and stockmen used to bake in the campfire. And it is bread not cake. I am sure you would have something similar in America. I remember 20 years ago a tourist asking me where they could get a meat pie floating in pea soup. I had absolutely no idea what the man was talking about. He seemed disappointed as this was a uniquely Australian dish he thought. Now I realise he wanted a meat pie with mushy peas. Doh!

He did it the traditional way by making the dough, wrapping it in foil then burying it in the embers of a camp fire. The end result was charcoal crust but beautifully fuffy bread on the inside.

any one particular food to be exclusively Australian. I eat what I like and I know that the food I do eat is available in multiple countries troughout the world so then what makes it uniquely Australian? Lamb? The Chinese and the Russians actually grow more sheep than Australia does. Steak? Texas cut or NewYork rib eye? Lamingtons? My grandmother used to make them in a different country when I was a kid as she did pavlova. Really...if we want to be true Australians should we all not be enjoying a juicy Skippy Steak?

...the body, mind and soul.A bottle of Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay, a large woolen blanked, a hillside overlooking the landscape as the sun sets...and the company of a beautiful Australian woman.Probably a good idea to bring along some fresh-picked grown in Australia fruits and berries...we might even eat some. Gives a whole new meaning to...bangers and mash.

My Grandad was a Bullock Driver and timber cutter. they ate Stews, corned beef, dampers, bicuits all cooked from a camp oven. Bread and butter puddings, rice puddings, home made bread.   My Nanna is 100 in 8 weeks and cooked her home made bread up until 5 years ago,i have her baking tins. Her house always smelt of yeast, and bread was always raising in the tin bread bowls. The smell was absolutely beautiful. Billie tea went well with all these, and you could smell her tea brewing too.   australians in those days ate bush turkeys, kangaroo and dear, wild figs and apples. Jams were made from blackberries and preserved in Fowler Vacola Ware.   That is aussie.

I was on a trip to NZ with some relos. I bought along a bottle of vegemite but no one else wanted to try it. When I left, I didn't want to be hassled at customs so tried to donate the vegemite to someone but there were no takers. It is really quite good. If you haven't tried it, spread thinly. After all, you have to get used to the taste. It tastes similar to Marmite (which I loved as a kid).As for Aussie Day, it was mangoes for me. I am buying them by the box so I can indulge myself until the season runs out. Those mexican ones you get in winter does not do it for me.I am sorry to say Freya, but I don't care who makes the vegemite, as long as it tastes good and safe to eat.

Estuarine saltwater crocodile burger, cooked on the barbie whilst discussing all things manly with other manly men. You get them in the shops all over the place here, and they're quite tasty! And beer. Followed by another beer. Old joke coming up: 'Get me a crocodile sandwich, and make it snappy!'
