Nev,To call someone, especially someone who is dark, a monkey is akin to calling them sub-human. Use to be a very familiar taunt in South Africa and in the USA. Lets just say an easier ways to commit suicide is to walk up to a group of African Americans and call them monkeys! It is right up there with the "N" word.Mooka

I actually referred to a co - worker recently as a wombat (meaning he was stubborn) he took it to mean i thought he was cute and cuddly oh well point missed i guess but does that make me racist?? i sure hope not.While i dont agree with this guys view of Obama being a monkey i dont find it racist. I did see the 7pm project and did not find the guy in anyway offensive but i also didnt find him all that articulate either I am guessing he called Obama a monkey in the first place because that is the best he could come up with.Anyway just my point of view next topic..............................

It is funny, when I lived in the USA, it amazed me that the African Americans quite often referred to each other by the "N" word, but god forbid anyone else calling them that.Of course, us poor white guys have nothing. Every other ethnic culture has it's taboo names you can't call them, but it seems we are open slather to whatever everyone else wants to call us. Personally, I think that sucks lol

Just got this email during the week...This is great. I have been wondering about why Whites are racist and no other race is......Proud to be WhiteMichael Richards makes his point.................Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point.This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points...Someone finally said it... How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'... and that's OK..But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink .... You call me a racist.You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day.You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day.You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.You have the NAACP. You have BET.... If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives, we'd be racists.We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that??A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know we'd be racists.There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US .. Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college.In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.I am proud.... But you call me a racist.Why is it that only whites can be racists??There is nothing improper about this e-mail.. Let's see which of you are proud enough to send it on. I sadly don't think many will. But I have Made an Observation.......about insensitivity and local xenophobia.....( checks Politically Correct Dictionary)Its Understood certain Labels, Names,Inferrances,Referances,Inflections....May Be deemed, viewed ,and appear, Offensive......I support broad social, political, and educational changeBut It is getting Seriously Out of Control... when.....'Manhole' should be referred to as a utility or maintenance hole, as is 'man-made' which should be called 'artificial' or 'synthetic'.Blackboards in school being renamed "Chalkboards" to avoid offending black peopleSome schools having a "holiday tree"Councils "banning" Christmas decorations, trees,celebrations to avoid offending Jews, Muslims, Pagans, and other religious/non-religious folk. (Quick Irony Reminder, the tree thing was stolen from the Pagans)The European Parliament is the one that got me tho.......they adopted a "Non-Gender Specific Policy". Rules were introduced in March 2009 to outlaw titles stating marital status such as 'Miss' and 'Mrs' so as not to cause offence. It also meant that 'Madame' and 'Mademoiselle', 'Frau' and 'Fraulein' and 'Senora' and 'Senorita' were banned.I mean whats Next Women are Women and Men arnt Men....Will they be........? doesn't make it not rascist. I don't think this is really the place to go into it in depth, and being a white female I really have no idea, but there is a certain amount of privilege that goes with being white, especially in mainly white societies, Australia, England, USA. It's easy for us (being the white majority) to say that "I didn't know that could be called a rascist term, so therefore it's not". However I would have thought that with the whole Andrew Symonds being called a monkey in India fiasco (boo hiss Cricket Australia and the BCCI) education may have been raised a bit with regards to that particular term and it's usage.
