It's never caused me an issue be it health, sexual or social so I certainly wouldn't go under the knife to change it. And has been said, if that counts me out for some, so be it, their loss I say. OP you asked what the logic was versus a "cut" and "uncut " dick. There are several reasons why a penis may be circumcised as follows:- 1. Medical reasons - foreskin too tight etc2.Hygiene reasons - easier to clean and remove urine & smegma residue (smelly : google it)3.Aesthetics - many feel that a circumcised penis looks nicer4.Tradition - like father like son5.Religion- and for some a right of passage into adulthood. Both Mr D ,and his brother, were circumcised at birth, probably as a precaution against 1 & 2. They were not circumcised for 4 or 5. Neither of them can recall the procedure. Both of them can confirmthat they have not had any post circumcision adverse side effects at all. Neither have had any infections of the penis nor the urinary tract either. Our two boys were circumcised shortly after birth. They were not given a general anaesthetic (nor a local one) and we can confirm that they both slept naturally through the entire process (did not bat an eyelid). There were no post circumcision infections or nasty side effects. They experienced no pain. They are now young teenagersand during the past 16 odd years neither one of them have had any penis / bladder or urinary tract infections whatsoever. We have many male friends, some of whom are circumcised (at birth) and some of whom are not circumcised at all. We and they (the circumcised ones) can confirm that they too have never had any post circumcision side effects nor infections. They too don't know of anyone who has adverse side effects, post circumcision (at birth) , during their lifetime. On the flip side of the coin , a few of the uncircumcised males that we know (both adult and children) have had ongoing problems with their foreskins - for example some have been too tight, resulting in pain during and erection. Some have been unable to fully retract their foreskin, making urination difficult and messy. With others the foreskin has remained attached to the frenulum, again causing pain and problems. Many have experienced recurring infection of the glans and the penis, some have got UTI infections as result. A few have then had to be circumcised as older children or adult males - a much more painful and serious procedure. How many of you know any males, circumcised at birth, who have had adverse side effects (post circumcision) during their lifetimes? How many of you know males (both adult and children) who were not circumcised at birth and have had medical problems regarding tight foreskin, attached frenulum, ongoing infections and issues? How many of you know older male children / adult males that have had to have a circumcision later in life due to these problems? We put a lot of thought into the Pros and the Cons of circumcising / not circumcising our boys. We made an informed choice that it would be safer & better & less painful to circumcise them at birth, than to run the risk that they develop medical problems due to a foreskin later in life and then have to be circumcised at a time when it would be a lot more painful for them. We also agreed that if they were circumcised it would be a lot easier and more practical for them to keep clean and hygienic, thus preventing potential ongoing infections. That was the choice that we made as responsible parents and we are glad that we made that choice. Mr D is certainly thankful that his parents circumcised him at birth and we are certain that our boys too are thankful for our decision too. One of their school friends was circumcised a couple of years ago and the poor kid was in such pain. Our youngest told us that he is so happy that he was snipped at birth. At the end of the day it is a personal choice that each of us needs to make, based on our experience, values and preferences. It is certainly an emotive issue that causes many arguments and differing opinions. We as parents have to make difficult decisions and we believe that we have the right to make these difficult decisions for the sake of our children, with their best interests as the main priority.

Thank you for your long post but it is purely anecdotal. The prevailing medical opinion in this country is that it is an unnecessary procedure. However, as parents you get to choose, not the child. Yes of course it would decrease sensitivity of the glans, as the glans would be exposed to the elements as opposed to being ensconced within a moist (smegma coated ) foreskin all day. The skin of the glans would thicken / toughen up as a result. But if one was circumcised at birth, one would certainly not be aware of nor able to compare the reduced sensitivity, would one ? The OP asked about the logic (reasons ?) for male circumcision. Our 5 points were our take on the matter. Can you offer reasons why people circumcise their boy children ? PS: Neither us, nor our boys, were born in Australia. If you are not circumcised, I think it is very important to pull back foreskin and wash all the natural worn out lubricants that turn putrid (build up of smegma and bacteria) with soap and water taking extra care to clean the underside before having sex. I would not want to subject my partner to such a foul stench or possible irritation/infection especially nowdays when we take supplements and vitamins that seem to add to the odour. If practical I try to drink pineapple juice and have a glass of Vital greens before meeting to make sure the taste is OK as well. LOL

I really just wanted to have a discussion on why its such a deal breaker. As a parent you make the choice based on what you think is right at the time. Whether it's circumcision, baptism,enrolling him into a private school, or putting him on the role at the SCG. All these things are done to give them a better start, and perceived to be in their best interest. Its natural. Did hygiene play a role. Maybe many years ago, but in those times the world was still flat and we lived till about 36. But sure as hell you certainly wouldn't go near a crusty circumcised dick either. All males are born with it,its natural, its just at some point, someone said " hey what about this for an idea" I have 3 brothers. Three of us were done, one wasn't. Of the three of us that were done, the brother just younger than me had an awful time. Took too much, took too little i don't know. But he says it looks like a hollywood wife that's had too much botox. If its not your preference, that's ok. I'd like to just know why its a huge barrier / deal breaker, because for the most part it seems to just boil down to. I was uncut till about 5 weeks ago. I had to have a circumcision for a medical reason (don't worry nothing contagious). I'm pretty much all recovered now but haven't had a chance to use it with anyone yet so I guess I'll have to let you all know. The men in my generation tended to be circumsized, add to that my limited experience, I was used to seeing cut. So that was my preference, due to familiarity. Circumcision .... So why did it all start. If you check it out it looks like most circumcision began in parts of the world which had dry or arid conditions. Those who are known to have done it for thousands of years are the original inhabitants of Australia, and the middle east as well as parts of northern Africa. It was done for reasons of hygiene. If you can't wash under the foreskin regularly, then things are going to get nasty under there. It's that simple. Removing the foreskin stops infection (in those who can't or won't wash under there). These days it's done more out of tradition. I doubt that most couples who opt for it for their male children have any idea why it was done. The reason it was (and still is done) to female children is for very different reasons. In this case it involves removing the clit and the hood and is done with the idea that it stops promiscuity in young women by removing a prime source of pleasure for them. I'd take bets that it was a man who came up with that idea, folks. A lot of women have told me that they had their son(s) circumcised simply because their father was and they didn't want them to look different from him. Not the best reason for an unnecessary form of surgery to a week old baby but it's often how it is. Of course, some males require circumcision due to a foreskin which is too tight to retract. Without it retracting fully, it is prone to infection, difficulty in urination or to being very uncomfortable during sex, when it is naturally forced back and forth due to the motion of intercourse. Although I'm uncut, I've never had a problem with the foreskin. I think it's probably that I've done more than my fair share of wanking from age 10, possibly earlier. I can recall the first time my foreskin fully retracted. I was about 12 at the time. The foreskin stays retracted if I want it to but most of the time it does what it's designed to do... to protect the sensitive glans. Prior to his delivery we were sent a letter from our ob/gyn telling us they would not perform a circumcision,nor would they recommend someone. At that time, the stats in WA were 5%. That's 95% of the population of boys that will now have to fear rejection from women who "will only hook up with men who are cut" and live in a society where some believe they are so unclean their dicks are going to fall off.
