Dog or Cat Person

October 09 2015

Are you either a Dog person, or a Cat person? If neither are to your liking, if you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be and why ? I'll go first.I'm a dog person. Currently have a 12 year old German Shepherd I rescued from a shelter when I got back from America. Beautiful dog, gentlest temperament even though he looks like a small bear ( as I get told by all who have seen him) Your turn.

Generally, All my life I have had both at the same time. A dog to be active with and take walking and to the dog park etc, and a cat for snuggles in the quiet times.Cant say I favour one more than the other though. If I could have any animal as a pet, it would be a penguin. Because I love watching them waddle around and I would train it to do the happy dance tap dance moves.

I can't live without animals. I have my cat sitting curled up against my leg atm, the dog is sleeping on the mat at the back door, 2 cockateils will start calling to the wild birds when the sun rises and my 2 mares - a couple of kilometres away - are probably enjoying the rain we've had after a few scorching days. Lol, apart from the male cockateil, all my animals are female. I find they are more loyal and protective and tuned in to my moods.

I always had cats until I developed asthma and a test showed that it was caused by the dander in cat fur : ( I love birds but don't like to see them stuck in cages. The birds in my garden are pretty tame, one comes up to the door if I leave it open and cheeps for something to eat. I have pink lawn flamingoes, I guess they are pretty much my "pets'!

If I had to choose it would be dogs as I find them more reactive and sociable, and I love taking them to the park and beach. I'm an animal person in every way though, currently have a huge huntsmen calling my living room home. Named him Harry.

But prefer dogs. I have a black & white pure Cardigan Welsh Corgi, the colouring is constantly confused with Border Collies and so because of the short legs people think he's a cross. When I inform them, they almost always say exactly "wow, I've never seen a black and white Corgi before". As I live alone I got him mainly as a companion and he is very much so, when he was a puppy I had a job where I could take him with me, so I was with him 24/7. Had him since 8 weeks and he's nearly 5 years old now. Reminds me, I have to start planning for his birthday!

I had a few dogs mostly golden retrievers over the years and my cat was part russian blue she lived for 18yrs. Once I seperated I couldnt keep my pets, was just part of of the total heartbreak of loosing everything. As much as I have the urge to want another pet I havent allowed myself too.

I've had dogs pretty much my whole life. Now I'm facing looming single life, and our pets will be living with the ex, I've decided I'm going to get myself a rescue cat. I'd love a t-Rex, but I don't think I could find a rental that would allow it on the lease.

I must be a crazy woman then as there was no way I was leaving my animals behind at the farm when I left. The border collie is a working dog and wouldn't herd for the ex and the cat is the best mouser I've ever owned. The horses would have ended up at the knackery as they wouldn't let him ride them. Definitely my 4 legged friends with attitude and we understand each other.

But I can't stand the shedding so I will only ever own ones that don't shed. I currently have a poodle x bishon. Completely neurotic he is. But I love him. He does make having sex awkward at times as he barks the house done if I get sexually excited. It's very embarrassing. But tie me up and flog me and he is quite ok with it

I am an animal person. Lucky enough to grow up on a property out bush so they were my best mates always and in that way have never really had a pet just a good animal friend. I was the kid that had to look after anything sad, sick or lost and my poor mum had to de-flea and decontaminate my room many many times from the animals I sneaked into my room. Currently have two cats but hopefully within a couple of years will be on my self sufficient property with my menagerie. Then I hope to open my doors as a mini petting zoo for those kids that do not have the opportunity to interact with animals. Top of my list for another furry friend right now though is a pygmy goat, had one called Rainbow when I was a kid and they are the most loving, playful, loyal and best mates that will crack you up every minute of the day.

Firstly the Cat and Dog debate. I'm so a cat person, I can't stand dogs, the slobbering, the jumping up, the yapping, barking and general annoyingness that owning a dog brings. I don't hate them, I could never hate an animal but I'm 100% a cat person Secondly the Pets I Own I own a beautiful tortoiseshell lady cat called Nora, 6 years old. I got her when she was a year old from a rescue after she had been dumped by some heartless person with a litter of day old kittens :( She is now desexed but does have really bad trust issues with people she doesn't know and she's terrified of strangers (men) which I cant help think is related to her bad early life experiences. However she has the most amazing personality and fits to me like a tee, although she is slightly over-attached which does make travelling difficult because I come home to a cat with seperation anxiety for 3 days straight :( But I love her regardless and I would never ever get rid of her. Ive even been through court with a body corporate to keep her at my old apartment when they wanted me to get rid of her which cost quiet a lot of $$$. But I won and I got to keep her at my 'no pets' apartment complex :D I also own a share in a racehorse but as I just pay the bills on her and she doesn't actually live on my property (stabled on the Gold Coast) I'm not sure if she counts as a pet or a hobby I put endless money into lol Ive had her since the start of the year and she's about a month off her first race start so I'm really looking forward watching her race as her full brother is a multipul race winner :D Her race name is Jazz Adele by Jet Spur for anyone interested in following her :) Taby xx

I like most animals (not keen on sharks, spiders, snakes, or anything that might kill or eat me.) Like both dogs and cats but have only ever had cats, only due to personal circumstances in not having the time or opportunity to own a dog, (can't take them to my work being on my own and would not like to leave a dog at home alone on its own), cats though will entertain themselves, and sleep most of the day anyway, and love me cause I feed them

I have two cockatiels whom I adore beyond reason. They're such different personalities but both are very loving and affectionate... as much as any dog or cat. I dislike cats in general... particularly because of the feral aspect and the damage they do to native wildlife. However, I have known and liked individual cats who have belonged to friends or family, and owned & loved one when I was a teenager. Never again though. I like dogs, and I'm looking forward to one day settling down and being in a position to have one again... a Bassett Hound would be wonderful.

She'll trial again in a few weeks and hopefully debut at the Gold Coast.

And yes, I know I know, people wash their hands, but animals and sex don't mix, in my opinion. And this is coming from a person who has had animals, dogs are amazing, I had rottweilers, but right now, nah not for me. Love dogs and their goofy ways. Taught my last dog to surf (just the small ripples into shore as Im not a surfer) and dive to retrieve the ball when I held it under water. She was a great jogging and walking companion. I could never do yoga at home because downward dog always ended up with face licks. Miss her a lot as she would push me along to be active. RIP Tessie I have an allergic reaction when around cats so tend to avoid them ... unfortunately being avoided is what cats seem to like as they seek me out .... when I start sneezing i usually find them under my chair or at my feet, or trying to jump up on my lap ... go figure! lol LG

The only reason I don't have a dog is my yard isn't fenced in. If I could have any animal as a pet it would be a black panther or black puma. So I have two cats, one which is best described as a miniature puma (in both looks and temperament). I saw a 10 week old black German Shepard pup that I just fell in love with. Other animals I'd love to have as a pet: A snake A tarantula A panda A polar bear An orangutan A white tiger
