"The Odd Angry Shot" also rates a mention. How about classic television. In the 70's, I was so impressed with "Boney" that I collected and read all of Arthur Upfield's novels about his Inspector Bonaparte. The novels are no longer in print because it was deemed that attitudes expressed towards indigenous Australians was not PC but as they were written in the first half of the 20th century and were an accurate representation of attitudes of the time. While many of his white characters were derogatory of blacks, Upfield himself had a genuine fondness and respect for Aboriginals. His black characters, while often being uneducated, as was the case in those times, they were never portrayed as stupid or foolish people. The television series itself was not without controversy. The actor chosen to play 'Boney' was a white man who was made to look black with often head to toe make up. Many of the central black characters, usually female characters, were similarly disguised whites. Despite this, the program was well made and popular. David Gulpilil, played several roles over the course of the series. He and the other Aboriginal actors involved worked closely with the show's producers to make sure that indigenous life in the 70's was accurately portrayed.

Can I cheat a little bit and go for Peter Jackson's early movies 'Bad Taste' and 'Braindead' !? Still adore 'Picnic At Hanging Rock' too.

I reckon when ever they showed skippy's hand it was one of those "Roo paw" bottle openers. And can one really whistle so loud, using a gum leaf? We used to try that as kids, it didn't work. :( Foxy

There's a budget independent Aussie movie coming out this year called Wyrmwood. From the trailers it looks like a mixture of Mad Max and a zombie apocalypse. Love Johnny Spit! "Aw your tryin to give me a verbal." Other favorites are They're A Weird Mob and Odd Angry Shot - Posted from rhpmobile
