Do you really need to widen the divide between men and women? I'd be more interested in what makes a person competitive and keep gender out of it.

I believe it is not necessarily gender oriented, I have known some very competitive women and very competitive men by the same token some not so, invariably the other partner is opposite so it balances out but have known two competitive people and their household is interesting to say the least

Don't you Sarah? There is heaps of written material on the net and other places about the competitive nature between the sexes. I don't mean man against woman.. I"m talking woman/woman.. male/male. To this end, who .. do you think is more competitive for the natural resources they need to make their way in the world? To me, it is women. Women are very competitive and if you watch them in action say.. when an attractive man walks into a room .. the competitive nature between the fairer sex is all to easy to observe. For men, it may be in a more physical sense, a football game for instance, where male members of the team will playfully (but not completely) aim to be the physically more dominant (all harks back to our very animalistic basic tendencies I am sure..survival). I am sure there are much more succinct examples which highlight the 'competitive' streak each of the sexes manifests under differing conditions. Who though, do you think wins the toss as to who shows this competitive streak more completely and to which sex is it more important to be competitive for their continuation of their gender qualities. And for gods sake people, please, stop saying everytime I post.. 'is this a serious question'.. Lol, it's boring.

Their level of competitiveness is the same, but I think the WAY they compete is totally different.

Tell me more HT.. how do men show their competitive nature as opposed to females? What attributes does one gender show over another.. in terms of establishing competitive behaviour? I love to hear what people thinks make 'people'.. tick.

I do not think men are anymore competitive than women. I think we are all at the end of the day fairly competitive specially if it's something we are passionate about, but depending on the personality of a person we will compete with varying degrees.

Yeah but Sarah...it's so much fun to put people in boxes and then watch them claw their way out. It's a discussion for gods sake.. not a freaking mission statement yeesh.

I'm competitive at everything, not because I want to belittle anyone but because I demand the best from myself 24/7.

Quoting 'Torturedcliche' I'm competitive at everything, not because I want to belittle anyone but because I demand the best from myself 24/7. Actually, I can relate to that Tortured... I'm not a perfectionist but .. I do like to do my best. I am definitely competitive at things I like and do well.. I tend to shy away from things I don't, .. as I hate losing grrrh.

Quoting 'LittleRedEngine' They are just mostly covertly competitive..~looks for asbestos suit~ Yep, if we are generalising then I have to agree LRE. I find (in general) men, who are competitive, are more transparent about it and women not so much. (probably why I get along with guys - as friends - better than women usually).Having said that I think it comes down to personality type regardless of gender.I am very competitive in certain aspects of my life and others I couldn't give a hoot.

I just do my own thing and I really do not care what others think or what they may expect. I dont care for sports as I really dont care if I win or lose! Therefore team sports have never been my thing as I recognised this early in life and it is not fair on my team mates.
