Do Girls Rock?

June 24 2010

Australia now has its first female Prime Minister. Without going off on a political tangent.....do you think a Venus PM is going to change a previously Mars dominated arena? How will the ripple effect affect us all? very intrigued & curious

Quoting 'customer69' If she is successful in her endeavours, I would like to see fewer male tantrums and egos being stroked. The job at hand, is to be the PM, not a puppet or figure head, whose strings are pulled by the power base, behind the throne. If they clip her wings, she won't be able to take those important forward steps... so 'more subtle string pulling' is the order of the day?I wouldn't expect more change than having any other person with the same party factions backing them - the leader is just a figurehead for the party, and as we know, they can be toppled and replaced at any time.I think Julia has a style more likely to be able to sell policy better.

Unfortunatly its not a matter if we have a female or male prime minister...... we need a person with" BALLS " to make the hard decisions. Rudd committed political suicide when he went after Australia's golden egg.. but way of the mining industry. Times got though and it was time to rape a piliage to prop up his fuck ups !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoever we ger next has to have a spine first and make decisions for the people that US THE PEOPLE WANT !! Note. I certinly admired Maggy Thatcher...... now she had bals !!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Brad

But why the fuck does she have to try and be so blokey about it? I mean, fuck.. rule like a woman, not like a woman who wants to be treated like one of the boys. :p Hugs Stalky

Quoting 'wallace1978'I don't think the fact the PM sits down to piss is important. . Does she though? Stalky's onto something I think. I smell a rat... or a scrotum. . And if she's running the country who does all the baking and stuff at home? Her man? . Disgraceful....

Forgive the cynic in me but I'm thinking that this little overthrow has been planned for some time. And besides the fact that Rudd kept funding his good ideas with some monumentally bad ones, he is an incredibly arrogant man (have had dealings with him twice) and actually used the line "Don't u know who i am" to try to get a security guard to break the rules for his own purposes. He swears like a sailor and has no respect for the women he worked with, so it comes as little surprise his own party wanted him out.As for Gillard, well it is a man's domain in parliament and at the end of the day I don't think female politicians can let themselves become emotional or show weakness or else the media tears them down and says they can't cope with the job. I'm betting had Christine Nixon been a male she wouldn't have copped half the flack she did for going out to dinner.....

I think its great that Julia is PM - i think its a pity that it came by way of an internal spill and not by popular vote (more resounding). i think its great for young girls and women around the country and i hope it will have an impact on the male psyche and reinforce that women should be treated with universal equality. Intrigued&C....i dont know if the leadership of a woman will necessarily translate to a difference in government (i hope it does - but Thatcher was at least derived from woman). If today shows anything its that the people behind the show are the power and theres still lots of powerful men there - therefore her success will, i think be more determined by how the Australian population respond to her as prime minister - lets hope she can be all that Rudd promised to be and wasn't AND keep flappy ears Abbott out of the lodge!! 2b :)

labour sports minister kate ellis would be better in charge, she could do her policies in a ralph photoshoot. guaranteed to get the swinger voters. but if it came down to the crunch, i would bang julie bishop before julia gillard.

Cheers Brad how is it 'making a hard decision for the good of the country' to just do 'what the people want'? Anyone can do that, I'd rather a government that makes the tough decisions to give the people the best decisions for the country - popular or not. Governance for the good of the people, not governance by knee-jerk and opinion poll.

I dont think its the PM that runs the country. They are only the figure heads. Its big business and advice from Gov bodies that run the country. They are just the mouht pieces.

Quoting 'Vintagetatu'Personally I think she'd do a much better job as an extra on 'Kath n Kim' hehe She would need to have a sense of humour to do either job! Imagine stepping into the shoes of an enigma like her predecessor...I still wonder how someone that signs their name KRudd got in to office anyway. It was almost an omen? | Perhaps a small part as a walk on extra would suit her well? Humour does often stand out more clearly when it's antithesis is present on stage? | As to the original question, intrigued...these are very turbulent times and we have been in a crystal bubble here that has favoured our economy in the eyes of the world. Suffice it to say, they will be on her. Maybe would should have got Elle to step up...she is an Australian female icon and certainly a bit easier to the eyes.

Ha ha just like Rick Rollin. Funny. Yep the red headed clown is in charge. Change. I think not. Unfortunately she was already running the place. Kevie was off trying to big note himself on the world stage. He was toppled as we all started to realize this and cos we saw him as fake. Tony Abbott comes across as a real bloke. Not fake. They paniced. So they need someone who will tell it like it is. Not some rehearsed script. Well I think we are in for a ride. But they chose someone too close to the mess. What about Maxine McKew? Fab.

go on... who will be game to bag out a woman here.... and risk the wrath of the female race for it... ;-) Seriously though - I don't mind if our leader is male or female, I just wish they ran the country like a freaking business rather than a popularity contest... there is no long term plan to solve the issues that exist in our country. there is only a plan as far as the next election and thats it. Anyway - rant over :-) hugs Wayne x

Quoting 'weareupforit'I dont think its the PM that runs the country. They are only the figure heads. Its big business and advice from Gov bodies that run the country. They are just the mouht pieces. All K Rudd was a mouth piece, he did not decide on the mining tax...it was the players and controllers in the backrooms of the political arena. I don't think it matters male or female polly....but one thing I know about K Rudd he beat around the bush during interviews no straight answers....and the only one better at beat at not being straight up, or beating around the bush is Julia Gillard....dead set, she can answer any question without an answer. But we are emotional, women love the fact that a female is now in power, women across the land rejoice, policy does not matter or what they belive or stand for, just lets thank the heavens its female! yeah. And all let this country go to hell in a bucket, while the real power brokers pull the right strings for their satifaction.

Popularity contests. It's like a reality TV show. We need to change that. God most pollies are the car salesman type or more commonly now lawyer type. Can't really trust any of them. Hell we vote so many to serve us. At all levels. Do we really know them?? God I don't even know who my members are and I listen to the news. Can anyone make a difference. No. It's like that 80's Brittisht comedy "Yes Minister". " No I have no ambition to be PM. " Oh god we are run by Sir Humfrey. Lol. Fab. Sad but true.
