Depo Provera

August 23 2010

sex

For anyone considering going on those contraceptive injections...don't do it. I've been on them now since may. Around the same time I'd split up with my lover. So I thought perhaps that was the cause of my feeling of unhappiness, even though it generally takes me only a day or two to recover from the end of a relationship. but this one took me forever, I was moody, irrational, emotional, just general all round crazy bitch, which is so unlike me! i couldn't understand why i was so upset when the guy really was nothing special at the end of the day. Nice guy but massive issues, depression, intimacy etc, etc. Certainly nothing to get cut about. My libido had pretty much disappeared as well, not to mention constant spotting in my pants. it wasn't till end of july start of august when my libido came raging back strong as ever and i was feeling like my normal bubbly self. But then I got the injections again, and I hit rock bottom, though worst than ever...and it didn't click until last week that that was the cause of my discontent and my irrational behavior. It confused the hell out of me, i was unhappy, but there wasn't anything I should be unhappy about. I was ignoring my friends, and being snappy and bitchy to everyone, so unlike me at all.I told my best friend about it, she's a nurse who works at a mental hospital. She said that they use Depo Provera Injections on violent, aggressive mentally ill male sex offenders inorder to stop them sexually assaulting anyone under their care.Holy CRAP!And now I've got two months of this torture before the hormones wear off and I'm back to my normal self again.

When I was 14 I was placed in a high security girls home. That injection was given to us as we had no choice but to be "test dummies"...even virgins had to have them!! They were found back then to cause depression, mood swings and even suicide or suicidal thoughts. I was shocked to hear that it even made it on the market...but then again...I guess us girls in the home meant nothing to the Government or the Medical Institutions. They were warned not to put this on the market, but this fell on deaf ears. If you look back, I can't exactly remember when, but in the 80's it hit the papers again being blamed for "mental illnesses" and suicide. I am shocked and disgusted that it is still on the market! Casava, I was on the injection for over 13 years....not everyone suffers those side effects...The only ones I had were the stopping of my cycle and serious amount of weight gain . For me there was no effect on my emotional state nor my sex drive but I do sympathise with anyone who has worse side effects than myself...if it hadnt been for the weight gain I would still be on it...it really was my best friend. I also understand that for some it can take a couple of injections to settle out - I was a lucky one who didnt have any problems from the first injection but if it really does upset you that much definately speak to your health care professional for further advice. Well, look on the bright side... at least you're not pregnant. :p I mean serious.... did your doctor not monitor you for those potential side effects? I'd be knocking on his door and doing a Pauline Hanson. Hugs Stalky

Yup, that shit is naaassty! It was good of you to post this on here Casava to warn others.. I have also had 3 of these shots now, so for the past 9 months I have been feeling like, well......I'm in the early stages of labour??! Of course after the first one I asked the doc about the pain, and non stop bleeding, but he said "ohhh, after the first or second one your body will get used to them". Hmmm, not so lucky. Never again..I now work in a medical centre, & have a doc who actually explains what these chemicals are going to do to you 'before' he pumps it into you.. So after lots of research & advice from the Dr. & Nurses, they all advised against it.. Especially if you want to have more babies, DON"T have it!! It can also make it extreamly hard to fall pregnant, in some cases, if ever again. I am envious of those that can take it with no side effects, it is an awesome form of contraceptive, especially for those forgetfull girls like myself who constantly forgets to take that dam little pill!?.. a needle in the bum every 3 months, easy!

I've never suffered from pms. No mood swings, no food cravings, no psychotic bitch, no pain.I think these 6 months is making up for 20 years of being so even tempered when I get my period. Thankfully I haven't had any weight gain, probably because I'm always active with dance, rehearsals, training, and walking around all the time. Thanks stalky, that is a positive...my ex has a bad habit of getting all his women pregnant even when using condoms and birth control pills, and I didn't want to become another statistic of his. This guy is ridiculously fertile! I really don't want to have any stronger links to him than the ones I'm trying to cut off now.

I wish with all my heart that I could be one of those women who can use 'set and forget' contraception. Recently I was recommended to use an 'Implanon' by my doctor. Fantastic piece of technology put a little rod in your arm and come back in two years!!!! For six months I didn't know from one week to the next wether I would be bleeding or spotting or whatever. Mostly the bleeding was fairly light but it was more than just spots and went on for weeks. Combined with weird moods and frustration and quite variable libido. Yes I didn't get pregnant but then I wasn't really in a fit state to even have sex most of the time either!!!!!! So I sympathise with you Casava. Not all hormone treatments suit everyone and it really is trial and error.

Everybody should be warned about this stuff, it made me so angry i sat in my Doctor's waiting room demanding an explanation from him as i had just found out that he / the surgery would get paid for so many patients given this stuff lol i think i scared the hell out of him...all patients recieving this stuff also count for it to be given licence in this country..... Depo has been used in countries like Africa for years to keep the population down...They are also using a variant of this to sterilise male dog's ( not permanant, just as a contraceptive )

every woman is different! I was on deprovera for many years! no effects at all, happy as always, hot n horny as always, came off got pregnant within a month, it was a great for me! and better still no periods! the pill is 2 hormones! deprovera is 1 hormone! that tricks the body to think its pregnant, so there for ovulation doesnt happen!

Hi Booty your post is a timely warning. It is hard to watch your partner in agony on a daily basis because of the pain. She was taking it for scars on her ovaries

is bound to have pitfalls, I have never tried the Depo because my sister had huge issues with weight gain on it but like Lady i did try the implanon and it WAS NOT fun (same thing moods, libido, bleeding) YUCK!! got it pulled out early, also didnt do well on the mini pill after the birth of my third child (Zapped my sex drive to below zero)The current trend that the Dr's are pushing is the Merina (new type of hormone based IUD) i have heard mixed reports on it but my Gyno says it is the same hormone as the implanon and mini pill (just smaller dose and only delivered locally) so that was my key to say 'no thanks, PASS'So for me the pill has been the only option, thankfully due to some other issues I am having surgery in October which will eliminate the need for the use of anything wooohhooooo happy days.Aaahhhh the joys of womanhood, but i do seriously sympathize Cas (and all other women in the same situation) maybe one day a woman will develop an alternative, seems these bloody men cant get it right and why should they? it is women's business lol

I was on it, and couldn't wait till it was out of my system. I turned into a maniac. I was so moody to the point I couldn't click myself out of it. It was horrible enough to get off it and have my tubes tied ! I really felt like I could've killed someone.
